I like an active classroom where everyone is busy. If you stop in one day it will look like chaos, but it is a carefully orchestrated chaos that cleverly disguises all the learning that we are doing. I use a lot of activities -- and keep the kids moving.
Research says that if anyone sits for more than 15 minutes, their brain disengages and learning is not happening. So I design a lot of activities to get kids moving, talking, thinking and participating.

Corner Collaboration is a Kagan strategy also called 4 Corners where students work in their home group to solve problems and then at teacher signal, go to pre determined corners to compare answers with a new group and get a different perspective on solving problems.
In this activity, students will find 2 sides of special right triangles: both 45-45-90 right triangles and 30-60-90 right triangles. Students will use formulas to find those missing sides lengths. There are 4 different worksheets with 6 problems each. Each group will get a different version of the worksheet as identified by a musical symbol. I allow about 15-20 minutes for the students to complete (your class may need more) and then when the timer goes off, students go to the corner with the symbol matching their sheet. They can compare answers and discuss any errors.
When the timer goes off again, we meet as a group to discuss any difficult or confusing problems, and this gives me an idea to reteach or move on. Great for promoting discourse in the classroom.

In this activity, students will evaluate the given function with the given value. There are 7 problems on each sheet. Each group will get a different version of the worksheet as identified by a musical symbol. Students practice using the Pythagorean Theorem in this quick and easy Drag and Drop activity in Google Slides for Google Drive or Microsoft One Drive. Students have 16 diagrams of right triangles with a missing side and must find the answer on one of the other slides. Students then cut the slide from its position and paste it next to the problem.
The first time I used digital matching cards in the classroom, students took 2 days to complete all 16 pairs of cards, subsequent times they were much faster to understand the process. Included in the directions is the link to the activity in Google Slides, answer key, instructions on how to share with students and instructions on adding additional notes or instructions to students before sharing.
Students practice finding the Domain and Range of Quadratics in this quick and easy Drag and Drop activity in Google Slides for Google Drive or Microsoft One Drive. Students look at each graph and determine which of the pieces correctly identify the Domain and Range and either move the piece to the appropriate place with a mouse, cut and paste in position or use a touchscreen to drag.
On the accompanying Google Sheets (if you choose to use the link) Students can type in the letter of the range for each numbered equation and check if they are correct. I give my students the link to check when they have finished placing all the pieces. If their answer is correct, the space on the sheet will change color. If the answer is wrong, no change.
Links to both are included as well as an answer key and detailed instructions on how to upload and share with students.
Practice finding the solutions to linear equations in 2 different pairs of collaborative worksheets for students. Pairs of students complete different worksheets of 8 problems with the same solution. A/B asks students to solve the system where both equations are solved for a variable. C/D asks students to solve the system where only one of the equations is solved for a variable.
Also included are 6 different exit tickets to use to assess student understanding. . Great activity for students to check their work, and promote problem solving skills.
Use on one day for different levels of learners in the classroom or different days. You can also use as homework checks using one of the versions and follow up with the matching version the next day to have students check their homework answers. Also a great idea for sub work.
Answer keys for all are also included.
Included is 20 pairs of matching cards: half with a diagram of a circle with angles labeled with expressions and the other half is the angle measure. Students will identify the angles using angle theorems, write equations to solve for the measures of central angles.
This is a challenging activity for students who have mastered the theorems. Use matching cards as a warm up, exit card, small group activity or station activity. Additional ways to use matching cards are described in my free resource.
Students practice finding the missing side from right triangles using the Pythagorean Theorem in this matching activity, This mini bundle includes 2 different sets of 18 pairs of matching cards. In both sets one half the cards has a right triangle with indicated missing side and the other half of the cards includes the answers. One set has integer sides and answers, the other set uses radicals both in the sides and in most answers. Both of these sets are available individually:
Solving Right Triangles Using Pythagorean Theorem with Integers Matching Card Set .
Solving Right Triangles Using Pythagorean Theorem with Radicals Matching Card Set.
This is an excellent set to use in differentiating the activity for different levels of students in the classroom. Struggling learners can work with the integer set while more advanced students can work with the radical set.
You can use in a variety of ways. Cut apart and use for a single student or pair of students. You can laminate and use as a warm up on a daily basis. You can use to pair up students for other activities. You can also use these cards as a ticket in the door or ticket out the door.
Additional uses for these cards are explained in the directions or download my free resource.
This is a wonderful collaborative activity to practice solving systems of equations in word problem form. Groups will work together to read the problem and solve the system. Correct groups receive a piece of the 9 piece puzzle. When all 9 stations have been solved, groups will solve the additional system printed on the puzzle and finish the quest! Groups will solve 9 word problems and one written problem on the 9 piece puzzle helping to improve their math skills.
Additional differention strategies are included. Teacher can print the optional equations list by station to start struggling learners with equations to choose from. Or teacher can print the entire list of equations for the activity for students. This works great to get students to work at decoding word problems and talking about math.
