Edexcel AS set work 11-12 music checkpoints

(0)
Each document is a list of musical checkpoints in each piece for the 2012 exam. Students can cut these out, stick them on a photocopied score or they can be cut up even further and students have to work out to which piece they belong. Easily adaptable for the needs of your pupils. Any feedback would be great, thanks!
Human Rights introduction

Human Rights introduction

(1)
Introduction into watching Hotel Rwanda on DVD. Students work out which human rights are applicable to them in school as well as viewing some of the more viewable pictures from Rwanda in 1994. There is a link to the BBC website with a compilation of news audio clips from 1994.

Building Chords

Building Chords

(1)
Useful for a starter from a previous lesson for chords - multiple choice of: what letters make a C chord, for example, what is a major/minor chord, what do they sound like ('happy' or 'sad' - feel free to use better descriptions!) leading into the chords they'll need for today's lesson for a class band song, which is only one chord away from an Axis of Awesome 4 chord song! Any feedback would be great, thanks! The song on the final slide is Just The Way You Are by Bruno Mars.

AS Music Edexcel Set Works 11-12 Jeopardy

(0)
If this is the answer what is the question? An answer is provided for the students e.g. E major and they have to work out the potential questions, of which there can be more than one question per answer. E major = final chord of the Beatles, key of the Perkins, key of the arpeggio sections in the piano/woodwind in the Stravinsky, key of the McCartney's verse, dominant of Haydn&'s song etc. Answers are not written on as it gives students the opportunity to show you and prove their answer is correct. Not an exhaustive list of answers! Any feedback would be great, thanks!
Area of Study 2 and 5 questions

Area of Study 2 and 5 questions

(0)
Questions in the 1 point list are the easier questions, 3 points are slightly harder and the 5 points are pretty tricky. Students choose which question they answer, write it down, check with teacher and move onto another question. Teacher holds all revision guides and anthologies so if a student doesn't know the answer they can ask. The teacher will show them the answer but they forfeit points. Useful for independent learning and self-differentiation. Could also be used as a research task for students. Easily adaptable to the needs of your pupils. Any feedback would be great, thanks!

Key points of the background of composers typed out into sentences. They can be cut up for the students to assemble into groups of the various composers. They can be further developed by adding in a Cloze passage element to them. Any feedback would be great, thanks!

An assortment of card sorts - you can cut these out, put sticky backed plastic on them, call out a question and pupils fold over the key terms to be left with the key term to answer the question. Can be used for starters, plenaries or other mini tasks. Any feedback would be great, thanks!

Music GCSE Edexcel Capercaillie carousel tasks

(1)
Useful as either a start into the piece, a revision or halfway through a scheme on Capercaillie. The Year 10 document can be either a Year 10 or a differentiated Year 11 copy. Any feedback would be great, thanks! There are all kinds of other things to be added on to there but it was put together rather quickly!
Moby timeline of events

Moby timeline of events

Similar to a Lord Of The Rings resource I've uploaded - a map of what happens in Moby's song; laid out in Cubase fashion (numbers on the top are the bars per box) pupils colour in/mark in which instruments are playing in which section (see second page of Word document). It is in the GCSE revision guide but is useful as a starting task on Moby. Any feedback you have would be helpful, thank you!

Edexel Music GCSE Composition booklet

A step by step guide of how to compose in the different styles of music. I have used only the following: Minimalism, African, Baroque/Classical/Romantic and Pop. Includes ways to get top marks for structure, developing an idea, exploitation of the medium as well as snippets of example scores. This is based on the previous Edexcel specification. It's a working document so far from finished but feedback would be great, thanks!
Music Intervals flowchart

Music Intervals flowchart

(2)
A bit of a work in progress as it still looks complicated! The aim is to create a step-by-step guide for students studying Music Theory to work out whether an interval is diminished/minor/major/augmented. Still a work in progress but any advice on how to make it look easier would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

A quick starter or matching the descriptions to the key terms - melody, harmony, texture, etc. Can be edited for extra words, examples of each element or even, depending upon your class(!), a demonstration of an element. Any feedback would be great, thanks!

Alcohol Awareness

(2)
A powerpoint presentation outlining ways alcohol affects the body, why young people think they need to drink, myths/truths about the effect of alcohol on the body and some video clips of people being interviewed about the effect of alcohol. Picture of the body included for pupils to locate the organs that are affected by alcohol - useful for a presentation to a class, group or year. Any feedback would be great, thanks!

**Update** I have just uploaded the sibelius version as with the change of TES I have been able to upload it. This is an example African composition score with 'notes&' on the score to highlight how the piece is put together. I am creating example compositions to go with a GCSE Composition booklet (have a look through my list of resources). Please leave any feedback you may have, thanks!
