Effects of greed in A Christmas Carol - 6 key quotation revision cards
6 quotations exploring the effects of greed in A Christmas Carol based on the May 2023 AQA exam question.
The revision cards are aimed at students look to develop grade 7-9 comments about the key quotations which meet the requirements for A01, A02 and A03.

Power and Conflict: 11 comparative writing frames for AQA poetry
4 differentiated writing frames to 4 actual AQA power and conflict past exam questions. Each writing frame has 3 tiers of difficulty to allow for the fact different students in the class require different levels of support and guidance in the run up to the examinations.
Tier 1: Students add the analysis of the quotations. The topic sentences and recommended quotations are already filled in for them.
Tier 2: Students must pick their own 3 quotations from each poem and analyse the quotations.
Tier 3: Students must pick their own topic sentences, quotations and then analsyse the quotations.

A simple revision mat activity to revise some of the basic skills required for Paper 2 Question 5.
Romeo and Juliet Act 3 Scene 1
A detailed and comprehensive lesson looking at how violence is presented in Act 3 Scene 1 to prepare students for an assessment.

Use for a final revision session or series of sessions on A Christmas Carol
Present the students with 6 big ideas about the novel.
Students use the attached top 50 quotations sheet to help add their ideas about each big idea.
I have also included a top 100 quotation version for higher ability students.
Then go through possible answers on the PowerPoint. The PowerPoint is animated and each answer appears on the mouse click so you can talk through each one as it appears.
I have also included 6 predictions about what extract might come up. Now we are 3 years into the 9-1 syllabus, I predict they might use a more obscure extract so I have picked 6 less obvious extracts. Students read each extract and complete the planning grid.

REVISING KEY QUOTATIONS IN BLOOD BROTHERS FOR CHARACTERS AND THEMES (WITH ANSWERS)
A revision lesson on key quotations from Blood Brothers.
Start by giving out the revision grid with only the quotations so students can analyse the top 6 quotations for each character.
Then give out the answer sheet so students can compare their answers to the model.
There is also a larger revision grid which contains quotations for each character linked to theme in case a theme question comes up.

9 An Inspector Calls model responses grades 4-9
This resource contains 8 exemplar responses on character and theme questions for An Inspector Calls with marks and examiner comments. The model essays range in quality from grade 4 to a full mark grade 9 response. This is an excellent resource to use in departmental moderation or to show students the different quality expected at each grade from 4 to 9.

A Christmas Carol Theme Revision of BIG IDEAS
PowerPoint revises 6 quotations for each of the following big ideas in the novel:
Poverty is a serious problem
Material leads to isolation
Supernatural as a catalyst for redemption
The rich have a responsibility to help the poor
Christmas is a joyful time
Family is important
For each quotation, the inferences are written in short hand to help students make precise and concise notes.
They are animated so teachers can talk through them one by one to build up the layers of inference.
A Christmas Carol 100 Comprehension Questions with answer sheet
100 comprehension questions on A Christmas Carol. 20 questions on each Stave that is useful to use at the end of scheme of work to test students’ understanding of the novella. All the questions are in chronological order. I have put them all onto one A3 sheet to allow for easy printing.
I have also included an answer sheet for students to mark the quiz themselves.
NEW: Also contains the questions in the form of a board game.
Also includes analysis of the top 10 single words to analyse in the novella with high level explanations of how to zoom in and then how to zoom out to explore Dickens’ authorial purpose.
Macbeth's fears grade 9 response
My attempt at producing a grade 9 full mark (or close to full mark response) to a question about how Macbeth’s fears are presented in the play. 2022.
The response is on the long side (1266) words. It has been written to try and meet the top band criteria for A01, A02 and A03.
Rather than starting with the extract, the response is chronological and charts the journey of Macbeth’s fears from being seemingly fearless at the start to forgetting the ‘taste of fears’ by the end of the play.
Also includes a planning timeline that charts Macbeth’s fears across the play.
Greed in A Christmas Carol Grade 9 response
A grade 9 response on the theme of greed in A Christmas Carol.
It includes a thesis style introduction.
Point 1 explores the Marley’s Ghost section.
Point 2 explores the Belle section.
Point 3 explores the criminals stealing Scrooge’s possessions in Stave 4.