Great analysis activity for students. Four problems on each page, 3 of which have the same answer. Student work to identify which problem does not fit with the others and to explain why. Good activity for use as a review, warm up or as part of an assessment.
Resource includes 12 different sheets: 3 pages each of 4 different levels of difficulty. The first level requires knowledge of theorem, Level two : two steps Level 3: Pythagorean Theorem Level 4: Pythagorean Theorem plus one step.
When I have used in the classroom, I demonstrate with one of the pages and double side the other two in a version for the students.
Students practice finding a specific term in an Arithmetic Sequence in this matching card activity. Included is 18 pairs of matching cards, half the cards have the first 4 terms of a sequence and the other half of the cards have a specific term for that sequence.
Great practice in looking at a sequence, finding the pattern and determining which terms matches.
Students practice solving absolute value equations with this activity. Students work with their home groups to help each other solve the equations, then when the timer goes off, move to their designated corner to collaborate with different students using this Kagan strategy.
When they have compared thier answers, corrected any problems, class debriefs and teachers uses the included exit ticket to check for understanding.
This is a cut and match activity for students to practice Absooute Value Inequalities.
Preparation includes copying and cutting the 3 piece puzzles, students work page and sorting the pieces into envelopes for groups of students. Students will solve the equations, then match to the solutions and graphs with their group.
For an extra challenge use the additional 2 puzzles which do not match to mix in the envelopes. Great activity to demonstrate understanding of multiple representations.
Students practice multiplying scientific notation in this group collaborative activity. Teacher passes out 4 different versions of the worksheet, students work to solve the problems getting help from their group. When the timer goes off, students meet in one of the four corners matching their worksheet to compare and correct their answers, discussing with a new group.
When finished students return to their home groups to debrief as a class. Included is the exit ticket I have used to assess understanding. Exit ticket given in 3 different versions, can use all the versions with different students or use on different days.
Students practice solving absolute value equations in this partner activity. Pairs of students work to complete 2 different versions of a worksheet. When partners solve their problems, they compare answers. If answers are the same, they move on and if different they compare steps to determine the error.
This works well for students of all levels, and includes are 2 sets of worksheets for partners a/b on one day and different partners c/d on another day. Also included is an exit ticket to check for understanding.
Students practice adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions in these 4 puzzles. Each puzzle highlights one of the operations. Puzzles are all a basic level, where the outside edges are bland. Each 16 piece puzzle is coded with a letter to easily check the solution on the included answer keys.
The puzzles create a 4 x 4 square which finishes at 9 inches.
You can use the puzzles on different days, at stations or even give cut pieces to students to put together at home.
Since the puzzles finish at a slightly larger square they will just fit construction paper and need to taped/glued together once the teacher has checked the solution. I find tape easier for students. Makes a wonderful display on your bulletin board.
I always use a lot of games and activities in the class. Sets of Matching Cards are very versatile because there are so many ways of using the different types of cards.
They can be used for a whole class activity or a group/partner activity and a quick assessment for an individual student. Using cards as an assessment is a quick way to tell me if I need to reteach or review certain concepts or the class is good to go. I am always finding new ways to use them and the kids enjoy the variety.
Students practice factoring quadratics and/or multiplying binomials in all 4 puzzles in this set. 2 of the puzzles have the leading coefficient at 1 and the other two puzzles have a leading coefficient greater than 1. There are 2 different levels of puzzles with answer keys included for all.
In the simpler level, the outside edges are blank, so if students are having difficulty, have them arrange the pieces so the blank sides are on the outside. In the more challenging level, the edges have additional problems/answers in the border to make solving a little more difficult.
You can use the puzzles on different days, at stations or give the struggling students the simpler variation while more advanced students get a challenge with level 2 puzzles.
Need a quick (or not so quick) activity for unexpected absences or for earlier finishers? Or something easy for those last few hectic days of school? Includes a word search with June words with a secret message, a number puzzle, a cut and paste puzzle and a Calendar page for June to plan for the month.
Set includes 4 different cut and paste puzzles which students cut apart and reassemble--matching one step equation on one side to a solution on another piece. Two different levels of puzzle included. The easy level has borders which are blank, while the more challenging level has several distracting equations/answers around the border edges.
Answer keys to all 4 puzzles included.
Students work in groups or with a partner to complete rectangular puzzle and glue or tape together. Great way for students to engage in conversation about solving and matching to answers.
Who doesn't love solving puzzles? Four cut and paste puzzles are included with 2 different levels of difficulty.
Students can match squares of integers with their solution or find the solution to square roots. The basic level for each puzzles has blank edges. In level 2 the puzzles have extra answers/problems on the border pieces so students have to work a little harder to complete the puzzle.
Note: these puzzles each contain 16 pieces and finish at 9 1/2 inches square, so students will need to tape/glue to scratch paper when the teacher has verified the solution is correct.
The answer keys are included.
