I have been Head of RE, Pastoral Lead and Head of PSHE & Citizenship in my 19 year teaching career. I am currently Head of PSHE & Citizenship at a large secondary school 11-18. My shop includes: PSHE and Citizenship sessions, Assemblies, Tutor Time activities SMSC, Fundamental British Values and Religious Education. They are fully resourced RE or Citizenship lessons, worksheets or 15 minute assemblies/tutor time PSHE sessions suitable for 11-18 and some can also be used for younger audiences.

This is a 10-15 minute assembly about World Hunger Day, specifically in 2022 but could easily be adapted for other years. It is suitable for KS3-KS5 (Ages 11-18, Years 7-13, Grades 6-12) and includes a point of reflection/discussion activity at the end that could easily be lengthened with planning an activity if you wanted it to last for a 60-90 minute lesson instead. It was used as an assembly for the whole school Ages 11-18 and was received very well by the students. This session fits into the Citizenship and PSHE curriculum but also covers SMSC, History, Geography and Fundamental British Values. Students reacted very well to this as an assembly and many interesting discussions came from it. It is suitable for KS3, KS4 & KS5 and may be suitable for the upper stage of KS2 to explain to pupils the recent findings of the Commission. This can be used for a tutor time session, a PSHE or Citizenship lesson or a whole school assembly about current events.

This powerpoint is a narrated 10-15 minute session introducing the new cabinet which Boris revealed on 15th September 2021. It explains what a cabinet is, what a reshuffle is for and outlines who changed their roles or got promoted or sacked. It has a slide connecting it to British Values, a reflection slide and some discussion questions. It finishes with a quiz and links for further study and news stories. There is a downloaded short video clip showing the new cabinet to the students. This was originally delivered to Years 7-13 (KS3-KS5, Ages 11-18) in tutor time as a short introduction to the new Cabinet and to fit with the Citizenship curriculum and informing them on recent news connects to the PSHE syllabus. There are no written activities in this session but it could easily be lengthened to a whole lesson if needed. You can also remove the narration if you would prefer to do it yourself or leave it unnarrated for staff to deliver.

This is a 15-20 minute assembly on the role of an MP. It has some specific information about Birmingham but this can easily be adapted to include your own MP by following the website and instructions in the Notes section. This was originally a Year 10 Citizenship tutor time session but could easily be lengthened to last a whole lesson. It covers the definition of an MP, their role and tasks, the importance of democracy, the structure of parliament, what issues young people may be struggling with today and an introduction to ‘Make Your Mark 2022’ with the Youth Parliament. Students reacted very well to this presentation. It fits into the PSHE or Citizenship curriculums or can be used for a KS3, KS4 or KS5 (Ages 11-18 Years 7-13) assembly or whole school session on Fundamental British Values.

This is a 10-20 minute assembly on Storm Arwen and the devastation it has caused throughout the UK. It was originally used for a whole school tutor time Citizenship session at the start of December 2021 to explore the issues it raises. It is suitable for KS3, KS4 & KS5 (Ages 11-18, Years 7-13) and includes: A summary of Storm Arwen How it effected people in the UK Discussion questions about electricity cuts, importance of helping the community and whether the UK should be better prepared for extreme weather conditions How this connects to Fundamental British Values and mutual respect How this connects to the UN Rights of a Child Reflection slide about people who are suffering or have died as a result of the storm A downloaded video that will never disappear about the storm on the news Quotes about weather to discuss and reflect upon Links for further study The PowerPoint is narrated but this can easily be changed by deleting the icon on each slide if you would prefer to add your own narration or leave it for teachers to deliver. This could easily be adapted with written tasks to last a whole lesson if required. This fits into the Citizenship, PSHE and FBV Curriculums and can be used as an effective summary. Students reacted very positively to this session.

This lesson can last from 60-90 minutes and contains an introduction to the AQA Religious Studies A (8062). It focuses on information about exam technique for the Christian Belief section of the exam paper. Debate question regarding the £350 a month the UK government will give to anyone taking in Ukranian refugees How this connects to Fundamental British Values How this connects to the UN Rights of a Child Reflection and discussion points throughout Extra links so students can research further (mainly for online platforms etc or you are using it for a longer lesson) Links to newsround and bbc news website for a look at the news today. Logos, pictures and photos used throughout for visual cues and learners. This session is narrated but this can easily be changed by deleting the icon on each slide if you would prefer. There are no written activities but this could easily be adapted to a whole lesson for Citizenship, Social Studies or can be used as a whole school resource. This is a full lesson on an introduction to Hinduism covering their beliefs in god, festivals, beliefs, symbols, temple, worship etc. It includes a couple of short video clips and some discussion and written questions for students to complete. It has some extension tasks and is suitable for use in the classroom with no photocopying required. It is suitable for KS2, KS3 and KS4 (Ages 11-18) and takes an introductory look at one of the world’s most popular religions.

