This is an A-level lesson on global commons. Key facts about the lesson are: 1. The lesson looks at the definition of global commons and examines what makes each of the 4 global commons special. 2. The lesson examines the economic concept of the 'tragedy of the commons' and then analyses how each global common is being managed sustainable through global governance. 3. The lesson meets the requirements of the new GCE A-level specifications. This is world map skill lesson. In the lesson students will be locating continents, oceans and some countries on a world map then creating their own map version. The purpose of the lesson is to improve students location awareness. This is a practical lesson, a good task for any time of the year but especially suitable for end of term run ins or those dreaded period 5s or for use as a cover lesson. There is a quiz at the end to wrap up the lesson as well. The lesson is suitable for all key stages.

This is a KS3 lesson on settlement functions. It is also an excellent lesson for a KS2 group learning about settlements and their local area. The lesson also uses various map and geographic skills to study settlement patterns which makes this an ideal skills lesson as well. Key facts about the lesson are: The content covered by the lesson are; Definition of settlement pattern, the three main settlement patterns (linear, nucleated and dispersed), using grid reference to identify the different settlement patterns on a OS map, predicting how a settlement pattern will develop overtime. Learning resources used in the lesson are; image analysis (including satellite imagery), OS map, grid reference, model making, sketching and a short writing task. The lesson then moves on to look at reasons for different rates of urbanisation between LICs, MICs and HICs. Finally there is a past paper question to check students learning before the plenary. 4. The lesson includes key numeracy and graphicacy skills - there are activities for drawing bar charts and using proportions. These are both key elements of all the new GCSE specifications. 5. There are also challenge activities throughout the lesson to stretch students learning.
