Revision lesson aimed at a middle ability Y11 class with very little recall or hormones and hormonal control. Covers the main glands, their locations and what their role is as well as the control of blood sugar levels and diabetes. Some tasks are included to check understanding as you go. Exam questions could also be included as appropriate for your class. You will need a text book or other information source to support students with some tasks unless you expect them to have good recall of the topic.

Lesson for top set Y9 on Chemical catalysts. Includes reaction profiles and a look at the change in activation energy, the shape of the catalyst and evaluate command word exam question. 2 practicals are done in this lesson, but could be adapted to include just one, neither, or a practical of your choice. Document includes full method for titration and making crystals, plus results table for titration readings. Page two is an equipment list per pair. I put this together when I was looking for a different titration to do with my Y11 Chemistry class. This uses methyl orange as the indicator. They need to be accurate with the end point otherwise they will make coloured crystals. We extended this by looking at the crystals we made under the microscope and making observations. The class found it more engaging than the usual titration work. Easily links in to discussion on the choice of indicator and can be extended to include % yield.

Full lesson on acids and alkalis. Designed for lower ability KS4 but could easily be used for KS3. Includes starter, two short practical tasks, a differentiated task and differentiated plenary task. Could be split into two lessons or done as one depending on lesson length and class ability.

For the new AQA A Level Chemistry specification. Requires molymod kits. Looks at all the key words for this section of work. Encourages students to think about what makes a molecule chiral and come up with their own rules. This lesson has been very successful for me and the students have really engaged with the use of molymods. Print off the last slide to hand out and stick into notes.

Looks at the reactions and mechanism for reaction of aldehydes and ketone. Includes NaBH4 and KCN. Also covers chirality of products. Requires molymod kits.

A short practical activity for students to compare a carboxylic acid with hydrochloric acid. There is a starter included, full method and results table. My class particularly enjoyed the colour changes and extended this themselves in attempt to make a variety of colours.

I used this for my lower ability Y11 class (approx grades B/C). Introduces electrolysis of molten compounds then extends to solutions. Includes a practical activity and results table. Print either slide 14 or 15 for the class depending on ability. AfL plenary.

An introductory KS4 lesson to the difference between atoms, elements, compounds and mixtures as well as separation techniques. Starts with a quiz to assess knowledge/recall. Literacy task and scavenger hunt/market place activity with a blank table to complete for separation techniques. A good starting lesson before leading in to a practical lesson of some of the separation methods. You will need a text book or revision guide to go along with this for extra information.

Whole lesson covering how to calculate rates of reaction for the new AQA specification. Includes a recap of calculating mean and anomalous results. Calculating mean using numbers and graphs. Levelled task for students to pick tasks that suit their confidence level and an exam question included (this should be changed to suit the group).

Designed for the new (1-9) AQA specification. Covering reversible reactions, the energy changes associated with them and a practical. The practical sheet that goes along with this is designed to be used as a single sheet and encourages students to think about the practical in the same detail as is needed for the required practicals. The method is included along with space for their own notes and conclusions.
