This lesson helped me to achieve and outstanding for a recent lesson observation. The PowerPoint looks at an empathetic style exam question and then there is a group work activity. The group work activity is set up so that you have a different character at each different work station, with different questions to get students to think and empathise with each character. Once downloaded, it is really simple to follow.

The 1st PowerPoint can be delivered in a number of ways and there are many questions based around the main characters that enable learners to empathise with them. The 2nd PowerPoint then focuses on the female characters and the planning and writing of an empathetic response. This could possibly be used over 3 lessons.

This lesson looks at a past exam question that focuses around the songs and music in the play Blood Brothers. You can access the CD for the songs for free on YouTube to accompany this lesson.

Looking at a question b based around superstition

A revision mat to help students to get their ideas down on paper. An alternative to use instead of the regular PEE. It has a specific focus on language and the effect that the writer may be trying to achieve. This worked especially well with my more able learners.

This presentation takes students through a fun activity to begin with, reminding them the need to use their own words when summarising a piece of text. The final task will need an extract to go with it.

This mat can be used when students are writing a descriptive piece. It offers students prompts when writing and includes a checklist.

A structured grid for students to begin to understand the relationships between characters in Romeo and Juliet.

This planning sheet can be used to plan any form of writing. There is a section on there for making inferences too, i.e. if students are responding to something that they have read. This really allows students to understand the importance of planning and really helped my lower ability learners in terms of giving them a really structured way of doing so.

This presentation gives tips and advice to secure the higher grades in English. It mainly focuses on the writing element and ambitious vocabulary.

Modelled response goes through the different stages when approaching poetry

This presentation helped me to secure an 'outstanding' judgement in my lesson observation. The presentation is set up to allow students to explore juxtaposition and pathetic fallacy in an extract. The entire lesson focuses on AO2 - Language, Structure and Form. The lesson is set up for group work activities.

The start of a modelled response to demonstrate to pupils how to write about mood and atmosphere. The model is aimed at B/C borderline students.

This presentation was used for my year 11's final revision session before the exam - they were all more able. I have many other more able revision packs too - look at my shop!
