This PowerPoint presentation is ideal resource to teach your students about this important chapter of history that has remained silent for far too long. I made it after attending international workshops on this subject in 2017 and it contains main information about the topic, describing the main killing sites with quality photos and maps. Between 1941 and 1944, Nazi SS and German police forces, German military units, and locally recruited collaborators killed more than 2 million Jews residing in the Soviet Union (borders of 1941) in mass shooting operations. This practice of extermination has come to be designated as the “Holocaust by bullets” or “genocide by mass shooting.” Note: Although I’ve tried to be sensitive in the selection oh photos for the presentation, due the graphic nature of the subject material, some students may find few photos I have included in the presentation troublesome. If you want, you can delete them or subtitute with new ones, as you prefer. As a teacher, I understand how difficult it can be to teach complex topics like the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. That’s why I created this reading comprehension activity to help students gain a better understanding of the current situation. The activity includes a 5-page reading passage that summarizes the key events and players involved in the conflict. The passage covers everything from the initial protests in 2014, to Russia’s annexation of Crimea, to the ongoing fighting in Ukraine and international response to the conflict. The passage is written in clear and concise language, making it accessible to students at a range of reading levels. In addition to the reading passage, the activity includes two blank map activities that help students understand the geographical context of the conflict. The first map activity asks students to locate key cities and regions mentioned in the reading passage, while the second map activity asks students to identify NATO member states and their proximity to Ukraine. These activities not only reinforce students’ understanding of the conflict but also help develop their geography skills. The activity also includes a word bank and worksheets with questions in short answer, multiple choice, and true or false formats. The questions are designed to test students’ comprehension of the reading passage and help them develop critical thinking skills. Of course, answer key is also included. I also added Poster and Bulletin Board of Russia and Ukraine. Overall, this reading comprehension activity is an ideal resource for teachers looking to provide their students with a comprehensive and engaging lesson on the ongoing conflict. The activity is suitable for a range of grade levels and can be used as a standalone lesson or as part of a larger unit on current events or world geography. Every presentation contains additional resources: Word document (6-10 pages) with detail explanation of all relevant events and key figures, that can help teachers/researches build up their knowledge about these historical events, saving them days of researching.
