I created this booklet for my Year 8 class but can be used with other key stage 3 classes; all students can respond to the variety of activities, with the high prior attainers being challenged through the success criteria.

This lesson was created for a Year 11 revision lesson. Includes a model response.
Would be suitable for Year 10 and 11. Lesson is focused on language analysis and includes relevant contextual information.
Eden Rock Lesson and resources
A series of lessons on Eden Rock. Included: planning sheet and questions handout. I focused on the structure of poem and aimed to teach it explicitly so students could confidently respond to an exam style question.
Unseen Poetry Lesson- Prayer Before Birth
Students enjoyed this lesson; it included collaborative group work. Took more than one lesson to complete. Did not get on to the challenge (Adam Smith). Maybe a little too ambitious- or excited!
Before You Were Mine Analysis Activities/Worksheets
I created these worksheets to support students in exploring the poem in groups and feeding back their ideas to the class. They used the planning sheet to plan a comparative response. I’ve included one of the model responses that were produced during these lessons. Sorry, could not find my lesson PP to upload.
S.T.R.I.V.E Poetry Analysis worksheet
I adapted this resource to encourage students to explore poems more independently and thoughtfully. I’ve used it for group work, where each group explores a different focus of the same poem and then presents back to the class.
