This is a good speaking activity when students are first introducted to the preterite tense. Students will use 20 regular verbs (combination of -ar, -er, and -ir) to form questions and interview a partner with the guidelines below. Combine elements from columns A, B, C, D and add additional words to form questions and interview your classmate(s). All questions must have a different subject and a different keyword. NOTE: You must conjugate the verb. Questions should be yes or no type and can be about anyone or anything. EXAMPLE: ¿Hablaste tú con tu amigo en la clase ayer? Answer: Sí, Yo hablé con mi amigo en la clase ayer / No, Yo no hablé con mi amigo en la clase ayer On page 2, there are lines if teachers want to have students write their questions prior to practicing them orally.

Guidelines and an example are shown below. Las vacaciones de navidad (Christmas vacation / holidays speaking activity) Page 1 This speaking activity can be done when students return to school from their Christmas vacation / holidays. For the first part, students interview each other with questions on what they did over Christmas vacation using the preterit tense. (10 questions total) For the second part, students will interview each other on what they used to do over Christmas break, as a child with similar questions as the first part, but this time in the imperfect tense. (10 questions total) As an extension, this activity can also be done as a classwork or homework assignment by having students write out the answers to these questions. For this assignment, students will be given 5 regular -ar, -er, and -ir verbs along with subjects, additional words, and preterit clue words like ayer, anoche etc. . They will have to combine these elements and add additional words to create an original sentence of 9 words minimum for all the 15 verbs. This is a good classwork or homework assignment as students are being introduced to the preterit tense.

A template is provided for the students to use for all questions. Students also have to fill in the question answer chart as a way to help them answer their questions.
