Phase 3 Phonics x5 sets Matching cut/stick

(0)
What’s included? x10 sheets (activity sheets with answers) for Phase 3 split into x5 activity sets. Portrait orientation, pdf format. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in year one as well as older students needing additional learning support. What’s it for? This ‘phase 3’ phonics practise activity set has been designed to be a simple, predictable activity to promote independence and consolidate learning. This activity is ideal for groups to be getting on with independently. Phase 2 (x4 sets) in same design is also available in my TES shop if you like this one. How to use it? Each learner needs to cut out x12 ‘phoneme pictures’ and match x2 of these ‘phoneme pictures’ to every grapheme (printed on the left of each sheet). Dotted lines guide where to cut, though picture-squares could be pre-cut for those who struggle with cutting out. Resource Details… Phase 3 has been split into five sets, one set per sheet. This set includes initial, middle and final sounds - learners may need this pointing out before working on these independently if you want them to be kept focused. Set 1 j - jeans, jigsaw (piece) v - volcano, van w - wall, window x - box, fox (learners may need help with identifying that the ‘x’ sound is at the end of these two words) y - yes, yellow z - zip, zebra Set 2 (‘zz’ is in the middle/end of words here and ‘ng’ is at the end) zz - pizza, fizz qu - queen, quarter ch - chocolate, cheese sh - shoe, shorts th - thumb, three ng - ring, wing Set 3 (two different ‘oo’ sounds here may confuse some learners) ai - train, rain ee - sheep, bee igh - night, light (bright also!) oa - goat, road oo - book, foot oo - moon, spoon Set 4 ar - star, shark or - fork, corn ur - burger, purse ow - cow, owl oi - oil, coin ear - beard, ear Set 5 (three sounds ‘ow’, ‘or’ and ‘ar’ are repeated from set 4 (using different phoneme pictures) to avoid leaving gaps and provide an opportunity to reinforce these sounds) air - airport, chair ure - picture, treasure er - ladder, finger (s) ow - brown, clown or - anchor, fort ar - guitar, car Optional Extension Adding the word labels is optional and best provided as an extension for more able/quick learners. These tiny labels can be cut out and added under each ‘phoneme picture’, though the phoneme/grapheme matching should be completed first. The word labels are not consistently sound-out-able and learners would need to use their knowledge of the phonemes/graphemes already matched during the activity and look at the initial/final letter sounds to help them. Important message… ANY issues with any of this resource please don’t hesitate to let me know - I am happy to make changes. Feedback of this resource would be brilliant. Thank you! Christmas Alphabet picture/grapheme cards (Double-sided for use with 'Function Machine’)

(0)
What’s included? x6 sheets (picture/alphabet sound grapheme (with words) cards) to identify x26 initial sounds for each letter of the alphabet - all Christmas themed. All sheets are portrait orientation, pdf format. Also included are instructions of how to make a ‘Function Machine’ and what is needed to make one. The alphabet cards are designed to be printed as double sided and used with a Function Machine, however you may have another use in mind. single sided version also available Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one as well as older students needing additional learning support. What’s it for? These Christmas Alphabet cards have been designed to be printed double-sided on card to use with the ‘Function Machine’ (instructions of how to make one of these included) to practise identifying the initial sound of x26 images - all Christmas themed. Providing learners with a fun opportunity to practise their sound knowledge linked to Christmas. This activity has been designed to be a simple, interactive, predictable activity to promote independence and consolidate learning. This activity is ideal for individuals to be getting on with independently. How to use it? An adult needs to print these card (double-sided) onto card and and pre-cut the cards into x26 separate rectangle cards (x27 if using both versions of the ‘k’/’king’ cards) The set of cards can then be placed on a table top, positioned with a ‘Function Machine’ for learners to use on their own or perhaps with adult support (initially). Cards may be ordered a - z or given to learners mixed up and learners could order these themselves. Learners look at each image and say this out loud. They then identify (verbally) the initial sound of this word e.g. for the first letter of the alphabet the learner would say “Advent Calendar” and then “a” (for ‘Advent’). Learners then post the card (image side up) and when it pops out of the lower slot they can see if they were correct… Resource Details… The pictures included use words with clear initial sounds. Some images/words may be completely new to learners - an opportunity to expand their ‘Christmas vocabulary’. For clarity all images are labelled on the back of every card, e.g. ‘quince’ may easily be presumed to be a ‘pear’. Pictures included a - Advent Calendar b - bauble c - cracker d - dove e - elf f - fire/fireplace g - gift/s h - holly i - invite/invitation j - jingle bells k - king (two versions of the ‘k’ grapheme are provided) l - lantern m - mistletoe n - nuts o - orange p - pudding q - quince r - robin s - star t - tree u - under (the tree) v - Vixen (a reindeer!) w - wine x - Xmas z - zest (of lemon/oranges, lemon pictured) New online service coming soon with FREE downloads (including this resource) available! Alphabet matching lower and uppercase letters Rabbit/carrots

