Chemistry teacher in a mainstream secondary school with an improving Science department. I aim to produce engaging resources that include practical work to prepare students for further studies in Science. I produce the occasional Biology and Physics resource where I need to ;)

Put together for AQA A Level Chemistry (new specification). Covers the reactions and mechanisms for addition-elimination reactions of acyl chlorides, acid anhydrides and amide. This lesson comes before the required practical making, and testing purity, of an organic solid.
Put together for AQA A Level Chemistry (new specification). Recaps understanding of some key words, dot cross diagrams and understanding of basicity. Covers preparation of aliphatic and aromatic amines (including mechanisms) and properties as required.
Put together for AQA A Level Chemistry (new specification). Covers how the structure of benzene is determines and the reactions that occurs on the benzene ring (with mechanisms) including Friedel-Crafts acylation. Tasks throughout to test and encourage thought. A differentiated task to assess listening and understanding and a differentiated plenary.
Introduction to the topic of equilibrium and what it means in terms of rate of a reaction. Links to two videos which my class found helpful to visualise equilibrium. Levelled tasks including an exam question.
Designed for low ability set with lots of SEN students. Includes pictures and activities. Use pre-made slides of different tissues to compare. Literacy task, AfL.
Designed for foundation class for new AQA 9-1 GCSE. This lesson follows on from the electrolysis required practical. Everything you need for the lesson is included here, rules for predicting products, AfL mini whiteboard activity and key word recap. Does not go into half equations at electrodes.
Designed for AQA trilogy specification (1-9). Discusses the importance of catalysts, why they may be used despite cost and evaluating the shape of catalysts.
For demoI use: Sulphuric acid + zinc, suphuric acid + zinc + copper turnings and sulphuric acid + zinc + copper sulphate for comparisons.
Water purification (Potable Water) for AQA 1-9. Power point and practical sheet. Students test the pH of 3 types of water (any available will do), and then evaporate off to see if any solid is left behind. The worksheet gives a full method plus space for students to record results and answer questions on the method (preparing for exams).
Revision lesson for the first unit of Biology in Y8 (AQA). Looks at key words and definitions, a quiz quiz trade activity and differentiated exam question to extend learning (scaffolding is given in the notes on the power point). Please read the notes on the power point for how key word activities and exam questions are intended to be used.
Whole lesson for Life Cycles Assessment part of the using resources unit. Designed for AQA 1-9, new specification. Starter, exam question, information to collect and comparison needs to be made to give an opinion in the style of a 6 mark question. Information and pictures included so that the students can collect the information that they think they will need to answer the question. I have also put together a work sheet with the question to answer, the mark scheme, space for their notes and space to fully answer the question. I will then review the answers before the next lesson and set targets for improvement.
Whole lesson with activities to encourage students to discuss ideas and use information to make decisions about the most appropriate choices for applications. Consideration of safety, cost, state etc.
I put this resource together to help my Y11’s to revise for the required practicals. It gives a basic outline of the method for each of the 6 Chemistry practicals in the new 9-1 Trilogy specification, along with the variables (where necessary), diagrams of equipment, some hints and tips and safety pointers that may be useful for the exams. I have also included links to other topics in the specification - there is no information on these but it gives students an indication of where these practicals may be linked to other topics. I have found this really useful to use alongside exam questions.
A guide for the common command words in Science. For each command word there is success criteria, key words/phrases to use and a worked example highlighting where the success criteria are used.
Revision lesson of RFM build around the summer 2018 exam question.
This lesson was put together for foundation tier students, but content applies to higher tier.
Discusses the command word, topic and key words of the questions then walks through the information that students need to answer the question with mini white board practice questions at each stage.
FInally use knowldge to answer the exam question as a class and then further question individually.
A revision lesson based around the 6 mark question on the development of the Earth’s atmosphere from the summer 2018 exam.
Looks at the question, command word and what it means, identifying the topic and key words etc.
Walks through the knowledge needed to answer the question, look at mark scheme and then attempt question again. FInish with extension to a different question.
I put this together as part of AQA A-Level revision for Y13. Summary of what metal-aqua ions are and they reactivity with NH3, NaOH and Na2CO3 (colour changes etc). I printed out the last slide and gave them a copy each for their notes.
Revision of the topics mitosis and meiosis. Brief teaching slides covering both with diagrams, multiple choice questions to check understanding (I use mini white boards for this). Exam questions with answers for independent work and a 6 mark question. Indented as revision for a middle ability set.
