This is a knowledge organiser for World War II. It includes a basic timeline, key vocabulary, leaders and a map of the allies and axis (I’ve had to delete the image as I don’t own it but it’s easy to find one on the internet!). I’ve also uploaded a differentiated one for SEND children. This can be used as an assessment guide, but also for parents and children to learn some basics about WWII at home.

A great assembly that I used to introduce my school’s health week in which the children had to guess how much sugar was in each drink and then we looked at what too much sugar can do to the body. All information is on the powerpoint and it’s ready to use.

A unit of art - 3/4 lessons long based around the title ‘Who I am.’ Children learn how to sketch self-portraits using photos of themselves; practice printing using different medium and work on their colour mixing and pairing skills. This culminates in a multi-media piece whereby they use all of their skills to create a picture of themselves with a layered background of 2 tone colours and prints with their self-portrait. This links well to PSHE and to the book Wonder.

This resource is for years5/6 whole class guided reading. It focuses on a different skill each day and includes answers. It’s made a real difference to the level of reading in my class. You will need to download the poem ‘Talking Turkeys’ online, but it’s easy to find for free. The idea is to teach the skills and then take away the support a bit more each day so that by Friday, the children work independently.

Year 5/6 whole class reading - In Flanders Fields and We Shall Keep the Faith poems

This is a whole week of class guided reading based on the two poems above (you can download the poems easily from the internet). Each day focuses on a different skill: Monday - text type, prediction and summarising; Tuesday - vocabulary and grammar; Wednesday - retrieval; Thursday - inference and Friday is then a combination of all skills. Teaching guided reading this way is proven to up rates of progress and achievement by 40% and it has had a huge impact on my year 6 results already! Answer and a script for teaching are also included. This can be accessed by nearly all children as the questions get harder as they go down (challenge questions in purple).