(0)
What’s included? This download includes four A4, portrait pdf sheets to practise matching upper and lowercase alphabet letters using an alphabet strip (showing capital letters) and carrots (for lowercase letters). Two pages include instructions on how to make a rabbit face into a ‘posting box’ with clear photos supporting each step. An empty tissue box is needed to make this resource. Dotted guide lines show where to cut. There are also two ‘slits’ which need making and a hole to be cut (inside the rabbits mouth) - these may be best made using a craft knife (used well away from little people!) This resource is designed for an adult to make ‘for’ learners to use. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed to be used by early years children and pupils in year one as well as older students needing additional learning support. What’s it for? This resource has been designed to practise recognising and matching upper and lowercase alphabet letters and to become more familiar with the ‘alphabetical order’ of all alphabet letters. Resource Details The photo shows how this resource looks which complete. The idea is that learners move the capital letter alphabet strip left/right to show a different capital letter. They then ‘post’ the matching lowercase alphabet letter (carrot!) into the rabbit’s mouth. This is an ideal activity to keep learners busy and independent. I have included two versions of the letter ‘k’ as some learners may be more used to the look of one style than the other. There is also a ‘blank’ carrot included in case one gets lost. Counting in 2s to 50 Game - Washing Line/Socks

(0)
What’s included? This game is made up of three resources. A set of x5 ‘Counting in 2’s socks’ sheets to cut up and use as cards, a set of x6 different coloured ‘Washing Line Game Boards’ and a matching set of counting in 2’s (sock!) number lines. update! Set of x7 number lines added - providing clear visual support for learners while playing this game! Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one and two as well as older students needing additional learning support. To play this game the two resources included are both needed. What’s it for? This download includes a game (for up to x6 players) to practise ‘counting in 2’s’ (up to 50) using pairs of socks as a helpful visual guide. This game has been designed to encourage learners to think about ordering two’s numbers separately from the predictable counting pattern. Learners will still need to use their knowledge of counting in 2’s to help them but through playing this game their ability to recall the sequence of 2’s number will be called on. Resource 1 details Counting in 2’s ‘Sock number cards’ x5 sheets featuring pairs of socks numbered from 2 up to 50. Printing these ‘sock cards’ onto card (instead of paper) will prevent the numbers being visible through the paper when placed face down to play the game (helping to increase ‘fairness’ / eliminate cheating!) Resource 2 ‘Washing Line Game Boards’ x6 sheets, six different colours are included - red/yellow/green/blue/purple/pink. Simple instructions (as well as what is needed to play the game) are included at the top of every ‘Washing Line Game Board’. Resource 3 x1 sheet which includes x7 Counting in 2’s number lines to 50 with socks. There is one black and white (neutral) version and one colour to match each of the ‘Washing Line Game Boards’ so each player can have their own number line to assist them during the game (if needed). Game tips use a counting in 2’s socks number line if needed (more challenging without) Remembering where players return 2’s number cards to the grid will increase players chances of winning! to increase winning chances encourage players NOT to choose to keep the ‘same’ cards (showing the same sequence of counting in 2’s) that other players are collecting. There are not enough of every sock number card for everyone to successfully choose and use the same sock number cards for their sequences. Reading (sounding out) High Frequency Words (Nouns)
alphabetlearningalphabetlearning

Reading (sounding out) High Frequency Words (Nouns)

