Create Your Own Self Esteem Smoothie - Creative Therapy CBT DBT

This is a fun, engaging, creative and non-threatening intervention which is great for students to explore self-esteem. In particular, self-confidence, identify, feeling of belonging and feeling of competence. What to do? 1.Encourage students to explore each of the 24 realistic scenarios on each page and reflect on how that scenario would make them feel. This also encourages self-compassion and consideration of feelings and actions as they resonate with each scenario. 2.The next step is for the students to explore the “Self-Esteem Ingredients” list and tick what self-esteem strategy they could employ and use for that particular scenario. This helps students to reflect, explore and gain insight into their own feelings and behaviours. 3.Students then put those ingredients into the “blender” which is located on each page to cement the lesson. There are 20 visuals for already developed self-esteem and confidence strategies which students can utilize. There are an addition 12 blank visual cards for students to explore some of their own individual and unique self-esteem strategies that work for them. 4.Lastly, students can create a name for that particular self-care smoothie. This heightens the learning outcomes and students become more likely to explore and employ these self-care strategies within their everyday life. NOTE – There is a COMPLETED example page so students can see this resource in action! This is a great card game to help introduce and reinforce learning about emotions and feelings. These are a great way to start or finish a group session! HOW TO PLAY 1.Simply pass out the cards to all the players individually. 2.Encourage everyone to sit in a circle. 3.Pick one player to go first. 4.They are to read one of their cards. For example “I have Anger. Who has Happy?” 5.The next person who has the Happy card reads their card and so forth. 6.Play continues until all of the cards are read. 7.If you want to make this more challenging, you can time the game and see if you can break your own record! Simply cut, laminate and keep these cards for a long time! There are a total of 22 cards. This is all about making learning about emotions fun! The activity includes • 1 x illustration of child with open and happy mouth (symbolizing things a child can say) • 1 x illustration of a shocked child with mouth closed (symbolizing things a child shouldn’t say) • Question/Statement cards that children can cut out which contains a comment that either can be pasted on the mouth open (something nice/good/okay/acceptable to say) or pasted on the mouth closed (something you shouldn’t say as its mean/not nice) This activity also includes some spare cards for either the teacher, students (group or individual) to write on as examples of things they feel are appropriate/inappropriate to support the development of insight and judgment. Anger Monster Lesson Activity - Workbook Craft Anger Management

This lesson helps students personify and project their anger onto their own monster that they create with the therapeutic aim to reflect and gain insight. Supporting children to personify anger can help make it easier to manage. This mini-lesson has been successful at supporting students who experience anger management issues. This intervention asks students to create a representation of anger and give it a name. By externalizing anger, it becomes something that they can deal with and manage. It is no longer an abstract idea that they have no control over. It becomes manageable. This intervention helps to create a sense of personal awareness and insight into their own anger. The Angry Monster can also act as an outlet so that the Angry Monster can hold onto the anger, helping to compartmentalize the stress and anger so that the student doesn’t have to. This therapeutic intervention requires the therapist to be very curious and unconditionally accepting of the Anger Monster that the student creates and imagines. Remember the vital role of empathy and at the end of the intervention thank the student for sharing what their anger looks like as a monster to support integration. To support communication, visuals are included to help emphasize the key messages of the book. The great thing about these cards is that they are versatile! You are literally only limited by your imagination. There are 56 cards in total and they support students to cultivate positive self talk, social emotional development as well as a growth and positive mindset. This resource includes numerous ways to utilize these cards. For example, print each of them out and put the in a jar. At the start of each day get each student to pick one from the jar randomly! They can place that on their desk for the day! You can use these cards on an individual, pair, group or whole class approach. For example as a group, you could choose one and ask the group members one of the following questions… When would have been a time that this affirmation would have been important for you to hear? Why? Who could use this affirmation today? Why? If you could give this affirmation to anyone who would you give it to? Why?
