Builds challenging and highly-differentiated GCSE skills into learning about the event. I have used with HA Y7, Mixed Y9 both with excellent results. Brilliant for Paper 2 Edexcel or AQA adaption. I did this during a formal observation and it worked really well (Outstanding). Use the Word worksheet to introduce or as a first lesson, then follow with the pair/team sheets (print on A3). Uses competitive learning strategies to engage boys. Would make a good stand-alone lesson with war poetry or a war-based novel such as War Horse. Development: Introduce/compare with the Sainsbury's ad (youtube), The Farm 'All Together Now' (song and lyrics) or Paul McCartney "Pipes of Peace" video/song.

A lecture that I made to introduce students to DH Lawrence in a whole year-group lecture (Y9). I used Jake Bugg's 'Troubled Town' to start the lecture and showed photos from our local area then/now. Contains a wealth of resources, exam papers and lessons. Covers a full six/seven week introduction to Non-fiction and is aimed at the GCSE Reading AO's. Has been used to great success in my own classes.

For AQA Spec B, Route A - all six past questions for Part C (the two text question) together as well as 21 new questions which are excellent for rapid planning, homeworks etc. You could set one a fortnight for the entire year!

An excellent and detailed lesson based on two non-fiction texts. Includes full walkthrough and tips - designed to be used with a visualiser if possible although I have included a scan of my example for Q4.

I used a guillotine to split up the SPEED chain in order to encourage students to think about crafting better paragraphs. They then used treasury tags to connect them. I based my answer on the 2019 Othello extract for Spec B - tragedy although it could be used to model any extract-based answer. I then gave out the essay split into paragraphs. You may wish to alter for the ability of your students as this is highest Band 5 level. Once they had decided on the order of the essay they stuck it onto A3 and colour coded each AO. I hope you find this lesson useful.

Useful for students studying Atonement, Brighton Rock and Browning, Wilde and Crabbe. Has a further list of potential two-text questions which would be great to set as independent essays. I also include two excellent example answers: one which shows how to write on an unseen crime extract (The Mousetrap) and one which is a two-text question based on the crime poems and Atonement. It is worth noting that a play-script is likely to appear soon for the crime unseen component as it has been generally prose so far - this means it is useful for students to be aware of how to write about drama as an extract. Introduces students to the opening scene and encourages students to think about thematic ideas such as revenge/Heaven and Hell/death. You will need a copy of scene 1 (or the students’ texts) for this lesson and three versions of the play (you can choose - I used the Olivier, Branagh and Tennant).

A fully comprehensive guide to feminist theory. My students are using this as supported distance learning whilst our 6th Form is closed so I thought others may benefit from this too. This is a good bridging module from Y1 to Y2 also. It is based on, and develops, ideas from the critical anthology from AQA. It also includes the mark scheme and a student example verified at full marks by the exam board. It also has a reading list of both poetry and prose titles and a mark scheme for the NEA task. I hope you find it useful - you may wish to amend some sections where I discuss prior learning from Y1 as this refers to specific texts e.g. Othello

A blank (unnanoted) example answer to the question ** “Desdemona suffers a tragic end because she is a woman.” To what extent do you agree with this view? (25) ** I have also included a mark scheme at the bottom, which you can use with students. Would be useful for AQA Spec A and B. You could cut up and encourage students to order or highlight for the AO’s (shown at the bottom). Written at an accessible level by expert examiner.
