This double lesson introduces learners to supply and the factors which influence it. We start by looking at why suppliers supply, once students grasp that it is for the incentive of profit we look at examples which can affect supply. We then go on to illustrate these impacts on diagrams with shifts in the supply curve - all broken down so students can grasp it quickly. We then have a four mark question with a case study on the supply of houses, guidance on the assessment objectives required and concise model answers for students to look at when peer assessing. This double lesson introduces learners to the different ownership types such as sole traders, partnerships an private limited companies. We look at the pros and cons of each one. A few 3 mark questions with model answers to consolidate knowledge and exam technique. We then go on to read a case study about two brothers deciding to start up as either a sole trader and employee or as a LTD. The second lesson looks at franchises, we look at the difference between franchisors and franchisees, then go on to discuss the pros and cons of each, finally applying it to a case study on Subway - which includes a 6 mark model answer for students to use to help each other peer assess. This lesson introduces learners to internal and external considerations to complete a SWOT analysis. We start by looking at what a SWOT analysis is and the types of questions we need to ask ourselves to find out our SWOT. We then contextualise with a few examples such as Mcdonald’s, Thornton’s and a brief sorting activity with Apples SWOT. We then go on to look at a concise case study on BHP the large mining company, students can work in pairs or a group to assess the companies position using SWOT, the outcomes of this can be used to answer a 12 mark question based on the case study. This bundle of 3 lessons introduces learners to economic growth and a range of concepts within economic growth such as real vs nominal GDP, total GDP vs per capita and GNP. We start by looking at GDP charts to identify areas of growth and recession. We look at real life examples of countries with positive and negative growth with stimulating discussions. We also look at the limitations of using GDP as a measure of standard of living - a 12 mark question with a concise model answer for students to look before peer assessing and making improvements to WWW and EBI. Finally, we look at happiness and how it is really included when measuring how well an economy is performing, we look at the 7 factors that determine happiness as identified by Laynard.
