FRENCH VOCABULARY CARDS BUNDLE #2

6 Resources
PRIMARY FRENCH VOCABULARY KS3 FRENCH VOCABULARY BEGINNER FRENCH VOCABULARY CARDS THREE SETS @ £2.35 EACH IN THE BUNDLE 594 matching French and English games cards with two Reference, Recall & Write Workbooks, focusing on 297 beginner French words and phrases. Files are non-editable files in a zipped format. Please read the Terms of Use - the resource is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. The vocabulary groups are as follows: = Les salutations = Les jours de la semaine = Les mois et les saisons de l’année = Les couleurs (masculiine & feminine) = Les nombres 0-60 = Les animaux = Les fruits et légumes = Les parties du corps (singular & plural) = Ma famille = Mots fréquents = Les matières scolaires = Le français pour la salle de classe = Quel temps fait-il aujourd’hui ? = Bavardons ensemble ! = Questions et réponses* My students really like to work independently, in pairs and in small groups, and these vocabulary cards enable them to do that. There are lots of games and activities to play, and I’ve described several that are successful with my groups. I’ve found that giving students regular and frequent opportunities to play with the cards, not only when we’re focusing on these particular vocab groups, but across the school year, and even when they’re far more advanced in their learning - all learners benefit from going back to the start! There’s definitely some prep involved - printing, laminating and cutting out - laminating is certainly worth the effort, as the cards are a lot more learner-friendly, and do last for years. Students don’t have to play with full sets - they can work with selected vocab groups. There is an 18-page workbook for each set, which gives students a different way of consolidating their vocabulary - writing it out really helps to embed language, and is great for spelling too. There are 3 differentiated recall and write challenges, as well as a full alphabetical French-English vocabulary list, which works well as a longer-term reference resource too. My students learn a lot from applying their French practically with the game card templates - they enjoy creating cards for each other. I use the workbook for homework, holiday work, practice and revision or sub lessons - they’re really versatile. Written Recall Challenge One: students write the English word / phrase from a French prompt, with all the words and phrases grouped together in the same category Written Recall Challenge Two: with this challenge, students write the words / phrases in French from an English prompt, and again, they’re all group together in the same category Written Recall Challenge Three: this final challenge ‘switches’ at each question from French to English, and lists words and phrases randomly from each category - I’ve found that this really does encourage my students to think hard about their French vocab. Have a browse in my store for more French independent learning activities, and a wide range of other French teaching and learning resources, with French dollar deals, special offer bundles, and lots of freebies - I’ve included a couple here for you to try. PRIMARY ITALIAN VOCABULARY CARDS KS3 ITALIAN VOCABULARY CARDS BEGINNER ITALIAN VOCABULARY CARDS Files are non-editable in a zipped format. The resource is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use carefully. 99 beginner Italian words & phrases with 99 matching English vocabulary cards really do help to create a lively language learning environment, ideal for beginner KS3 Italian learners, and a great revision resource for students entering into KS4 Italian. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their beginner Italian vocabulary in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. The game cards and accompanying Recall & Write activities have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading, writing and spelling. It doesn’t matter if any of the words or phrases don’t feature in your medium or even longer-term learning plan: this is a great way of encouraging your students to engage with new language, and to build their vocabulary at the same time. The vocabulary groups are as follows: Saluti : I giorni della settimana : I mesi dell’anno : I numeri da 0 a 20 La mia famiglia : Le parole comuni : Italiano in classe : Domande e risposte Students can work independently of the teacher, challenging themselves and each other in their best Italian accent to find all the matching words & phrases cards in Italian and English. The card templates allow students to apply their Italian knowledge practically and creatively, as they put together mini-quiz cards for each other, preferably from memory. Creating new language is an essential element of successful language learning, so this is a key part of the overall activity, and it’s really popular with my students. The Reference, Recall & Write book has 18 pages. It includes an alphabetical Italian-English reference list of all 99 words & phrases. There are three recall challenges: Written Recall Challenge One students write the English word or phrase from an Italian prompt, with all the words and phrases grouped together in the same category Written Recall Challenge Two with this challenge, students write the words or phrases in Italian from an English prompt, and again, they’re all group together in the same category Written Recall Challenge Three the final challenge ‘switches’ at each question from Italian to English, and lists words and phrases randomly from each category. This challenges the memory more than when the vocabulary is in the order learners first learn it in, with the additional challenge of moving between the two languages. It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use carefully. 