This lesson is to introduce the Philosophy Unit for Religious Studies OCR H573 or H173. It gives a good introduction into what Philosophy is, some key philosophers, important philosophical questions based on reality, discussion and written tasks and embedded videos. It includes the parts of the specification, an introduction to the topics covered and explores key elements of the course. You won’t need anything else to introduce the Philosophy unit at A Level.
This was originally a Year 12 KS5 90 minute lesson but can easily be shortened or lengthened to be a 60 minute lesson to introduce Philosophy at KS3 or KS4. There is a glossary to accompany the lesson.

This lesson can easily be lengthened for two seperate hour long lessons if needed. The students reacted very positively to this lesson.
This is a full lesson on an introduction to Hinduism covering their beliefs in god, festivals, beliefs, symbols, temple, worship etc. It includes a couple of short video clips and some discussion and written questions for students to complete. It has some extension tasks and is suitable for use in the classroom with no photocopying required. It is suitable for KS2, KS3 and KS4 (Ages 11-18) and takes an introductory look at one of the world’s most popular religions.
This is a 60 minute lesson on religious symbols which goes through each of the major 6 religious symbols for pupils to explore, copy down, colour and learn about. This is a 60-90 minute lesson for RE, Citizenship, SMSC, FBV or PSHE. It covers what MPs do, why students should write to them and outlines how to write an effective letter. This lesson belonged to a topic of Protest and this ends the topic with students writing their own letter of protest to their MP about something they feel is important in their local area. Suggested topics are given, written and discussion tasks included, a youtube clip that is downloaded that will never disappear and a section on emotive language and why this is important in letters of protest to MPs. There is a handout that accompanies the lesson to show students a model letter and allow them to have the selection of emotive language features in front of them while they write the letter. You will need to change the school address and MP’s details in the letter and the powerpoint to make it totally relevant for your students. This contributes to Citizenship education and was originally an RE lesson which was very well received by both the MP and the students. It is suitable for KS3 - KS5 (Ages 11-18, Years 7-13) and was originally a Year 9 lesson in the topic of Protest.
This is a 60-90 minute lesson about social action. It is in an RE & Citizenship scheme of work exploring different ways people help the community. It focuses on Christianity and the work of food banks and street pastors. This session can also help towards the AQA Religious Studies A GCSE in the Christian Practices paper but does not have any specific exam focus.

This lesson is for KS3 or KS4 and introduces the main beliefs of Sikhism and the life of Guru Nanak including the River Miracle. There is also a worksheet to accompany the lesson. This is a 90 minute lesson but can be shortened easily.
This is a powerpoint and worksheet to teach KS3 and KS4 about the Gurdwara in Sikhism. It was originally a 90 minute lesson but can be easily completed in 60 minutes or adapted slightly for shorter lessons. It includes videos, discussion tasks, written tasks, extension tasks and provides visual learning for pupils for a really immersive look at the Sikh Holy Building.
