If your children have been learning Grade 2 sight words and you’re wanting to assess how many words they have retained and can recognise more easily with confidence, then these fun worksheets are ideal. Consolidating all Dolch sight words for second Grade, these engaging activities have been designed around a Valentines theme. There are 3 different activities with 3 worksheets for each type so you can pick and choose to suit the needs of your learners. Activity 1 asks learners to turn a heart card over, read the word then find all of the same words on their worksheet and color them the same as the heart card. Be careful though as some words have been deliberately misspelled. Activity 2 asks learners to read the word in the heart then color all of the letter hearts that make up that word. Students then need to write their own sentence using that word. Activity 3 allows learners to read the sight words in context within a sentence in different hearts. The sight word is underlined. If it has been spelled correctly, students can color the heart. If the word underlined is misspelled then they must leave it blank. Each of the activities allows students to recognize, build, read and write about second grade sight words to improve their confidence and all important reading skills to help them become confident readers. These worksheets are in black and white with the exception of the heart cards. However, you could use colored heart shapes or wooden heart shapes with your own colored writing to suit your classroom environment should you wish. See an improvement in early reading skills as learners become more confident and show a readiness for progression to the next level of words. These would be great for literacy centers, early finishing tasks, challenge tasks, interventions, homeschooling and homework. There are 9 worksheets included in the download (pdf), 3 of each of the 3 designs to provide a familiarity of tasks that will also promote a greater degree of independent working.
