This is a nice, simple activity (25-35 min) that does not require any preparation. Students love this approach to practicing translation. With all the favored Disney quotes on one page, students translate them from Spanish to English and then try to figure out what movie they are associated with. Dictionaries and/or textbook recommended. As a follow up, the students are asked to write down their own favorite Disney quote and translate it into Spanish. Designed for Spanish level 2 or 3.
Students know Batman, Superman and Spiderman, but do they know the Latin equivalents like Kaliman, El gato Negro and El Dorado? Students love this take on a Spanish cultural lesson where they are first introduced to 9 superheroes of Latin America (ppt), and then asked to think about a superpower they would like to have. This is then followed by a project (word doc) that allows them to create their own superhero using ser + descriptions. As an additional element to the lesson I often let students’ superheroes compete in a competition where students describe their superheroes and the class votes on which one would win in a showdown. Think “Batman vs. Superman”
If you enjoy this activity check out the follow up lesson here:
Super-Villains of Latin America

Great Project for chapters covering stores and store items. Students create a Spanish Tv Commercial / Radio Ad that will be aired during the Super Bowl. It is their job to select a store and product and promote them. First students are asked to fill out the brainstorming doc., then create an advertisement plan, followed by a commentary outline. As a final step they are asked to voice or video record their ad to share with the class. Students really enjoy this project. I recommend this for Spanish 2 or higher. Allow 5/ 60 min classes for the entire PT including 1 day to show final products. This resource includes all detailed directions, checkpoints to keep students on task, launch document and grading rubric.

This is an auction simulation covering store items vocabulary in Spanish. Shampoo, soap, lipstick, batteries, scarfs, shoes etc… This is an editable resource that could easily be change to fit any set of vocab. For example instead of store items it could be for clothing, foods etc… This is a conversational based activity that I use in Spanish 4. I do not recommend this for lower level Spanish classes because a lot of Spanish conversation and comprehension is required. As the teacher be prepared to lead this activity as the auctioneer. My students love this activity and really get into the bidding. Items for sale in the auction are contextualized for current pop culture. For example one item for sale is Kim Kardashian’s Personal Lipstick, another is Kanye West’s toothbrush. Play money is included with this resource. In pairs students must make decisions about what items they want to buy and must bid against other groups in order to win the item. When they purchase items they are given points. The team with the most points at the end wins the game. Duration is about 55 min.
Students get the opportunity to become travel agents making their own brochures through this fun informational research project. Student must choose a Spanish speaking country to research and provide detailed info via a travel brochure. This project is well organized and detailed, giving students specific directions and guidelines for thing to research and what include in the brochure. I base this project off of the Realidades 2 Ch. 8 travel theme and have students incorporate subjunctive by making suggestions for travelers. Example: If visiting Cuba I recommend that you bring your passport. This is also a good way to practice Spanish composition outside of the standard essay format. Duration is 1 week.
This Performance Task is designed for a Spanish level 3 or 4 class. It focuses on story telling using preterite and imperfect together. The performance task includes a writing component (approximately 100-150 words) that is then transformed into a script (100-150 words) and live performance or drama. Students really enjoy these absurd stories and performances that are created in a collaborative manner. Expect to laugh at the ideas that students come up with! Allow 6-7/ 60 min class periods to complete. This product includes a launch document, detailed checkpoints with directions and a grading rubric.
This is a great way to cover WWII in detail with a small amount of time. Students also get to take on more responsibility as they are asked to teach a mini-lesson over a specified topic. They have to design a warm-up, a presentation and some kind of assessment. Students enjoy this Performance Task as they get to become the teacher for a day. Students watching presentations also have a guided notes to be filling out, so all students are engaged. This product includes a launch document, a grading rubric, a topics list, guided notes and detail instructions for each day of the performance task. Allow 5 days (computer lab) for preparation and 2 days for presentations.
This Performance Task centers around a traveling theme (places and activities) and the Ir + a + infinitive grammar structure. Students are asked to plan a trip to a Spanish speaking country using computer lab research. As a product they are asked to type up their plans in a word doc. and create a picture slide show on ppt or prezi that highlights their adventure, using real info such as flights, hotels and tour companies. This PT has a nice writing component as well as the oral assessment. It includes a rubric and an example travel plan. Allow 4-6 days for research, slideshow design and oral presentations.
Looking for a good topic for a Spanish 3 or 4 Essay/ Writing Assignment? This is a great performance task that is centralized around a 400 word essay. Students always have plenty to talk about in this exciting NASA role that they take on. As the world nears its destruction, students are asked to choose 10 people from a list to take with them to Mars to start a new civilization. In the essay they are to talk about their choices and explain why. The Grammar focus is preterite, but can be modified for any tense. As an optional follow up to the essay, students can create a physical model of their new city on Mars using household items and present their project to the class. Time frame is 3-60 min classes for Essay. Allow 4 additional days for the city models and presentations. This Product includes a launch document, all checkpoints with detailed instructions, List of people and descriptions to choose from (in Spanish), a grading rubric, sample essay and the additional city model project instructions.
In this Performance Task students get to host a foreign exchange student for a semester. In preparation for their arrival, students are asked to put together a “first day of school packet” for their new guest. This PT has a nice balance of components such as drawing and labeling a map of the school, writing out their schedules and sending a letter to their new arrival. Students enjoy this creative approach to practicing school themed vocab. Duration is 5-6 days. A grading rubric and sample letter is included. Designed for Spanish 1
A great Performance Task that gets the students talking/laughing about it for weeks afterwards. Students get to play the role of a novice Hollywood actor as they create a “part 3” to the popular YouTube video series “Que Hora Es” (see link below). Show the students the videos by Cedric the Entertainer and then given the launch document for this PT. There is a nice writing component that goes with the final presentation so students get to practice both their writing and speaking skills. I use this as my first Performance Task in Spanish 1, 6 weeks in to the semester. However it could be modified to fit any level. Duration 5-7 days including presentations. Comes with Grading Rubric . This is a PowerPoint Presentation Jeopardy game that covers all major vocab and grammar structures in Spanish 1. I use this for my Final Exam Review day, but it is a nice recap that could be used at the start of Spanish 2 as well. vocab and grammar are based on the Realidades textbook, but it can be used for any level 1. Categories include (Vocab, verbs, definite and indefinite articles, possessive adjectives, Ir+a+infinitive, and a miscellaneous). It also has two double jeopardy plays and final jeopardy. I also throw a third element in my jeopardy games called club play where all teams playing have to be the first to come up with the correct answer if a club play pops up (it adds a nice dynamic to the game and keeps kids paying more attention when it is not their turn). Once club play is over the team that hit the club play originally will get to complete their standard turn. This PPT is set up to keep track of questions already asked and transitions from the home jeopardy screen to questions and back with ease (answers are also included on all slides with the click of a button)

