Job hunting doesn’t need to be daunting, we’re here to help you succeed. Whether you’re new to job hunting or a role changing pro looking for some new insights, explore our top tips to secure your dream role:

1.     Define your ideal role: before beginning your job search, you must consider the type of role you’d like and what you’d be best suited to. This will help you to focus on applying for the right jobs and make it easier for you to identify your dream role.

2.     Do your research: don’t apply for a role if it doesn’t align to your ethos and teaching values. Read the job description and person specification, and research the school to ensure you’re applying for a role that fits your teaching philosophy.

3.     Write a personalised CV and cover letter: many teachers apply for multiple roles. To make the most of your experience and really sell yourself, make sure your application letter is bespoke.

4.     Demonstrate your passion for teaching: although you may be nervous, it’s vital you talk about your motivation for teaching. Prepare examples of specific teaching elements that you find satisfying.

5.     Reach out for references: once you start applying for new roles, it’s a good idea to let your referees know. This gives you a chance to ensure they’ll be happy to provide a valuable reference and will champion you to a prospective school

6.     Follow up after your interview: you may not give it a second thought, but contacting the school to thank them for their time and  reiterate your interests in the position can help you stand out from the crowd.

By following these tips, you’ll be better equipped to find the right teaching job and level up your career. Best of luck from Tes!
