This lesson looks at whether there were any winners or losers in the Korean War, it includes a GCSE question with sentence starters, as well as a model answer to evaluate. Students carry out a task reflecting on everything they have studied to work out winners and losers but can also use the fact sheet provided if they get stumped. The class can then have a vote using the voting slide and discuss results.

A lesson in a SOW intended for a three year GCSE looking at the AQA: America 1920 -1973. Students judge the roaring twenties and how far society and their views changed with the times. There is a choice of two different worksheets one which is slightly longer. A murder mystery lesson. This is aimed at getting students to work out facts and use evidence to work out the truth. The lesson was super engaging for both my top and bottom sets. Can be taught two ways either place the information around the rooms and students walk around and try and find it/ or place all the evidence into a pack (brown envelope, can place stickers on the envelope, students loved the little touches made it feel like a real CSI investigation). Students then work as a group trying to find out the story, this allows a competition element. The lesson ends with a write up of an account a writing frame is provided.

This lesson looks at women in the 1920’s and investigate how far women;s lives changed in the 1920s. Students investigate flappers, the anti-flirt club etc to evaluate the changes. There is a GCSE question to practice interpretations skills, there are sentence starters provided to help the those who struggle to start a question but the lesson include challenge tasks to stretch the top end as well.

I like to put all the info in a brown envelope and stick the case file sticker to really make it a bit cheesy. Students then complete GCSE questions which have writing frames to aid lower ability.
