These 4 lessons focus on developing critical thinking skills. Rather than teaching the skill in isolation, this combines English Language: Non Fiction Views and Perspectives as well as the citizenship issue of plastic pollution. The final outcome of the mini scheme is a piece of non-fiction writing raising awareness, hopefully with a clear argument, sense of purpose and voice. This was originally made for a top set year 9 group (13/14) but could be modified accordingly.

This lesson focus on the explicit teaching of the skill of collaboration. It breaks collaboration down into three key areas: interpersonal skills, conflict resolution and task management. As an English teacher, the final outcome and task was anchored in the current learning of the group (work in groups to pitch a new gothic story) however this could be adapted to any subject. Please leave feedback. This was lesson was aimed at 11/12 year olds but could also work with older groups.
