Terrible Example Survey

Terrible Example Survey

(6)
This survey shows how not to do it! A great lesson for students to see that even adults make very silly mistakes and a real confidence builder for them to note how they could do it better. This resource now includes a detailed lesson plan and Worksheet for making your own survey.

Using Keywords & Referencing

This little lesson was designed to encourage students to search using keywords and then reference information given. It also shows how keywords can be used to precis information. I hope it's useful.

How to design a Good Slide

How to design a Good Slide

(1)
I made the original worksheet about 3 years ago and staff keep on requesting copies of it. It's a very simple sheet to explain how to design a good quality PowerPoint Slide. I've added a PowerPoint presentation with the answers and a simplified lesson plan. I hope its helpful and please adapt as you wish.

BTEC Unit 2 Hardware and Software

(2)
This is a complete BTEC Unit 2 including the assignment and Scheme of Work. It has been used and moderated in the past. I hope it is useful. If you update it, please let me know and I will repost or link to the updated version. There is also a link to a complete lesson on OS, which could be used as part of the unit.
Design a Logo for the Olympics

Design a Logo for the Olympics

(5)
This little activity gets students to think about different audiences and how to make an appealing logo. It also allows students to look at the difference between Vector packages and bitmap packages. As an extension students could also animate the logo. (The activity can be done by hand as an alternative.)
Dealing with Complaints

Dealing with Complaints

(3)
This lesson shows students a very well written letter of complaint and then encourages them to roleplay how they would deal with such complaints. Originally made for BTEC Business this could also be used for writing letters of complaint in English or as a precursor to a scene in Drama.

This is a crossword for the technical terms my students forget. I hope it's useful. I&'ve also included a link to Eclipse Crossword, which is the free app I used to create it.

Disability Roleplay (Lesson 3 of 3)

(1)
This was a lesson to encourage students to think about different disabilities, their prejudices and how people with disabilities still achieve amazing things. I hope its useful.
Elasticities Problem Generator

Elasticities Problem Generator

(6)
This little Spreadsheet instantly generates problems and answers, so that students can work hard whilst you enjoy a few moments respite. The Spreadsheet formulae have been kept as simple as humanly possible. So once in a while it might try to divide by 0 or throw up ridiculous figures that are most unlikely to occur in real life. If it happens, just press F9 and you will get a new puzzle. Please let me know if there's any gremlins, you like it or if it could be extended in anyway.
Lego Olympics

Lego Olympics

(2)
We used the Lego Mindstorms Robots for this, but you could use any Turtle or robot to compete in an Olympics. Simply put, we got students from neighbouring Primary Schools to come in and compete for the honour of winning the Robo Olympics. It was a lot of fun and I hope the resource inspires you to do something...
Using Open Source Software

Using Open Source Software

(2)
This Word table introduces students to Open Source software and asks why schools are still prepared to pay for commercial software? It is useful for familiarising students and teachers to software types, what is available for free and what benefits a school gets from commercial software.
Comprehensive Lesson Plan

Comprehensive Lesson Plan

(6)
Due to popular demand, here is a copy of the 'comprehensive' lesson plan I used during my PGCE. It is a blank plan designed to be very comprehensive and it ensured that I covered as many of the standards as possible. With the template, each lesson took about 15 minutes to make. Of course feel free to take a Pick and Mix approach. I&'ve also included a link to my page on seating layouts for those who are interested, which includes a zipped set of WMF drawing files for use in Microsoft Office.
Using Word Clouds for SEN & as prompts

Using Word Clouds for SEN & as prompts

(1)
Word Clouds are a great way to share vocabulary without making an obvious writing frame. Students with SEN can access the vocabulary and other students will appreciate the design. Not only that, but words at different angles make it more interesting to read and encourage dyslexic students to turn words around to visualise letters appropriately. Also different fonts can be used for easy reading. I've shown an example, which can be used for planning a holiday in England. There are also visual prompts included too. The tool Wordle makes it easy to make your own. (Free Website)

This guide accompanies the first episode of the series with exercises for students to do, before, during and after watching the video. It also provides a timeline, so that you can split the video appropriately. (You will need a copy of the episode for this resource to be useful)
