This is an interactive scenario which covers the US governments response when a bird flu outbreak spreads to the US from China in a global pandemic. The students are given key choices at each stage of the pandemic which affect the number of US citizens getting sick and the overall death toll. The tough choices can be used to encourage debate within your class and get students to justify their decisions. This can be used in either science, politics or history class and will last approximately 20-30 minutes. Provided are slides and accompanying worksheet.

This is a worksheet which supports a carousel of 6 experiments where students add reagents in test-tubes and make observations. They then use scaffolding on the sheet this to build word and symbol equations. They are then challenged to balance the equations and add state symbols. This is intended as a 20-30 minute activity to help students develop skills in creating equations based on reactions.

There is a version which is for more advanced students and a lower ability/starter activity version which is just to build the food web.

This is an investigation into the effect changing the concentration of hydrochloric acid has on its rate of reaction with magnesium. This is intended as a short project over several lessons to get students used to some of the factors needed in an investigation write-up. The aim of this experiment is to use results of a titration to perform a calculation linked to a real life example of measuring sulphur dioxide emissions from a power station. The scenario is that students are given a solution of sulfuric acid produced when waste gas from a power station is bubbled through hydrogen peroxide. They perform a titration the sulfuric acid against a known solution of sodium carbonate then use the results to calculate the mass of sulfur dioxide in the waste gas. Included in the PowerPoint is an introduction to the experiment, teachers notes, results table, instructions for students, advice on performing titrations and how to do the calculations. Depending on the group, different levels of support can be given.
