I am a Head of Department (RE) in a large school. I teach KS3, KS4 and KS5. I have had additional responsibilities in improving progress and attainment in RE. I teach Health & Social Care and Life Skills. I have also taught BTEC Applied Law, Psychology and PSHE. Prior to teaching my background was in forensic psychology, mental health, learning disabilities and research/quality assurance.

BTEC HSC Tech award to be delivered to Y9s. Component 1 - Learning Aim A Human lifespan development. Physical growth and development in the infancy stage. This lesson focuses on the physical development in infancy. The lesson explores gross motor development and fine motor development. Activities are varied and many are student led. There is a game to explore the main development, this is a fun to engage studnets and to increase learning. Lessons have challenging elements. Perfect to teach as is, or can be adapted to suit.

A GCSE Lesson about ethics in psychological research. The lessons aims to teach students about the ethical guidelines all researchers must follow when conducting research. The two main activities are a research task (use of computers if possible) and a create your own study task. Students will also explore Zimbardo's study as an example of unethical research.

GCSE Psychology lesson for the Edexcel spec. This lesson explores key information about the study and breaks the study down in to manageable sections. Students also have the opportunity to complete the Buss-Perry Questionnaire (downloaded from the internet, but I have attached it so you don't have to search for it separately). The questionnaire allows students to activity learn and understand how psychologists complete research. This lesson was originally taught as two 50 minute lessons but can be adapted to teach in one lesson.

GCSE lessons on Bandura. These lessons introduce the study - its aims, hypothesis, methods and results. There is also an evaluation task that requires students to draw on previous learning. A variety of activities (e.g. word fill, discussion, sorting) and lots of opportunities for progress checking (e.g. true/false, post its). This lesson can be taught as two but condensed down in to one lesson if needed. These can follow on from lessons about Social Learning Theory (see my resources).

Two GCSE Psychology lessons on Social Learning Theory (however can be tweaked in to one lesson if needed). Introduces what SLT is focusing on the key definitions and the main assumptions of the theory. Links to aggression in line with the Edexcel GCSE Spec. Tasks include X Factor style presentations, brainstorming, group tasks, individual learning and tasks that apply learning. Two GCSE Psychology lessons to introduce the course. Lesson 1 is what is psychology? This lesson introduces the definition, the keys areas of study and how we perceive things differently. Explores why students want to study the topic with a team work activity. Lesson 2 is approaches in psychology. This lesson introduces the approaches in psychology. Team work and effective working is promoted in this lesson. These two lessons are perfect to introduce any GCSE Psychology topic. Could also be adapted for a brief A Level introduction lesson or a lesson to promote the subject.
