I have carefully selected 25 key quotations from A Christmas Carol from across the novel. . Each card contains detailed notes linked to the three assessment objects A01, A02 and A03. The notes are colour-coded to help with this. Also methods are underlined to help students see how they meeting the requirements for A02.
There is also a blank template which I give students first to see how much they already know about these top 25 quotations.

For each quotation, the inferences are written in short hand to help students make precise and concise notes.
They are animated so teachers can talk through them one by one to build up the layers of inference.
Selected annotations on Tissue and Ozymandias followed by a writing frame to compare the ways power presented in the two poems. Ideal for low ability students or for students writing comparative responses for the first time.
To push the more able, there are questions to encourage students to annotate Tissue independently.

My attempt at producing a grade 9 full mark (or close to full mark response) to a question about how Macbeth’s fears are presented in the play. 2022.
The response is on the long side (1266) words. It has been written to try and meet the top band criteria for A01, A02 and A03.
Rather than starting with the extract, the response is chronological and charts the journey of Macbeth’s fears from being seemingly fearless at the start to forgetting the ‘taste of fears’ by the end of the play.
Also includes a planning timeline that charts Macbeth’s fears across the play.
In my experience, students find beginning comparative paragraphs to be the hardest aspect of writing comparisons on the power and conflict anthology poems.
These two worksheets offer help with starting off discriminating comparisons.
Students use the prompts to complete the opening sentences to various comparative paragraphs.
A prompt sheet to help students to peer assess poetry comparisons against the marking criteria. I have used this with the AQA Power and Conflict poems; however, it can easily be adapted for other specifications.

Now we are several years into the new syllabus, I predict they might go for a more obscure extracts.
I have been through the text and come up with 6 predictions about extracts that might come up in 2025.
Students read each extract and complete the planning grid for each. Ideal to use in a final revision lesson.
Also includes a planning resource which offers 3 levels of differentiation to help guide students on how to structure a full length response on the following 4 themes/topics: children, materialism, ghosts, Christmas.
Tier 1 difficulty (I do): Big idea, topic sentences and quotations are provided. Students add the analysis of the quotations.
Tier 2 difficulty (We do): Students must choose 2 quotations to support each topic sentence and analyse the quotations.
Tier 3 difficulty (You do): Students have to generate the big idea, the topic sentences, 2 quotations a paragraph and the quotation analysis.