4 Resources
What’s included? This download includes x12 sheets, x9 in portrait orientation/x3 in landscape orientation, all pdf format. What’s it for? This activity bundle has been designed to give learners an opportunity to look more closely at a set of the first 100/200 high frequency words. This set is ‘nouns’ which can be read by sounding out the words as well as matching each word with its corresponding image. This includes four simple, predictable activities to promote independence and consolidate learning. This activity is ideal for individuals/groups to be getting on with independently or those needing some individual 1:1 support. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for Early Years children who are learning these sounds (and words) for the first time, pupils in years one and two who need some practise/reinforcement of these sounds/words. This resource is also suitable for older learners with additional learning needs. How to use it? An adult can pre-cut along dotted lines provided and the set of x45 words (and images) can be shuffled and placed face-up on the carpet/a table top for learners to read and match. The cut/match sheets learners may be able to cut out the words (at the base of each sheet) themselves. Resource Details… These words are all from the first 100/200 high frequency word lists. In the ‘word box’ at the top-right there is a coloured triangle. The colour indicates which phonics phase this word fits in with. Pink triangles indicate that the words are from ‘phase 2’, purple triangles indicate that the words are from ‘phase 3’ and turquoise triangles indicate that the words are from ‘phase 5’. The ‘key’ at the top of each sheet also makes this colour coded system clear. In the cut/match sheets the same colour coding has been used - a pink box outline for words from phase 2, a purple box outline for words from phase 3, a turquoise box outline for words in phase 5 and a grey box outline for words in phase 6+. You can use this colour coding to help you introduce the words (and cut/match sheets) according to which phonics level your learner/s is/are at. Red letters indicate ‘tricky’ part/s where, e.g. the sound may be pronounced differently depending on dialect. Alternatively, the sound may have more than one of the same letter (and sound) which is possible to sound out but irregular. For example in the word ‘eggs’ the second ‘g’ is red yet both ‘g’s’ are underlined together. The underline indicates the number of sounds. Where two letters are underlined together - these two letters (together) have one sound. For example in the word ‘fish’ the ‘f’ is underlined on its own, ‘i’ is underlined on its own and ‘sh’ is underlined with the ‘s’ and ‘h’ together - this word therefore has four letters but three sounds, f, i , sh. A ‘key’ is included at the top of each sheet (top, right). The lilac box outline colour indicates that these words are all part of the ‘nouns’ set. The small, white tick (top-left of each image box) indicates that these words are intended to be sounded out. The words on sheets 1 to 9 have been arranged in alphabetical order. Alphabet match - j v w x y z (Blue set)

Alphabet match - j v w x y z (Blue set)

