Introduction to Vector Geometry

(0)
Introduction to vector geometry. Includes examples and two exercises. One on simple questions where you just have to add the vector ‘routes’ and one that throws in some mid point stuff. NO PARALLEL LINES, COLINEAR POINTS OR PROOF HERE

Is this 0 needed?

A really simple starter that should be the jumping off points for discussion. Loads of numbers with zeroes in. Some needed. Some not. Some COULD be needed (if you’re dealing with currency or bearings etc) A conversation starter.

Pythagoras

What is the hypotenuse? Finding the hypotenuse Finding the shorter side Mixed Questions I taught this over two lessons. There’s no fun questions here at all. This is all practice, practice, practice. I want my students to get the skills down before applying them.

Estimating the mean from a grouped frequency table

Quite like this. A little discussion on finding the midpoint, followed by an example problem pair, followed by a very scaffolded exercise followed by an activity where pupils have to look at what’s changed, which I think is quite cool. I used Dr Frost to top off a little bit of practice here, too.
Simplifying Ratios

Simplifying Ratios

(0)
Deals with simplifying two part, three part ratios. Also includes a simplifying ratio colouring in puzzle, with loads of odd and weird ratios to discuss.
Maths fact tests : Half Term 1

Maths fact tests : Half Term 1

Made these as a way of drilling into my students useful facts that they should commit to memory (ie 1/5 = 0.2). Made to be used like old spelling tests. Give out the facts. Students use memory techniques like covering up etc to remember them, Then they can be given a follow up test (included) to see how much they’ve remembered.

Percentage of an amount [Non Calc]

(0)
Everything you need to teach percentage on an amount (non calculator). Will easily fill 2 lessons. 2 example problem pairs. 2 sets of exercises. An old sats question, a blooket and some plenary questions.
Does it change?
richardtockrichardtock

Does it change?

(0)
Simple one-sheet of questions. The aim of this one is to explicitly talk about doing calculations that do not change the result. ie : multiplying by one, and explicitly linking something like 5/5 to the concept of one.
Expanding Single Brackets

Expanding Single Brackets

(1)
Changelog 9/11/2021 Updated some answers on the second exercise. Starts numerically, looking at rules for multiplying. Lots of practice Problem solving question Learning check at the end
Thinkers

Thinkers

(0)
A collection of 7 starters designed for students to think about things not always explicitly taught. ie Is the result 2 or 1/2 Is the trailing 0 needed? Is a 1 needed?
Factorising Quadratics

Factorising Quadratics

(0)
Factorising quadratics where a = 1 Examples, a guided scaffolded exercise, a regular exercise, some exam questions and a section on factorising to simplify fractional algebra. More than a lesson here, use what you need or choose your starting point.
Perimeter

Perimeter

(2)
Everything you need to teach perimeter. Includes algebraic reasoning, drawing a picture with coordinates and the rest. Maybe 3 lessons here.
