This is an overview resource/ learning journey for a Key Stage 3 History Curriculum and is a fully editable learning journey powerpoint. Useful for schools looking to improve their History curriculum- has been approved by Ofsted as an outstanding curriculum but can be further adapted/ improved. This is underpinned by key themes as you can see in the image. May also be useful for schools looking to build a more representative curriculum or move from a 2 year to 3 year KS3. This is for the overview powerpoint only not individual schemes of work for each topic. Also added my Key Stage 4 Curriculum which is Edexcel and includes Medicine Through Time (thematic), Anglo Saxons and Normans (British), Weimar and Nazi Germany (Depth) and Cold War Super Power Relations (Period study).

This lesson examines the Amendment process in the US constitution and the pros and cons of it for a debate. Updated with modern examples e.g. a detailed case study showing the evolution of abortion rights issue in USA which can be used to address and discuss the flaws with the blend of vague and specific language. Also includes a colour code of key debates and a detailed case study on the issue of abortion rights and how it has changed since Roe v Wade to illustrate some of the challenges of having a “living” constitution vs Originalism and the blend of specificity and vagueness.

Includes the RAD, Beauty of Labour etc and some analysis of the impact including Interpretations on the Standard of Living. Page references on worksheet are for the Pearson Edexcel textbooks however all info is included on slides so these could be printed for the groups if your school does not have access to these textbooks.

Fully resourced and detailed lesson- does not require textbooks. Includes a detailed essay plan for the 20 mark question assessing role of Trotsky in Red victory.

Edexcel GCSE Anglo Saxons and Norman England although can be used for other specs and adapted up for ALevel. Lesson on Revolt of the Norman Earls 1075 For GCSE Anglo Saxon and Norman England This lesson has all resources needed for teaching students about the Revolt of the Earls in 1075- ideally using the textbooks but all info is on slides if you don’t have them!

For edexcel GCSE Grade 9 answers to Question 3, 4 and 5 from the 2018 paper with comments about strengths of response. Also includes source questions from 2019 paper. Mock exam feedback powerpoint , self assessment sheet and grade 9 example answers. Slides contain common mistakes etc.

KS3/ KS4 Lesson based on Elizabeth I and her problems as she took the throne. Part of my unit of work on the Tudors (see bundle) High challenge resources although we use with Y7, they are detailed enough for any KS3 group or KS4 as an intro. Very comprehensive with retrieval activity starter.

Useful for Senior Leadership Links and Heads of Department/ Faculty/ Key Stage. My department recently had a very positive experience in an Ofsted Deep Dive. I have attached some useful materials to help other Heads of Department to support the process and to support their teams in what could be (but doesn’t need to be) a stressful experience. Firstly it is important to know- this is not a quick fix- you cannot pull the wool over their eyes if your department has a lot of work to do. However it is not a problem if you have areas of development as long as you and your team know what they are and you have a plan to address them. This introductory lesson looks at the context of WWI and the new advances in weaponry as well as the key Battles of WWI. Very developed and detailed resources for students including video clips of documentaries about battles and key features such as the blood bank at Cambrai, the underground hospital at Arras etc. Examines the nature of Trench warfare and Attritional warfare as well as tactics such as Creeping Barrage to minimise injuries in the battles.

This introduction lesson is for teaching of OCR Thematic ALevel course Rebellion and Disorder under the Tudors. It contains everything you need to get started teaching this brilliant ALevel course. I have replanned this lesson 3 times and now I’m happy with it. Lesson examines- the nature of thematic learning- the content and an introduction to rebellion with parallels to 2022/ 2023 context. Card sort activity/ colour code to look for patterns over time in causation of rebellions Activity which recaps and consolidates knowledge from wars of the roses- if you have not studied WOR as Unit 1- you can use the basic info from the slide and adapt it. Also includes comprehensive course guide with reading lists, model answers, key vocabulary, key individuals of rebels and supporters of the crown, timeline, course overview and essay technique tips and past paper questions and example pink sheet.

These quizzes are for Edexcel but they will also work for AQA for the most part (minor tweaks only). They are thematic- 20 questions per theme with a separate 20 questions on the case studies. (Care and Treatment is huge so this has 22) The questions/ answers are also all in chronological order to help support the building of a narrative of change over time. They are based on the WASIIC factors we use to explain reasons for change/ continuity (War, Attitudes, Science and TEch, Institutions, Individuals and Chance). Box for self evaluation at the bottom. We use these to check how well students are revising- we set them themes to revise each week then quiz them in class in test conditions. They can be peer marked to save time and you still get the results to put in your mark book if you need.

Edexcel GCSE lesson for Weimar and Nazi Germany- can be adapted for AQA or iGCSE Could also be used for ALevel as a base to build up. Lesson examining the impact of the Enabling Act and the Night of the Long Knives and how Hitler consolidated and strengthened his position to make himself a dictator The lesson begins with a consolidation/ recap of Hitler becoming Chancellor and the Reichstag Fire decree/ impact. Then it looks at how Hitler used the Enabling Act to attack trade unions and political parties before his purge of political enemies and the SA. Also includes a practice of a “how useful source” Question (although with just one source to save time- includes a model answer highlighting task for a cartoon source. Looks at how and why the Night of the Long Knives happened in 1934 and the Death of Hindenburg which enabled Hitler to name himself Fuhrer Very detailed, complete lesson- no additional resources are needed. Also includes a bonus video sheet for the Rise of the Nazis Episode 3 (BBC) but obviously I cannot include the video for copyright- however if you don’t have access it doesn’t matter- you can use a documentary on youtube or just use the slides.
