Full mark Othello example by expert examiner for AQA Spec B Paper 1A

I used a guillotine to split up the SPEED chain in order to encourage students to think about crafting better paragraphs. They then used treasury tags to connect them. I based my answer on the 2019 Othello extract for Spec B - tragedy although it could be used to model any extract-based answer. I then gave out the essay split into paragraphs. You may wish to alter for the ability of your students as this is highest Band 5 level. Once they had decided on the order of the essay they stuck it onto A3 and colour coded each AO. I hope you find this lesson useful.

"Romeo and Juliet" - Capulet and Juliet essay

Could be used as a model for a full-mark Pearson iGCSE coursework, or an A Level analysis coursework for another exam board. I would use this as a live walkthrough of of how to structure the essay, or take one paragraph and really closely break it down as to how it has been composed. I hope this helps anyone who is in need of a stretch and challenge exemplar; it could easily be adapted for a different group/ability. This is marked out of AO1, AO2 and AO4 with 10 marks for each component.

Hamlet Lesson 1 - AQA Crime A Level

Introduces students to the opening scene and encourages students to think about thematic ideas such as revenge/Heaven and Hell/death. You will need a copy of scene 1 (or the students’ texts) for this lesson and three versions of the play (you can choose - I used the Olivier, Branagh and Tennant).

Example Answer for Literature A Level - Desdemona

A blank (unnanoted) example answer to the question ** “Desdemona suffers a tragic end because she is a woman.” To what extent do you agree with this view? (25) ** I have also included a mark scheme at the bottom, which you can use with students. Would be useful for AQA Spec A and B. You could cut up and encourage students to order or highlight for the AO’s (shown at the bottom). Written at an accessible level by expert examiner.

Edexcel Literature "A Christmas Carol" - Example Annotations and Answer Section A

Attached is an example answer for your students to show how to respond to a real question for the “A Christmas Carol” extract question and then a full mark answer to analyse with the students. I videoed my process of annotating and then turning these into an answer - the process was: summary of whole extract, words and word groups, literary devices, sentence types and punctuation, summary of whole extract. (This task only requires AO2- language and structure). If you would like an example writing for Section B I would also be happy to add one or make a new resource.

Very useful for A Level or undergraduate literature. I hope you enjoy using this. You could potentially use it as a short project, assign a different literary genre and students make their own (good transition from A Level to HE)

A really useful revision lesson with all questions as well as a model Q4 scanned in for analysis. Works well for a middle ability group but could very easily be adapted up or down. There are sections in the lesson throughout for you to use a visualiser to broadcast either your own, or a student’s answer.

AQA A Level Paper 1 CLA Child Writing Question and Example Written by Examiner

This would form a useful mini-mock exam with lots of feedback and peer or self assessment. It is pertinent to look at more advanced child writing with a group as this can sometimes feature in an exam, rather than emergent writing from a younger child. I also include a knowledge organiser which I made to be used as a tablemat whilst completing essays of this nature which really helps with differentiation. If you have an observed lesson or need to set remote learning then this could be a good task for students moving into Year 2. I include a question, data sets © AQA and a full response with space for student assessment, as well as the mark scheme. You could then set up a following task which is similar on another example of child writing from this age group (10-11).

A brand new English Language iGCSE Predicted Paper

Self-explanatory, can be adapted for use in mainstream GCSE exam (for example AQA/Pearson Paper 2) with a slight tweaking of the questions. This is based on “A Passage to Africa” which has not yet featured in the main exams, only being used one in the reserve paper for Jan 2019. I hope this helps, over the next few days I plan to write the model answers (hopefully I have time!), the current price reflects the question paper alone.

These are straightforward to mark with any past Paper 1 or 2 mark scheme for AQA, however if you would like me to write you a bespoke mark scheme (perhaps if teaching for first time) or even some model answers at specific grades please feel free to email me at lsirr1986@gmail.com I am also happy to make resources and model answers on request on any A Level Language, Literature or Lit/Lang combined module as I teach all three and examine also. I would like to be able to support other teachers to deliver high quality materials at this challenging time.

Resource which shows firstly how to model annotation and then an example answer which covers how to structure an answer to Q3. This is on the Zola Budd/Mary Decker Edexcel Paper 2 for English Language, June 2020 (Edxecel) You could use this in a number of ways, cut and mix up the sentences to show how to build up paragraphs, as sentence starters or simply as a model answer to stick in books after the students have had a go.