I use this for my Final Exam Review day, but it is a nice recap that could be used at the start of Spanish 3 as well. Categories include (Vocab, preterite regular verbs, Direct and Indirect Object Pronouns, comparatives and superlatives, present progressive and informal tu commands). It also has two daily double jeopardy plays and final jeopardy. This is a digital breakout that focuses on early 20th century Immigrants, Segregation, Urban Life and Political Corruption. The concept is similar to the escape room, where students will have to collaborate in order to crack the codes to the five locks on the homepage in order to “breakout” of the activity. This is entirely online and students can complete this without having to move about the room. No additional resources needed. Students will work in groups of 4 or 5 to read through the site in order to gather information of New Immigrants, Urban life at the turn of the 20th century, jim crow laws, as well as political machines. This is done by navigating through the site that has hidden links and fun challenges that will ultimately lead them to the codes they need to find. Students love this and it’s a great way to introduce or wrap up the chapter on the early 1900’s.
This wonderful, editable activity was designed for my Spanish 2 class but could be adjusted for levels 3 and 4 by adding more past tense in descriptions and clues. During the “party” a mysterious murder will occur and it is students’ jobs to talk to each other in the target language to gather and infer information to make an accusation at the end of the game. My students love this game and talk more in Spanish than in any other oral activity that we do. All students receive character cards days before the game starts to tell them how to act, what info they know and what secrets they have. Packet includes an optional prezi to guide the game, directions, plot, character cards, name tags, character list, clues and data report sheet for students to fill out while in conversation. Allow 2-3 days for completion. Designed for my Spanish 2 class but could be adjusted for levels 3 and 4 by adding more past tense in descriptions and clues.
This performance task includes a launch document and grading rubric as well as all four checkpoints with directions, neatly arrange so that students know exactly what they are to be doing and when each component is due. By the end of the task students will be able to discuss food and drink, restaurant vocabulary; they will be able to read and order from a Spanish menu that they created and they will have completed a 100 word restaurant review in Spanish.
100% online and ready to go! No prep necessary! After happening upon a zombie in the janitor’s closet toward the end of the school day, students must quickly begin to make decisions on what to do about it. Each decision they make will lead to a different outcome. Most outcomes in the game lead to them encountering zombies and forces them to start over. However one path allows them to escape. Along the way they will have to read through the Spanish story line and choose their own fate, in between decisions there are also a few google forms that ask them to write out the explanations to their decisions before moving forward in the game. This is a super engaging reading and writing exercise for upper level Spanish 3 or 4. This is my favorite Spanish resource that I offer here on TpT! I do not recommend this activity for lower level Spanish classes. Duration is 45-55 mins.
**Game requires access to a computers. This is ran on google sites + google forms.
