Kiki’s Delivery Service Movie Guide | Worksheet | Google Slides (G - 1989) challenges students to analyze Kiki and Jiji’s character traits. Explore Kiki’s rite of passage and compare it to what students of similar ages do in your community. Think like a director and identify how emotions are communicated without dialogue and how suspense is created in the final rescue scene. Discuss why Kiki was able to fly again and what her inspiration must have been. Finally, challenge students to imagine and describe what they would do if they were put in Kiki’s shoes and had to survive, make new friends and find a job in a new town.

Castle in the Sky Movie Guide | Worksheet | Google Slides (PG - 1986) challenges students to identify and compare character traits. Discuss how the director changes the viewers perception of Dola and her gang throughout the story. Explore the intentions that Muska, Dola, the General and Sheeta and Pazu have towards Laputa. Ask students to consider what Sheeta means when she says, “A King without compassion doesn’t deserve a kingdom.” Then, describe the character traits that king would need to have in order to deserve a kingdom.
