Direct and Indirect Proportion Practice Worksheet

(4)
Worksheet comprising 4 sections to build understanding of direct and indirect (or inverse) proportion. Plenty of practice available to keep students occupied and to challenge students to ensure they are able to tackle problems successfully. This worksheet would work well with the 'Steps for Success' document that I have made available for free where a stepped approach for dealing with the topic is detailed.

Maths Department Handbook proforma

(0)
This is a comprehensive Maths Department Handbook proforma containing 66 pages that can be easily adapted for the needs of any secondary Maths department. It has been reviewed as part of my school's external inspection process and was cited as exemplary. I hope you find it useful. Obviously many sections, such as assessment, homework, behavioural policy, available resources, are specific to my school, and would need some amendment. Other sections, such as G&T policies, Calculation policy, Literacy policy, Use of ICT and Calculators, use of learning support etc should provide a good foundation for departments to personalise. It includes descriptors for the new GCSE specification 9 -1 grades.

This bundle of resources is ideal for anyone seeking to resit GCSE Mathematics at Foundation level and who needs realistic practice questions and mark schemes to support their independent work. The core skills papers focus on key mathematical processes that need to be learned (no using and applying), the 22 Maths homework papers provide short but stretching question and answer sections, and the 12 Number and Algebra, 12 Geometry, and 12 Statistics papers are specifically aimed at general use and application within a wide range of GCSE contexts. There are a number of additional practice papers focused on common and useful topic areas, such as fractions, equations, averages etc. A help booklet is provided to give users a starting point when researching problem areas and tackling areas of weakness.
Original SAT Maths practice paper for ages 10 to 11 covering levels 3 to 6

Original SAT Maths practice paper for ages 10 to 11 covering levels 3 to 6

(1)
These write-on papers cover a wide range of problems that are well presented and easy to mark; they comprise non-calculator and calculator assessments with questions ranging in difficulty from old Level 3 to old Level 6 based on the UK levelling system that has now been replaced. While 'levels' have been replaced, the monitoring document provides a means to evaluate the progress of a cohort or class of students, to identify strengths and weaknesses, and to evaluate progress. For the age group, results which are determined as 'level 5c' or above are above national average. Level 6 would indicate 'Gifted and Talented' students in comparison to the year group, and Level 3 would identify students in need of further support and intervention.
Function Machines and Inverse Functions

Function Machines and Inverse Functions

(0)
This worksheet comprises 3 sections over 3 pages with an answer sheet on the fourth page. It can be printed to a single A3 folded booklet. Section A provides 20 function machines with up to 3 operations to be converted into equations. An example is provided first. Section B provides 12 equations with up to 3 steps to be converted into function machines. An example is provided first. Section C provides 18 functions to be converted into function machines so that inverse function machines can be drawn, and finally the inverse function can be written. The sections contain plenty of practice and will provide at least 2 to 3 lessons of independent study. Each section is intended to develop student understanding towards the ability to write inverse functions. The relationship between a function and its inverse can then be discussed.

Maths: 12 Foundation Number and Algebra assignments

This is a series of 12 Foundation homework or revision assignments. They are designed to be used in conjunction with my excel, 'Monitoring' document which allows for all results from the Statistics, Pure and Geometry series to be recorded. These foundation papers are aimed at low to middle ability students. The set can alternatively be purchased to include both Foundation and Higher (for middle to high ability students) versions. They are designed for the new GCSE specification in the UK, and would suit any students within the same age range in other countries. This first series focuses on Number and Algebra and are non-calculator papers. They are easy to mark and provide excellent feedback (the monitoring document allows for results in key topic areas to be analysed, as well as progression as students improve their knowledge and understanding. These assignments have led to sustained improvement of Mathematics results in the College in which the author teaches with students excelling at every ability range.

22 Maths homework or revision papers for Ages 11 to 16 (over 150 pages)
silvestertimsilvestertim

22 Maths homework or revision papers for Ages 11 to 16 (over 150 pages)

(4)
This is a series of 22 homework assignments. Each page relates to the new GCSE specification grading structure (Page 6 is equivalent to Grade 6) with 15 marks available on each page and a style of questioning that allows for quick marking. For US users, the increasing complexity of the papers will ensure students can demonstrate what they already have learned while challenging themselves to advance their knowledge and understanding. The papers cover a broad range of topics and are designed to get students practising and extending themselves for examination preparation. They can be used successfully with any age, although younger students will naturally focus on the earlier pages of each assignment. The homework assignments are designed so that students can choose any four consecutive pages, or the teacher can designate which four consecutive pages the student should complete, hence targeting the ability of the student and always promoting the opportunity to challenge oneself. The monitoring document, therefore, allows for 4 consecutive page results to be input for each student, generating a percentage result and a ‘Page Progress’ result (which effectively determines the grade that the student achieves). These are easy to use, write on papers that have been used successfully to raise the attainment of Mathematics students at all ability levels at the College within which the author teaches.
Maths core skills and extended skills homework or revision resource

Maths core skills and extended skills homework or revision resource

(2)
These worksheets are designed as general practice for the basic Grade 4 (core skills) and more advanced Grade 6 (extended skills) ability ranges. There is no 'Use and Application', and they are designed purely to get students to practise the broad range of methods and knowledge required to 'do' Mathematics. They are ordered in respect of Number, Algebra, Statistics and Geometry. The 8 pages are designed to be printed onto A3 folded sheets so that students have a write on resource with minimal printing required. The Mathematics 'Help Booklet' that I offer for free, and the 'Steps for Success' document, provide guidance to students to help with the completion of these papers. The back page of the 'Help Booklet' directly references each question of Core Skills into the booklet; for example, question 1b on the Algebra page is referenced to pages 21 and 26 respectively of the Help Booklet where structured models are available to show the process of factorising linear and quadratic expressions.