99 high-frequency German verbs with 99 matching English verbs cards really do help to create a lively language learning environment, ideal for advanced beginner German learners, as they prepare to move into and work confidently at intermediate German level. The games and activities are a really successful alternative to more traditional 'vocabulary drilling' exercises. Students can work independently of the teacher, challenging themselves and each other in their best German accent to find all the matching verbs cards in German and English. The card templates allow students to apply their German knowledge practically and creatively, as they put together mini-quiz cards for each other, preferably from memory. There are three differentiated recall challenges: Written Recall Challenge One students write the English verbs from a German prompt, with all the verbs in alphabetical order, German-English. Written Recall Challenge Two again, students write the verbs in English from a German prompt, but the German verbs are now in random, rather than alphabetical order. Language learners often learn or are familiar with new vocabulary in a particular order, so it increases the recall challenge by changing that order. Written Recall Challenge Three the final challenge requires students to write the corresponding German verb from an English prompt. The English verbs are also in random order. This challenge really helps with vocabulary recall, which is quite challenging when vocabulary does not appear in the context of a sentence. It's really useful for spelling in German too. KS3 GERMAN FRUITS & VEGETABLES CHALLENGE CARDS 108 DIFFERENTIATED CHALLENGE CARDS @ £2.00 EACH IN THE BUNDLE The resource is non-editable in a zipped format. It is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, shared or distributed, in whole or in part, outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use. The questions have a multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. They’re great for helping students familiarize themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling longer words and more complex sentences in German. Sentence structure and word order may differ from students’ first and/or home language, so it’s important to provide them with opportunities to engage with language that moves beyond single-unit vocabulary as soon as possible. It also gives them chance to apply language in a practical, real-world context, which in turn helps embed both vocab and grammatical concepts into longer-term memory. The cards are useful not only when you’re focusing on the target vocab, but also to work on German language skills in general, such as cases, adjectival endings, grammatical structures such as um… zu + infinitive and so on. The questions are all in German, and range in complexity and challenge. I usually read through questions before my students work with the cards for the first time, to ensure that everyone understands any new or unknown language and structures. There are 35 fruits and 37 vegetables addressed in the challenge cards, and it’s unlikely that they are all in your teaching and learning plan. I always include additional vocabulary to add a little challenge, and to encourage students to think a little more creatively and independently. There are alphabetical German-English and English-German fruits and vegetables lists withmasculine and feminine fruits, definite and indefinite article, and singular and plural. This really helps students familiarize themselves with grammatical concepts without explicit instruction. There are several***translation questions*** , both from German to English and English to German, which is a great introduction to translation for beginner learners. I explain that there are several possible correct alternatives, as translation is not a word-for-word activity, which is definitely useful for them to know from the very beginning of their learning. The question card template enables students to apply theirknowledge of language and grammatical concepts creatively and practically too - my students really enjoy creating questions for each other, and I encourage them to use the existing questions as a frame of reference as they create their own, and to include fruits and vegetables that are not already in the vocabulary lists. Each set comprises: = 36 question cards*, 4 per A4 (8.5 x 11) paper = answer key & recording sheet = alphabetical fruits & vegetables lists, German-English & English-German Have a browse in my store for more German resources, including special offer bundles and freebies. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use. A lively whole-group multi-skill language learning game, ideal for Primary French and KS3 French students. The repetitive nature of the questions and answers, supported by the visual prompt of the clock faces, makes it perfect for practising, reinforcing & refreshing how to tell the time in French. I frequently use a timer when we play. Playing in teams, using either a single challenge, or with both challenges, is really popular - students find the competitive element really motivating and are genuinely keen to see which team can finish first, and whether they can beat their own time record. There are two games, each with a different challenge: Challenge 1: with all the the clock times in numerical order, which is how they probably first learn the times Challenge 2: with the all the clock times in random order, which really helps recall and embedding new language, as students often learn time phrases in numerical order. PRIMARY FRENCH TELLING THE TIME KS2 FRENCH TELLING THE TIME KS3 FRENCH TELLING THE TIME I HAVE, WHO HAS? every analogue clock time with matching clock faces - six games, six challenges, 3 sets @ £1.95 each in the bundle Files are non-editable files in a zipped format. Please read the Terms of Use carefully. The product is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, shared