Lobster Pots & Pheasant Traps Probability Game (inc. Dice Roller)

Lobster Pots is a probability based game I've seen in a few different guises, which kids really love once they've got the gist of it. 2 weeks worth of weather conditions plus full rules are included. Pheasant Traps is essentially the same style game with a few extra surprises and is more suitable to those who have already played Lobster Pots a few times. Full instructions and demos are included in the PowerPoints so that all students understand the mechanics of the game. This purchase includes my Excel Dice Roller @ 50% off to make playing the game much easier. Let the trapping begin!

Who's the greediest pig? Time to find out! This resource includes 3 version of Greedy Pig ready to go, with some class discussion and investigation included around strategy and probabilities for the game. I have used this many times with my classes and the enthusiasm it generates seems to help students really engage with the probability element of the game - anything that improves their chances of winning I suppose! This purchase includes my incredibly useful Excel Dice Roller @ 50% off. A version without the roller is available separately in my shop. Good luck and get greedy!

Texas Yahtzee - Probability Class Game (inc. Dice Roller)

A great way to teach the underlying concepts of probability is a game of Yahtzee. This has always been difficult until now, with this poker twist version. The teacher rolls 5 dice which cannot be changed. Students in pairs/solo roll 3 of their own dice up to 3 times. Yahtzee hands are made and scored. Every round that has a Yahtzee drops the teachers dice down to 4, and then 3! The PowerPoint includes full instructions displayed in an easy way to help first time players grasp the game quickly. This works brilliantly with the included Excel Dice Roller that I wrote specifically for this game. To purchase a version without the Dice Roller, look in my shop. Good luck rolling!
Crooked Stars Tessellation Investigation

Crooked Stars Tessellation Investigation

A great competition based lesson to encourage creativity with tessellations. The fully animated PowerPoint introduces the concept of tessellation while getting students to work as a team to find as many unique tessellations as possible. The file includes a set of blind instructions for drawing the crooked star - which always produces some great results - and animated slides to get across what the students are trying to achieve. This lesson can comfortably run for 1-2 lessons as a team competition. Also included are printable crooked star templates drawn on a 1 cm grid, to support those students struggling with drawing the star, or those wanting to use mirrored stars more easily. Good luck and enjoy! P.S. Please leave feedback with how many unique shapes your classes have found.

Buy Low Sell High Game (Maths & Business)

22/12/2016 UPDATES 1) INCORPORATE THE POWERPOINTS DIRECTLY INTO THE EXCEL SIMULATOR 2) INTRODUCTION OF WAREHOUSE FIRES! (OPTIONAL DURING PLAY) 3) I HAVE INCORPORATED GOOGLE FORMS FOR DECISION COLLECTION FOR THOSE WHO ARE INTERESTED (NOT REQUIRED TO PLAY THOUGH!) This is an excellent game to play with a class involving plenty of number work; competition; co-operation; business sense! Students can play in teams or individually, depending on class size and ability. This game is great fun at the end of term in maths or business classes. The basic premise is that students buy stock low, sell it high, and try to be the one(s) with the largest bank balance at the end of the game. Economies of scale can be utilised on the "variables" tab of the simulator. Students also have to be careful how high they go with the sales price, otherwise they may have a lot of stock left on their hands for the next day. Good luck and have fun!

Dice Games Numeracy Starter/Plenary

Several games that can be run from the whiteboard with ease, which students can do at the back of their books. Included games are: - Column addition - Column subtraction - Grid Multiplication (U x HTU and TU x HTU) - Column Multiplication (U x HTU and TU x HTU) - Division (bus stop method - division by single and double digits) I have run these at the start and end of lessons, and kids love them. They have now replaced any scheme of work teaching relating to the basic calculations, as I just scatter them in all throughout the year at random times or if a task finishes much earlier than planned. Beware! Some students get very competitive! See my other version to get the Excel Dice Roller @ 50% off!

An excellent, ready made alternative to doing a sweepstake at work or with your classes this year! The game is really easy. How it works: i) Participants pick 6 teams (conditions included) and a striker. ii) You input the scores from games and print off the leaderboard as the tournament progresses iii) That's it! The included Excel file calculates all appropriate scores based on those set out on the entry sheet. Enjoy!

An on screen dice roller I have made using Excel. Choose from 1-5 dice at a time, then press the "Roll" button to generate new dice. This dice roller works great during probability units as well as complimenting whole class experiments/games (see my other items for sale). Just save this file to your desktop and you'll always have interactive dice to hand.
