A useful Powerpoint I created to discuss the 3 (three) mark questions on the reading SATS paper. I have included all the 3 mark questions from the 2016,17,18,19 SATS papers.
A great booster class or discussion tool and the mark scheme is very useful as it allows the children to see what the perfect answer looks like.
Hope you find it useful.
Sorry for the slightly poor resolution - please be kind with your feedback - it is free!
Across school, we have adopted a whole class reading model (Reading with RIC) which replaces the previous carousel method. This pack allows accurate and rigorous teacher assessment as it addresses a different reading skill each day.
Pairing Non-Fiction with Fiction for better understanding.
I was using the narrative ‘The Lion and the Unicorn’ by Shirley Hughes in my English sessions and this non-fiction sheet provided the essential background knowledge to my WW2 topic, allowing discussion of the key vocabulary required.
I have also posted similar sheets on ‘WW2 Overview’ and ‘The Blitz’
I would love to receive your feedback.

I have designed a skill specific scheme of work based on Chapter 1 of the book Viking Boy by Tony Bradman .
Each sheet requires the children to address a different reading skill. Answers are included.
Please note the work has been designed for year 5 or 6 as the book contains a number of violent scenes.
Please review and I will post similar resources.
A pack of Ancient Egyptian themed reading skill sheets for Year 3 or 4 which focus on the following skills:
Skimming and Scanning
Vocabulary and dictionary work.
Decoding
Retrieving information
Inference and deduction.
Author’s choice.
I have included answers which can be used for discussion - especially useful for retrieving skills.
Feedback welcome.
I have designed these sheets to aid moderation of writing across the school. As a staff, we felt it was important to ensure students met/maintained the previous years learning before they could be deemed as working at the expected standard in their current year group.
Hope you find it useful.
Please feedback to help me develop further.

I always allow children in my class to jot ideas down as they listen to the class story. This is a pack of sheets I designed to accompany the book by Shirley Hughes 'The Lion and the Unicorn'.
I look forward to receiving your feedback.

We use the 'Reading with R.I.C.' whole class approach to reading, introduced by @MrsPTeach, and during a recent history unit on WW2 I used these starters at the beginning of each session to aid discussion.
I hope you find them useful.
Please leave feedback and I will endeavour to upload more resources soon.

Not posted for a while but I have included similar sheets in my store in the past and they have proved very popular.
As a retired teacher, I now use these sheets myself as a tutor for Year 5, 6 and 7 but also for 11 plus preparation.
The extracts are all taken from popular fiction and the questions focus on different reading skills.
Vocabulary
Retrieval skills
Author’s choices.
Inference and deduction.
Summarising

They are excellent for discussion and can be used online when tutoring. I have not included answers but if you feel these would be useful, let me know.

As a school we have adopted the whole class teaching of reading advocated by Jo Payne (mrspteach.com) and I have designed a record sheet for each year group which can be stuck on the inside cover of the children's reading journals. We use these sheets to monitor individual progress and we record the child's reading age termly using the PiRA reading assessments. The baseline boxes on the left of the sheet are colour coded (red/yellow/green) at the beginning of the academic year to indicate what skills the child is more/less confident with.
