Homeostasis- Thermoregulation in endotherms

(1)
Powerpoint on the Thermoregulation in animals such as mammals, rather than in ectoterms (reptiles). Negative feedback loop is emphasized along with mechanisms for regulating temperature. Thermoregulation, negative feedback, hair erector muscles, sweat glands, evaporation, shivering, sphincter muscles, radiation. Targetting at AS/A2 level of detail. Revision/ plenary games at the end using key terms from transcription and also the previous topic of DNA replication. Also included are some excellent worksheets on figuring out the sequence of DNA, mRNA, tRNA's etc. High level of scientific detail throughout.

Accompanying worksheet with excellent diagrams to take notes with from the presentation. Definitions game as plenary- one of the pair faces away from the board without looking. Highly differentiated presentation. The other member describes the key word without using the word itself and the partner guesses.

Rate of Diffusion investigation

Designed for an observation lesson- focusing particularly on differentiation. Presentation is simple in its instruction and is differentiated in terms of out come. Paired work and group work focus. Practical investigation worksheets with differentiation on maths ability which can be amended further depending on ability. Final part of the lesson focused on applying new knowledge of diffusion to rate of diffusion work sheet and within human gas exchange. Could be used for starter for the next lesson. 1 of the work sheets has extension activities. Pair taught, and then pupils relay the information they have used on their sheet to their partner. Keywords: Diffusion, surface area/ volume ratio, Rate, gases, liquids, gas exchange, concentration gradient, diffusion pathway.

Regulation of Blood glucose and secondary messenger system

(0)
Presentation for A-level / IB on the regulation of blood glucose with reference to the mechanism used for the key hormones. Student worksheet is A3 sheet that offers comprehensive information for self study period. Recommend getting pupils to study the secondary messenger system and text and highlight new key terms that they are unfamiliar with. Resource matches well with presentation slides. Once mechanisms of blood glucose regulation has been reviewed in detail, in conjunction with secondary messenger system, focus should shift to reading and interpreting the graph. Good activity is to get pupils to convert the graph back into a data table and indicate when hormones will be released. Keywords: Glucose, Glucagon, insulin, Glycogen, secondary messenger system, Cyclic AMP, Adenylate cyclase, Diabetes.
