A 13 page PPT Lesson. This lesson aims to prepare learners for their L1/L2 writing exam. As a class, they will discuss a sample question and the tutor will show them a basic answer. The tutor will then show learners how to bulk out their writing: in order the meet the exam’s word count criteria. There is then a practice question ( an article) and tips on how to answer this question. This PPT should cover an hour session.

This is a workbook which contains 10x alphabetical order tasks on a range of topics. In the E3 English exam, learners are asked to put a list of words in alphabetic order. I have created 10 worksheets that are similar to this exam question. Each worksheet has 18 words for the learner to put in alphabetic order. They can do this indervidually or as a class.

A fun English game designed for my KS3 class to help them with their creative writing. The board contains a series of 5 prompts which will allow the learner to build their short gothic story: setting, main character, spooky object, main theme and conflict. Give the student a dice piece. They will roll the dice piece 5 times moving from left to right of the board. For example: The first number refers to the setting, the second number rolled refers to the story’s main character…etc… The learner will then write a short story based on what they rolled on the prompt board.

An English Reading Comprehension Skimming & Scanning Activity. This would be ideal for E3 Functional Skills learners and pupils in the KS3 & KS4 age groups. The learner will read part of Twilight’s Chapter 1. They will then answer 10 questions based on this extract. There is an extension task and the learner is asked to identify any adjectives in a piece of text. Answers are provided so that learners can self mark.

24X fruit and veg flash cards. Can be used with ESOL learners, primary aged school children and Functional Skills learners E1 - E3. Get your learners to put the cards in alphabetical order by identifying both the first letter and second letter. These can be used for other activities. Prints double sided. A4 PDF document.

An English Article Writing Activity. This task gives the learner the following scenario: Your country’s football team have won the UEFA European Championship! To celebrate, you are planning to host a FREE entry party in the gardens of your local church. Ideas are given to what the learner may want to writing in the article, space is provided for planning and an article planning grid and writing paper are attached.

This activity is based on the Roald Dahl book: The Witches. It focuses on the chapter: How to Recognize Witches. The first activity is to get learners to use their skimming and scanning skills and to extract information from the book. The second activity is an article writing task. Great for KS2 & KS3.

15X Poetry Anthology Flashcards. Double-sided. Printed double-sided on A4 paper. 4 cards per sheet. Each card, on the reverse, has a number of key quotes from each poem. These can be cut-out and laminated to be used as flashcards for revision. I have also attached 15x blank cards so you can get your students to locate and write down their own key quotes. In order to print correctly, print ‘double sided’ whilst also choosing the ‘flip on short edge’ option.

A great lesson starter to get your students to remember character’s names and themes from the play. Instructions: Cut out the images on the grid sheet and place them inside of a container. Give each player a bingo card. As you draw an image from the container, ask the players to cross them out on their grid sheet. The first player who gets 3 in a row, wins the first round! Continue playing the game until someone gets a full house!