This is a 60-90 minute lesson for RE, Citizenship, SMSC, FBV or PSHE. It covers what MPs do, why students should write to them and outlines how to write an effective letter. This lesson belonged to a topic of Protest and this ends the topic with students writing their own letter of protest to their MP about something they feel is important in their local area. Suggested topics are given, written and discussion tasks included, a youtube clip that is downloaded that will never disappear and a section on emotive language and why this is important in letters of protest to MPs. There is a handout that accompanies the lesson to show students a model letter and allow them to have the selection of emotive language features in front of them while they write the letter. You will need to change the school address and MP’s details in the letter and the powerpoint to make it totally relevant for your students. This contributes to Citizenship education and was originally an RE lesson which was very well received by both the MP and the students. It is suitable for KS3 - KS5 (Ages 11-18, Years 7-13) and was originally a Year 9 lesson in the topic of Protest.

It focuses on Christianity and the work of food banks and street pastors. This session can also help towards the AQA Religious Studies A GCSE in the Christian Practices paper but does not have any specific exam focus. It includes: Picture Analysis of a food bank The Parable of the Sheep & Goats Teachings of the Parable of the Sheep & Goats An introduction to street pastors 2 video clips about street pastors (downloaded so they will never disappear) An introduction to food banks 2 videos about food banks (downloaded so they will never disappear) An activity to design their own organisation combining street pastors and food banks True and false quiz for a plenary task Extension tasks with a discussion and extra video links This lesson is fully narrated although this can easily be changed by deleting the icon on each slide if you would prefer it not narrated. This is a 10-15 minute narrated assembly or Citizenship tutor time session on the rail strikes happening in the UK. This was to inform the students about what was going on in the rail strikes, teach them the difference between public and private sector workers and give room for debate about industrial action. This could easily be lengthened to an hour’s lesson by holding a more formal debate. It is suitable for KS3-KS5 (Ages 11-18, Years 7-13, Grades 6-12) and can be used as an assembly or part of the Citizenship, PSHE, FBV, SMSC or tutor time programmes. This also covers the energy crisis, cost of living and the new laws that are now in place from this date. This is a 10-20 minute assembly about Brexit which is suitable for KS3 - KS5 (Ages 11-18, Years 7-13). It was originally a year 7 tutor time Citizenship session which was very successful. It includes two downloaded video clips that will never disappear, some discussion questions and a quiz as a plenary to check understanding. It includes: What Brexit means What the EU is What happened on Brexit Day What happened after Brexit and what needed to be decided as a country. It also includes a discussion plenary about how Brexit affects them. This fits into the Citizenship scheme of work, Fundamental British Values, SMSC and PSHE. It can easily be lengthened to last a whole lesson. It has no written activities but should last between 10-20 minutes depending on the length of discussion in your class.

This is a 10-15 minute assembly about foreign aid which is suitable for KS3-KS5 (Ages 11-18, Years 7-13). It fits with the Fundamental British Values, SMSC, PSHE & Citizenship curriculums and was originally a PSHE tutor time session for Year 9. It contains: What foreign aid is Where the UK’s foreign aid goes Why we give aid How much the UK gives in foreign aid What sort of aid the UK gives A video about where foreign aid goes A video about the government’s decision to cut foreign aid in November 2021 The videos are downloaded so will never disappear and there is a thinking task at the end. This resource does not contain any written tasks, just discussions but can easily be adapted to last a whole lesson if required. Students responded very well to this presentation and lots of interesting and useful discussions were had as a result of this session.

This lesson was originally a Yr 9 90 minute lesson but can be any KS3 or KS4 (Ages 11-16) lesson and shortened very easily. It goes through the six main religious beliefs about God and then an introduction to atheism and humanism. It includes a video clip, discussion and written activities, definitions, a quiz and a plenary. Students reacted very well to this lesson and it taught them that you don’t have to have religious beliefs to be a good person.
