This is the TWENTY-THIRD lesson on the EDEXCEL GCSE Super Power Relations and the Cold War unit. It is the first part of the first key topic 3 flashpoint - Reagan and the Second Cold War, and looks at the consequences of Reagan becoming president for the relations between the USA and USSR. This assessment is for use after teaching key topic 3 - The end of the Cold War on the Superpower Relations and the Cold War unit at GCSE. The 9 lessons for this topic are also available. This lesson focuses on evaluating causes and reaching a conclusion about an historical interpretation. The key focus is cause and consequence, and it gets the students to start thinking about the causes of the First World War and evaluating their relative importance. Students have to identify information and fill in causation tables, and then complete an extended piece of writing evaluating an interpretation.

The lesson focuses on the abolition of slavery and requires students to think about the key people and key reasons why slavery was abolished. This assembly is suitable for key stage 2 and 3 students, and lasts between 20-30 minutes depending on how much of it is delivered. It considers the importance of black history and highlights the journey from slavery to the most powerful man in the world. It demonstrates the cultural contribution of the black journey and includes 3 clips - the slave trade; Maya Angelou’s poem ‘still I rise’ and members of the black community stating what black history month means to them and why.

Both contain short clips telling the stories of the 2 events, and a quiz which gets the students involved in the stories.
