A detailed and well-differentiated, editable history lesson all about how Mussolini, although a terrible individual with brutal methods, could be argued to have the qualities of a successful leader. This lesson allows students to investigate how he was able to become a successful, albeit brutal, dictator. This lesson investigates the strengths and weaknesses of Mussolini as a politician and was created for Year 9 but could be used for other years as it’s all editable - it’s full of exam-style GCSE practice questions. The lesson investigates the harmful effect of excess carbon emissions on our environment, the consequences and what we can do collectively to make a change. This hour long lesson (with PowerPoint, clips and worksheets) could be used with any KS3 group to illustrate the importance of source work as historians (and those working in archeology) in order to gain a detailed picture of the past. The lesson focuses on the story of the Pompeii and the evidence left behind that historians have pieced together to create an accurate view of the disaster.
