DT – Focus: Structures/ Packaging Included: • Planning • Poster – Instructions for using a net • Worksheets • Target sheet (LO) The children investigate different types of familiar commercial packaging for cereal bars, finding out how they are made from disassembling them. They learn the parts of a net used to make a 3D shape and follow a set of instructions with a template to make a small package. They learn about layout for commercial uses and practise using different font sizes and styles. Children then design their own package specifically for cereal bars, list materials and equipment, illustrate the net they have used, and record their evaluation. These activities can be used as a follow up to DT – Food / Yummy Cereal Bars – or on their own.
