Students have to complete a challenging cut and stick activity to consider impacts of base deletions, additions and substitutions, on the base and amino acid sequences.
A three-sided worksheet that covers gene probes and genetic tests. It is specifically aimed for the AQA A level Biology spec, but will be appropriate for most exam boards. It assesses student understanding of some core principles, whilst running through how geentic tests are carried out for cystic fibrosis, huntington’s and digeorge syndrome (using chromsomal micro-array). Comprehensive and projectable markscheme included
Four worksheets that I have recently written in order to update some old resources that I was using. They are aimed at the Cells 3.2 AQA topic.
Suggested Answers provided for all
Cells and Mitosis recall worksheet (2 sided)
Antibody structure and function
HIV
ELISA tests
A revision sheet for the AQA GCSE Biology topic ‘Studying Cells’.
This is a visual sheet with various questions, colouring activities and CLOZE tasks. It gives an overview of the whole of the topics- cell structure, magnification, mitosis and the cell cycle, stem cells and transport across membranes.
I have produced this with my foundation students in mind, who are perhaps lacking motivation with the exam season fast approaching.
There is a set of dominoes included which contain 15 dominoes which students can cut out to form a loop of Q&A for the cells topic. the formatting of these dominoes looks wring on the preview but I can assure you it is fine when you download then
Autosomal Linkage and Chi-Squared A Level Biology PowerPoint Presentation - 11 slides long. It is a comprehensive Powerpoint with useful animations which I have used many times to successfully walk my A level students through autosomal linkage. Most of the slides have information in the 'notes' section to help guide you through each slide.
Covers the following:
Why drosophila are used as a model organism
Chi-squared in genetics
Autosomal linkage
How linkage is used in mapping

A Level Cut and Stick resource that covers - supplementation, replacement, viral and liposome vectors, germline and somatic and some of the ethical issues involved.
GCSE Biology - Protein Synthesis mechanism presentation which can be used to walk through protein synthesis with your GCSE classes. Covers, transcription, translation and the triplet code (although doesn’t explicitly refer to them as transcription and translation!)
***Not suitable for Edexcel exam board as there is no mention of tRNA

This pack includes a starter activity on atomic structure, Lesson PowerPoint with Learning Objectives and animations, the chocolate button worksheet and the atom scaffolding sheet (best blown up to A3). I have done this activity with many classes over the last few years and the kids love it and engage!

A comprehensive PowerPoint which takes students through the mutations that they need to know about for the AQA A-level spec (topic 3.8) - substitutions, Deletions, Additions, Inversions, Duplications, Translocations.
The Worksheet is 4 sided and assesses their understanding of these mutations and the effect on protein structure. The later questions become challenging for the more able.
Also included is a Markscheme to review the worksheet with students
Cut and Stick activity and associated comprehension tasks, along with a projectable markscheme (PPT file).
The cut and stick covers both stages of meiosis and genetic recombination, and provides a nice 20-30 minute activity that has proven to be an effective AfL task with my own classes, which was well received.
A comprehensive PowerPoint which reviews how Oestrogen triggers gene expression through the oestrogen receptor. This PowerPoint then reviews how the hormone and receptor can be implicated in cancer, and looks at how tamoxifen/endoxifen reduces tumour growth