(0)
What’s included? This download includes x4 pdfs, portrait, in colour each featuring ten/five images that all begin with one sound - j, v, w, x, y, z. Images for ‘x’ do NOT ‘begin’ with ‘x’ ! I have researched words beginning with ‘x’ and none have a clear initial ‘x’ sound, therefore for all ‘x’ images the ‘x’ sound is at the END of these words. X is the ONLY letter where the sound is at the end. What’s it for? This resource is to enable learners to practise identifying the first (initial) sound (phoneme) of objects (images) and match these with the correct, matching letter (grapheme). Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in year one as well as older students needing additional learning support, revisiting any/all of these sounds. How to use it? An adult prints each sheet out (ideally onto card) and cuts along the dotted lines, including to separate the ‘letters’ from the ‘images’ (instructions are included on each sheet itself). These pieces (images and letters) can then be placed on a table top for learners to match - the image with the matching/correct letter sound as a two part mini jigsaw puzzle. Each letter only fits the images which have the matching letter sound. I have grouped the letters of the alphabet together. This sheet is part of the ‘Blue Set’ and designed to be used with letters j, v, w, x, y, z. Exploring this set together gives learners the opportunity to become more familiar with these letters by looking at them more closely. Other sets in this same design are available. This is a fun and engaging way to practise recognising these letters and identifying the correct initial letter (phonics) sound for ten (or five) images (per letter). Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in year one as well as older students needing additional learning support, revisiting any/all of these sounds. Resource Details The layout of every letter/sound in this set is in the same format, making this a predictable and structured activity, ideal to keep learners engaged and independent. Resource layout The font used is ‘Sassoon Infant Std’ - size 120, so a large, ‘easy to read’ size. The images included for each letter are: j jigsaw (pieces) juggle/juggler /juggling jeans juice jelly judge jukebox jockey jackdaw jellybeans v violin vulture vegetables volcano violets w wolf whistle wasp wheels watch wheelbarrow wall whale (in water!) watermelon walrus x ox six fox box wax y yoghurt yolk yacht yoga yo-yo (yellow!) z zebra zero zeppelin zucchini zombie Important message… ANY issues with any of this resource please don’t hesitate to let me know - I am happy to make changes. The focus of this activity is purely to identify the initial letter sound for these images - the cross (top right of each image) indicates that these images are not to be sounded out. The layout of every letter/sound in this set is in the same format, making this a predictable and structured activity, ideal to keep learners engaged and independent. Resource layout The font used is ‘Sassoon Infant Std’ - size 120, so a large, ‘easy to read’ size. The images included for each letter are: h house heart head headphones holiday hotel honey hive horse hoodie l lion lemur ladybird (on a leaf) leaf life jacket lime lightening lighthouse lead (for dog walking) lava m microscope mouse moustache mayonnaise microphone mountains monkey months (including March and May) megaphone moose n needle nurse nose newspaper narwhal nectarine noodles notebook necklace nine (including x9 nine sided ‘nonagon’ shapes) r rabbit radio ruler rattle robot rhinoceros rubbish recycle/recycling and recycling rubbish truck record on record player rectangle Important message… ANY issues with any of this resource please don’t hesitate to let me know - I am happy to make changes. Phases 2 3 4 5 ‘Tricky Words’ Handwriting (x4 sets)

(0)
What’s included? What is it?! This download includes four handwriting sets for phases 2, 3, 4, and 5. All are portrait orientation, pdf sheets to practise handwriting ‘tricky words’. There are x4 sets (x7, A4 sheets) in total. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one and two as well as older students needing additional learning support. Resource details This activity has been designed to write straight on. Each letter has a clear ‘starting dot’ so learners know where to place their pencil to begin. The words have each been repeated three times (in three columns) left to right. There are clear, visual, instructions at the top of the sheet, in three parts (left to right). In the centre (at the top) the colour order to follow is clearly illustrated, guiding learners to begin with dark green, follow light green, pale yellow, mid yellow, orange and then red to ‘stop’. Not all letters have enough steps to follow through using all of these colours. This resource has been designed for learners to write one word at a time, gradually reducing the level of support provided (left to right). E.g. learners begin with the word on the left (in the first column) and once they have written this they move onto the same word, to the right (in the centre/column two). Lastly learners write the same word a third time on the right (column three). The first word (column one) has a green (‘go’) starting dot, coloured arrows around the outside of each letter to show the direction to move the pencil from the beginning to the end red (‘stop’) dot. The second word (column two) also includes a green starting (‘go’) dot and red (‘stop’) dot as well as one arrow per letter making clear the initial direction the pencil should move in. The third word (column three) includes a dark grey starting dot and light grey stop dot for each letter. Learners will need to use the knowledge they have learnt from writing each word twice before to complete writing ‘word three’ more independently. At the base of some sheets (Phases 2, 3 and 5) there is a space to further practise writing each of these words several times and smaller (each positioned on a line). The words at the base of the sheet only have a grey starting dot to help learners. There is a clear space at the lowest edge of both sheets for learners to write their name and at the top of the sheets (right side) a space for the number date - helpful to keep track of progress if learners revisit this activity if needed. The font used in the coloured boxes is Sassoon Infant Std - size 65. Handwriting words included at the base of the sheet are the same font but smaller - size 40. What’s included? This download includes x2 resources which have been designed to use separately AND together. In total there are x24 pdf sheets, portrait orientation in colour. These resources are designed around the Phase 2 phonics sounds MDGOCK. One resource is matching grapheme/picture word puzzles - x10 images for the sounds m/d/g/o/c/k. The second resource involves sounding out these words and writing them - using sounds only in Phases 2 and 3 - perfect to practise and reinforce Phase 2/3 sound knowledge. This (second) resource is differentiated with a more and less supported version depending on your learners’ needs, the difficulty level is identified as an icon at the base of each sheet (right side). Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in year one as well as older students needing additional learning support. What’s it for? This resource set has been designed to practise matching graphemes with images beginning with each sound AND to sound out words (using letters/sounds within Phases 2 and 3) to write them. Resource 1 Details Grapheme/picture match puzzles The tick in each image box (top right) indicates that this image is a word which can be sounded out. How to use it? An adult prints out ‘Grapheme/picture match puzzles’ sheet onto card and cuts along the dotted lines, including to separate ‘letters/graphemes’ from ‘images’. The set of cut up letters and images can be placed on a table top for learners to match as a ‘two part’ mini jigsaw puzzle. Each letter only fits the corresponding image. c cactus/camel/cards/camper van/coach/corn/cow/crab/cricket/crown d daffodil/dart/desk/doctor/dragon/dress/drop/drum/duck/dustpan g gift/glass/goat/golf/gorilla/gown/grain/grass/green/groom k kangaroo/keg/kestrel/ketchup/kilt/king/kiss/kingfisher/kitchen m magnet/man/map/marshmallow/mask/matches/maths/milk/moon/mushroom o octagon/October/octopus/off/on/orca/organ/ostrich/otter/ox Resource 2 Details Writing words resource Pages 1-2. Learners are to sound out and write the words for the images featured on the sheet, one image per box. These sheets are differentiated - page 1 is easier to complete (than page 2) as lines (to write on) show how many sounds are in each word. Red lines/letters indicate a sound which may be difficult to hear clearly when the word is spoken, e.g. ‘cricket’ is often said as ‘crickit’ with an ‘i’ sound. Learners may need help with these (red) letters/sounds. Page 3 clearly shows the answers. Resource layout The font used on page 1 is ‘Sassoon Infant Std’ - size 120. Alphabet match - red, orange, yellow, green and blue sets

