Pupils have to match the different picture cards representing engineering sectors to the corresponding name card. This resource was originally designed for the old KS4 BTEC Engineering Award Unit One exam, but has been improved to include a large range of different sectors. This could be used to promote different roles in engineering.
Due to the huge files sizes this resource could not be uploaded directly to the TES website, however the word doc contains links to google drive, where the files can be downloaded.
An A3 poster with a set of comprehensive workshop health and safety rules. The rules include machines and hot working equipment. The poster could be easily adapted to include rules specific to your workshops.
This set of learning objectives or assignment briefs breakdown the coursework element of unit five of the Design Engineering Tech Level from AQA. They have been adapted from the exemplar assignment briefs set by the exam board.
There are seven learning objectives that focus on ensuring the required skills are in place to complete the coursework followed by eleven more that focus on the coursework element. These could be easily adapted to suit a centre specific assignment brief.
Originally designed to introduce Thermoplastics as part of the old BTEC Engineering Unit Five: Engineering Materials, this resource could be used on a variety of engineering courses.
The PPT and worksheet can be easily adapted to include other thermoplastics that are relevant for your specification.

There are six learning objectives that focus on ensuring the required skills are in place to complete the coursework followed by ten more that focus on the coursework element. These could be easily adapted to suit a centre specific assignment brief.
Originally used with KS5 AQA Design Engineering this activity could be adapted to suit a range of KS4/5 engineering lessons about material properties.
A simple start activity which involves pupils matching each material property to the correct definition.
The definitions included are from Unit 1 of the AQA Design Engineering Tech-Level but others could be easily added.

A resource used a ‘sorter’ starter activity for a range of different engineering courses at both level three and level two. (Unit 5 Engineering Materials BTEC Level Two, Unit 3 WJEC Engineering, Unit 1 Materials, Science & Technology AQA Design Engineering Tech-Level etc). Pupils have to use the cards to create the acronyms of common thermoplastics, this can be easily extended by asking them to think of the full name of each plastic.
Can be easily adapted to to ensure all thermoplastics in your specification are covered.
This work booklet allow pupils to evidence design work for unit one of the WJEC Vocational Award in Engineering. This has been adapted from the exemplar material provided on the WJEC website.
Unit One requires pupils to design an engineering product (such as a lamp) from a client brief set by the centre. If you have access to computers the template can be easily edited in Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Acrobat or Powerpoint. If you don’t have computers you can always edit and then print the printable versions of the workbook.
Centres should adapt this booklet to suit their own assignments.
