Studying bioluminescence has practical applications in medicine, environmental monitoring, and biotechnology, as it has led to advances such as imaging techniques to study diseases, detecting pollutants, and developing innovative bio-inspired technologies. Understanding bioluminescence deepens our knowledge of life’s diversity and inspires scientific and technological breakthroughs. With this in mind, let’s learn about this excellent teaching resource together! The research project template provides the perfect grab and go, print and provide resource that can supplement lessons. It is an project template with questions to check comprehension and inspire scientific thinking. It gives a rich and supportive framework that can be tweaked as needed for students to support differentiation. Each research project template includes space for a one paragraph summary (that may or may not link to the 2 page science article also available on this topic). Students should produce a mathematical connection, an engineering / technology connection, 2 interesting facts / stats. Further there are 5 glossary terms they should fill in with their own words and 3 thought provoking questions (ie: critical thinking questions) they must answer. This IB DP Physics sub-topic material covers all key knowledge needed for a given sub-topic. These materials are aligned to the 2023 syllabus onwards. They are developed by an IB DP Physics teacher who also knew the previous 2016 syllabus as well. While perhaps not the flashiest format, they are consistent and use Microsoft software and PDFs which is readily accessible to almost anyone. They contain Teacher made graphics which show the exact concept to be taught or question to be asked and are all original to The Teaching Astrophysicist. This science story provides the perfect grab and go, print and provide resource that can supplement lessons. It can be used in a variety of ways as mentioned below! Each story includes at least 4 images to bring a bit more entertainment and engagement. WHY / WHEN TO USE: You could ask them to summarize it. Ask students to define key terms in their own words. Can they connect the story to the modern world? What connections can they see? How short can they make the story and retain coherence? Studying pacemakers is crucial and fascinating due to their vital role in regulating heartbeats for individuals with arrhythmias. Advances like wireless devices and improved battery life illustrate the evolving impact of pacemakers on patient quality of life, emphasizing the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in medical advancements. This research project template provides the perfect grab and go, print and provide resource that can supplement lessons. It is an project template with questions to check comprehension and inspire scientific thinking. It gives a rich and supportive framework that can be tweaked as needed for students to support differentiation. Each research project template includes space for a one paragraph summary (that may or may not link to the 2 page science article also available on this topic). Students should produce a mathematical connection, an engineering / technology connection, 2 interesting facts / stats. Further there are 5 glossary terms they should fill in with their own words and 3 thought provoking questions (ie: critical thinking questions) they must answer. Finally, each template has 3 alternative thought provoking questions for younger students and 3 other alternative harder questions to extend high flying or older students. Giving you a total of 9 possible thought provoking questions that could be used with students to enhance their research and critical thinking. This IB MYP NGSS related unit planner showcases how you can teach using both the IB MYP and the NGSS together. The content for this unit is chemical change and energy with regards to exothermic and endothermic reactions. This unit is aligned with the NGSS as well as the MYP criteria. During this unit students will design / research their own experiments on endothermic or exothermic reactions that they would like to perform. Students will record their work during the experiment, analyse what occurred and why. (Objective B / C). Students will also create a presentation (individually or in small groups at teacher’s discretion) on endothermic / exothermic reactions and how they have impacted on society or in their lives. Particularly with regards to industrial level reactions used in modern manufacturing processes (Objective D).