What’s included? This download includes x22 pdfs, portrait in colour each featuring ten/five images that all begin with one sound for learners to match - the grapheme and the image with that initial sound. These pieces (images and letters) can then be placed on a table top for learners to match - the image with the matching/correct initial letter sound as a two part mini jigsaw puzzle. Each letter only fits the images which have the same initial letter. Resource Details The images chosen all have a clear initial letter sound at the beginning but are not words which can easily be sounded out. The focus of this activity is purely to identify the initial letter sound for these images - the cross (top right of each image) indicates that these images are not to be sounded out. Letters of the alphabet together are grouped together as listed below - Red Set - letters a, e, i, o, u (letters e and o / i and u are together, x5 images each) Orange Set - letters b, d, g, p, q Yellow Set - letters c, f, k, s, t Green Set - letters h, l, m, n, r Blue Set - letters j, v, w, x, y, z (letters v and y / x and z are together, x5 images each) The font used is ‘Sassoon Infant Std’ - size 120, so a large, ‘easy to read’ size. The layout of every letter/sound in this set is in the same format, making this a predictable and structured activity, ideal to keep learners engaged and independent. CVC word/picture Matching Sets a e i o u

What’s included? x10 sheets (picture and word cards) for CVC words focusing on a, e, i, o and u. Split into x5 sets of x20 cards (x10 pictures and x10 words per set). Portrait orientation, pdf format. What’s it for? This CVC phonics/reading practise activity set has been designed to be a simple, predictable activity to promote independence and consolidate learning. This activity is ideal for groups/individuals to be getting on with independently. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in year one as well as older students needing additional learning support. How to use it? An adult needs to print and pre-cut the cards into rectangles (dotted guide lines make where to cut clear). Each set (a/e/i/o/u) is a different colour to avoid cards becoming mixed and to help finding a relevant matching card easier. A set (or more than one set!) of these cards can be placed on a carpet/table top and learners read each word by sounding out the individual phonemes, they then match this to the picture from the same set. Phoneme ‘dots’ have been included under every grapheme so that learners know how many sounds to say as they read (sound out) the words. Resource Details… The words/pictures included use phonemes/graphemes from Phases 2 and 3 but mainly Phase 2. Words included are - Red (Set a) cat/crab/map/pan/mat/van/hat/bat/bag/cap Orange (Set e) peg/bell/hen/red/bed/dress/web/ten/yes/pen Yellow (Set** i**) fig/zip/pig/lips/pink/pip/wig/stick (may be confused with ‘twig’)/pin/bin Green (Set** o**) shop/rock/frog/clock/cogs/pot (also ‘hot!’) /box/socks/fox/dog Blue (Set** u**’) bun (may be confused with ‘cake’ or ‘cupcake’ though in Yorkshire (where I am from!) this is a ‘bun’!) duck/cup/truck/slug/sun/bug/plug/hut/mug Important message… ANY issues with any of this resource please don’t hesitate to let me know - I am happy to make changes. What’s included? This download includes x25 pdf pages, portrait orientation in colour featuring TWO different resources which can be used together. The first resource is a set of x5 OR x10 ‘sound/picture and WORD’ puzzles which are to be cut up and matched. The second resource is a matching set of activity sheets which can be completed on their own or AFTER the ‘sound/picture and WORD puzzles’ have been completed. There is a set of resources for ‘s’, ‘a’, ‘t’, ‘p’, ‘i’ AND ‘n’. The words to sound out only use letters found in Phases 2 and 3 - perfect to practise and reinforce Phase 2/3 sound knowledge in both reading and writing. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in year one as well as older students needing additional learning support. What’s it for? This resource has been designed to practise sounding out words using letters/sounds within Phases 2 and 3 - sounding out to spell, read and write them. Resource Details Resource 1 The tick in each image box on pages 1 and 2 (top right) indicates that these images are words which can be sounded out. The layout of every letter/sound/word puzzle in this set is in the same format, making this a predictable and structured activity, ideal to keep learners engaged and independent. Resource 2 Pages 1 and 2 are the SAME activity sheet but at TWO levels - with MORE support (page 1) and LESS support (page 2). Both activity sheets are for practising sounding out and writing words. Page 3 clearly shows the ‘answers’. How to use it? Resource 1. An adult prints these two pages out (ideally onto card) and cuts along the dotted lines, including to separate the ‘letters/images/words’. Instructions are also included (left side). The set (of cut up letters, images and words) can then be placed on a table top for learners to match - the correct initial letter with the image AND word - as a ‘three part’ mini jigsaw puzzle. Each (correct) letter and word only fits the corresponding image. Resource 2. Learners are to sound out and write the words for the images featured on the sheet, one image per box. Page 1 is easier to complete (than page 2) as lines (to write on) show how many sounds are in each word. Any ‘red’ lines to write on indicate a ‘tricky’ sound which may be difficult to hear clearly when the word is spoken or may be an irregular spelling (not yet learnt). Learners may need help with these letters/sounds. Page 3 clearly shows the answers. Red letters identify a tricky/irregular spelling. Set of x5 CVC Words Activities Phase 2/3

(0)
What’s included? This download includes x15 A4, portrait pdf sheets to practise reading and writing CVC words mostly within Phase 2. Sounds from Phase 3 include j, v, w, z and sh. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one as well as older students needing additional learning support. What’s it for? This activity is interactive and encourages learners to sound out and read simple CVC words and think about what these words mean. Some words of course may have more than one meaning, however for the purpose of this activity I have only provided one illustration for every word. For ‘new’ words learners may need to work by process of elimination to identify the correct word/picture combination to record this (in writing) on the sheet provided. Resource Details There are x5 (colour coded) sets included here. Each set includes one ‘CVC wheel’ to make with easy to follow instructions. Once the wheel is assembled when turned different initial letters are revealed to make x9 CVC words per wheel. ALL words are ‘real’ (not ‘nonsense’) words. CVC words include the sounds ‘an’, ‘et’, ‘ip’, ‘og’ and ‘ug’ Differentiation Also included is one sheet in two levels of difficulty. The first sheet only has the initial sound missing (easier), the second sheet has ALL letters missing - for learners to write on the lines provided (more challenging). The level of difficulty is indicated by an icon at the base of each sheet (right side) - green for easier, red for more challenging. There is a clear space for learners to write their name at the base of each sheet (left side). The CVC phonics wheel can be reused time and again. Suggestion I suggest printing and making the phonics wheel out of card which is stronger so more robust than paper and easier to turn.
