This is the 3rd lesson in this series for Yr12 AQA Sociology Family. I created it for 1st Lock Down. It’s broken down into **4 one hour lessons. ** I used this with my 3 Year 12 groups, they found it easy to follow and I believe it develops a good level of knowledge and understanding, and importantly encourages students to do something with this developed knowledge to help make links and develop analytical and evaluative skills. I have made reference to news stories and clips (some are too big to download) and have included links.

This is the 2nd lesson in this series for Yr12 AQA Sociology Family. I created it for 1st Lock Down. I have made a reference used a BBC documentary on Domestic Violence. I would advise you watch it first and decide if it is appropriate for your pupils.

Introductory Lesson for A/AS Level Sociology

(1)
I use this lesson as my first lesson with my AS/A Level (Year 1) Sociology Class. The outline explains the 2 year course to them, and we use it as a folder organiser for sections of work. The powerpoint then runs through a range of activities, dealing with society, social imagination, norms and values, culture, social construction, ethnocentricism. The activities (word docs and video clip) link to the powerpoint. The key terms sheet allows them to reflect and record at the end of the lesson.

AQA Sociology: Family Distance Learning

5 Resources
These resources are designed to aid Remote Learning. I teach in a 6th form college, and used these family resources with my three Yr 12 Classes in the first lock down, so they have been tried and tested. I am still to put the remaining work on TES, but have a complete series of lessons. The aim here has been to create manageable chunks of lesson, to create engaging content, develop knowledge and create activities which promote application and analysis to develop understanding.

Year 12/13 Sociology Targeting and Progress Tracking Sheets

I use these Tracking and Targeting sheets with my 6th Form Students. They transfer the comments that I have made on their work onto their tracking sheets. The idea is that the students and I can easily track what they need to do in order to move in. This can be kept at the front of their files, or in may case I keep these in an folder attached to the wall - easy for me and my students to access. I also ask them to look at their tracking sheet before they start the next essay/LAQ and write the target at the top of the work - to focus them!

A2 Blockbusters Revision Game

(3)
This is a Blockbusters PowerPoint (link for music and brief TV clip). The PowerPoint contains two game boards (Unit 3 - Beliefs in Soc, Unit 4 Methods, Crime & Deviance Qus). The word document contains the questions and answers for both game boards, plus a load of spare questions. I asked my students to create their own game board as a homework. You may need to adapt the rules depending on the size of your class!
Families & Households Revision Booklet Activity

Families & Households Revision Booklet Activity

Students were set the task of designing a revision booklet - working together on this as a group activity. The Revision Booklet Doc - 'Their instructions&' suggested all groups follow the same format, so that the end product had common themes. The other docs &';Diversity, Divorce & Conjugal Roles sections' are examples of what some groups produced. Students obtained the &'Possible Questions&' from past AQA papers and questions suggested in the AQA text. This resource/activity was used for SCLY1. It is still useful for the 2015 AQA spec, but would need to have added the personal life of the family and a revamp of the question structure.

GCE AQA Sociology: Methods - Concepts and definitions (7191/2, 7192/1, 7192/3)

I used this after tracing methods as a review/revision exercise. I printed the concepts on one colour paper and the definitions on a different colour. So it was a Pairing exercise - group activity. Students all receive a card and had to locate their partner/pairing. I've used the ‘online time-bomb' when using this activity with my students, to create the pressure of time! It's a nice starter to the revision season! This is followed up with a written activity (word doc which tests recall/knowledge) I have a range of other resources uploaded covering methods.
