Each presentation also includes stills from the movie with questions and an embedded countdown timer. Suitable for use with S1/2 ( Year 8/9). There is also a blank grid for pupils to sketch each angle and space to match and stick the purpose as well as a quiz to test pupils’ knowledge of each shot and their purpose.

This is an example essay based on a “character changes” type essay question which can easily be adjusted to fit a theme" style question, i.e the theme of Growing Up. Essay has excellent analysis with explicit links to the question made throughout. Suitable for N5/6 / GCSE. I have also included a detailed paragraph plan for a Theme style essay, focussed on the Theme of “Growing Up”.

This is a very useful and self explanatory resource which takes pupils through how to structure a Critical Essay including: Introductions ( with an example introduction), Topic Sentence Success Criteria, Main Body paragraph structure using an approach called “TIE” your evidence which I have created that encourages pupils to fully analyse and evaluate their quotations ( explained in PowerPoint). This is a short but fun and well presented unit to use at Christmas time with an S1/2 class. It includes a brainstorming activity, a 5 senses task, an example stanza to demonstrate rhyme scheme, and 3 beautiful printable 1st, 2nd and 3rd place certificates (printable PowerPoint slide).

This is a BUNDLE of resources which includes: a copy of George Orwell’s “A Hanging”, a table for pupils to complete once they have read and learned the essay. The table is partially filled and challenges pupils to both find evidence and provide explanations and analysis (includes guidance) for the most significant aspects of the text. This has been an invaluable resource for me when teaching this text. The PowerPoint takes pupils through the Critical Essay writing process with guidance on planning a response, to structuring paragraphs ( introduction and main body paragraphs) and using time connectives to allow their essay to flow. It also includes an exemplar paragraph for guidance.

This is a concise unit of work based on the dramatic adaptation of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, by Phillip Pullman. It is designed for use with S1/2. The unit has a focus on RUAE, rather than dramatic conventions, although there is some consideration of stage directions within the questions. The unit is comprised of the following: a pre-reading PowerPoint which introduces the Gothic genre and the historical context of the text, a printable unitof work which includes a quiz, questions on each of the acts, amongst some other activities. There is also an end of unit discursive writing task at the end of the unit. This would probably last 2-3 weeks.

This unit of work looks at the fairytale genre in comparison to the animated movie, Shrek. There are lots of fun activities relating to the Fairytale genre as well as a focussed study of the film itself.

Unit of work designed to support the teaching of “Hatchet” by Gary Paulsen. This is a write on unit suitable for National 4 pupils, or for S1/2, with a focus on RUAE. There are also numerous extension tasks within the unit, with a supplementary and optional creative writing task called “Staying Alive”. This is comprised of a short PowerPoint and a detailed paragraph plan to assist pupils writing their own survival story as inspired by Hatchet. This is ready to print and use. Enjoy!

These grids have been designed to be used in conjunction with the 2015 and 2018 SQA Past Papers for John Byrne’s, “The Slab Boys,” Both grids support the pupils’ ability to answer language questions ( amongst others) by focussing their thinking so as their answer is in line with what appears on the marking scheme. I made this resource as some pupils were struggling to identify and analyse the language techniques apparent in the characters’ dialogue . Each grid also includes help and guidance with answering the 10 mark question, with room on the sheets to complete each question.

As this is a new poem, there aren’t any official SQA Past Papers for this particular poem. These questions have therefore been made in this style in order to prepare the pupils for their final exam should this poem come up. Can be adapted to suit National 6.
