Notes on the new Development Matters and EYFS 2021

Year 3 Autumn 1 planning and spelling lists to support the No Nonsense Spelling programme. I found these really useful - hope you do too!

To use the suffixes -ing or -ed where no change is needed in the spelling of the root word. Add the suffix -ing in one column and -ed in the next. Apply words created to sentences.

Target Tracker statments in order with tick boxes for Reception statments and ELGs

Quick write forms for children to complete quick write with prompt sheets. I use these at least once every long term to track progress and identify phonemes to reteach.

Maths continuous provision cards in pdf format. Maths subtraction under 10 cards with coloured teddies and sentences to complete. If laminated, you can write answers with white board pens and rubbed off. You can also use counters or other maths manipulatives to work out answers. Here are some of the continuous provision ideas and labels I put together for the food topic are carrots orange.

A selection of compound word cards with pictures. Some with compound word picture, some left for children to write without the final picture clue. Space for children to write the word. I laminate these cards for the children to write on with whiteboard pens.

Phase 3 phonics activity sheets including find and colour the phoneme practise writing the letter add the sound buttons fill in the missing letters read the sentence write a sentence Sentences could be cut up laminated and used for sorting. I also laminate the writing sentence part for children to use whiteboard pens with. (can be enlarged)

Phase 3 trigraphs air, ure and ear real or alien cards with sound buttons for playing buried treasure. I laminated these cards and either use them in continuous provision independent activities or I have used them outdoors in a buried treasure game where the children pick a card out of a basket and run to the bin or the treasure chest to put the cards in - they can do it as a race or maybe to a timer. I added check boxes so whiteboard pens could be used for children to read and check independently (if laminated). They could also be used as real / alien flash cards.

Phase 2 missing sound card strips - I laminate the missing sounds strips so the children can use white board pens or they can just be printed as sheets. The children love filling these in. Captions using phase 2 sounds. I use the caption sheets with the sound prompts on the top so children don’t have to find sound mats but these could be cut off.

Number formation posters with rhymes. Arrows showing direction to start writing in. One number per page posters and a page with all numbers together. Could be laminated and used for number formation, ordering numbers (indoor or outdoor on a washing line) or used for posters and prompts on a writing table. I use mine outdoor for gross motor formation with chalks on the playground and indoor with sand writing etc…

Mastering Number slides to support the teaching of greater than / less than. Can also be used alongside the numberblocks greater than / less than episode blockzilla. Other resources / bundles available

Phonics phase 2 sentences to read on powerpoint with sound buttons and transitions using sets 1 - 3. Highlighted capital letters and full stops.
