KS3 Coasts - Coast Management AND Hard & Soft Engineering

(0)
A lesson or double lesson for the topic of Coasts. Ideal for Years 7 to 9. Previously taught by myself in a 1hr lesson for high ability but over 2hrs to low ability. This lesson can be taught over either 1 or 2 hrs based on the ability of the class and how you choose to teach it. Pupils will be introduced to options around managing the coast (do nothing, hold the line etc) before producing an information table about 6 methods of engineering, using the information sheets provided (3 hard, 3 soft). The final activity will see the pupils write a letter, using their information table for guidance, stating why they will defend Marine Point in New Brighton (or you can substitute the image for this for any other built up coastal location depending on where your school is).
KS3 Development - Demographic Transition Model

KS3 Development - Demographic Transition Model

(0)
A lesson for the topic of Development. Ideal for years 7 to 9. Previously taught in a 1hr lesson. In this lesson, pupils will explore the five stages of the Demographic Transition Model. Spelling homework from the previous lesson in the series (Measuring development) is early in the presentation but optionally delete the slide if you have not taught it. The first part of this lesson introduces population pyramids and the DTM to the pupils. The first activity sees the pupils decide on suitable missing words in a Stages of the DTM worksheet, before the final activity where the pupils must decide where certain scenarios would place on the DTM. Easier to do as a numbers exercise, with the pupils sticking the sentences above their DTM's in their books.

A lesson for the topic of Deserts. Ideal for years 7 to 9. Previously taught in a 1hr lesson. BUILT AROUND AQA 1-9 GCSE. In this lesson, pupils will be looking at the development opportunities in the Western Desert in the U.S.A. Pupils complete a crossword before playing a game of 'Desert or not?', where they must write whether they believe the images on the board are taken in a Desert or not. The intention of this exercise is to prove that not all Deserts are 'deserted' if you will. The main activity see's the pupils complete a worksheet based around the four main development opportunities in the Western Desert.

KS3 Deserts - What is Antarctica?

(0)
A lesson for the topic of Deserts. Ideal for years 7 to 9. Previously taught in a 1hr lesson. Completely FREE. The lesson begins with a spelling test (from the homework in the Desertification lesson) before the pupils embark on filling in their information sheets from the information that is presented on the board. A level of teacher-led questioning is essential for this to be effective. The final activity see's the pupils write an Antarctic explorer diary entry, using their completed information sheets for guidance. Writing frame included on the presentation to help with this. This lesson works excellently as a 3-part series with 'Tourism in Antarctica' and 'The Antarctic Treaty'. Hope you enjoy the lesson and it is useful!