or distributed in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. I have, Who has? is a great language learning game. The repetitive nature of the questions and answers, supported by the visual prompt of the clock faces, makes it perfect for practicing, reinforcing & refreshing how to tell time in French. It’s a whole-group communicative game, with a multi-skill focus on speaking, listening, reading, vocabulary-building and developing accurate pronunciation. The game really does help to create a lively language learning environment, and is a great alternative to more traditional ‘drilling’ activities. This bundle features 3 separate games sets, each with a particular range of clock times - across the three sets, every single analog clock time is used. There are four cards per 8.5 x 11 page - I always make sure that font and text size is fairly large for beginner French and Primary French learners, as it’s essential that the text - and therefore language - is fully accessible. In the Primary French classroom, we do often have learners who are just beginning to learn how to tell time in their first language, so it’s really important to make learning French manageable in my view. There’s definitely some prep involved - printing, laminating and cutting out - but it’s definitely worth the extra time, as the cards are a lot more learner-friendly when they are sturdier, and they last for years too. Groups of students can play different games against a timer in a competition - who can complete their timeline first? It’s great fun, and really popular. There are two games in each set, with a different challenge: Challenge 1: with all the the clock times in numerical order, which is how they probably first learn the times Challenge 2: with the all the clock times in random order, which really helps recall and embedding new language Have a browse in my store for more French resources, including special offer bundles and freebies. There are 42 pages in the book, and all 500 verbs are listed alphabetically French-English and English-French. Verbs that are conjugated with the auxiliary être verb are indicated by (être) following the particular verb. The books are ideal for***KS4 French*** students, and as a refresher and verb audit for those moving into advanced level A Level French. For UK teachers, these are roughly GCSE / Standard / age 16 examinations moving into advanced level, all examination boards (AQA, Edexcel, Eduqas, SQA). We use the Notes and Next Steps template to think about progress and vocabulary knowledge. Students find this really useful, and do like to map and track their own progress. It can be helpful in guiding and informing whole-group discussion about learning and progress in general, which is a really useful learning activity too - students also note down any new French verbs they learn, enabling them to build a really comprehensive verb vocabulary reference resource. The verbs are useful for engaging with the following topics and themes: youth, identity & lifestyle : fashion : culture, customs and traditions : relationships and family : technology and social media : sport, health and fitness : France and French-speaking countries : free time, hobbies and interests : entertainment and leisure : food and drink : local, national & international global areas of interest : transport : holidays, tourism and travel : environment, pollution, recycling and climate : social issues : school, college, current and future study : work experience, skills and personal qualities : employment, ambitions and career plans Have a browse in my store for more French resources, including special offer bundles and freebies. It’s also useful as an ice-breaker in the back-to-school phase, as it’s a very social activity, and really gets students up from their desks, walking around talking to each other. The information addresses a very wide range of languages topics, from world history, history of language, varied fields within linguistics to global languages facts for example. The cards are designed for older students, as the facts do require a certain level of world knowledge and language awareness, and particularly world geography. I always screen a world map first, pointing out continents, countries, regions and territories and so on, because using the cards is also a great way of actually learning about the world, its history, shifting geographical and political borders, migrating populations and so on. I use the cards in various ways: for example, a really popular method is the walk and talk activity, where students take a card each, walk around the classroom, exchanging facts - when they’ve shared the information on their card, students swap cards, and carry on walking — in this way, they encounter the same facts a couple of times, which really embeds knowledge. I tend to do this activity several times across the school year, following it up with an informal whole-group quiz, particularly when I feel that students need a break from more formal learning. I also use the cards as either entrance or exit cards - again, followed by a quick quiz at several points in the year - simply turn the language on the individual cards into a question format. This works really well when students quiz each other, which moves them away from teacher-led learning towards more independent and social learning. EUROPEAN DAY OF LANGUAGES EUROPE QUIZ The resource is non-editable in a zipped format. It may not be copied, rewritten, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use carefully. The quiz features 100 multiple-choice questions, each with four possible responses. It’s perfect for developing students’ awareness, understanding and knowledge of all things European. The questions range from basic general knowledge to more specialised factual knowledge. The themes and topics are: = arts & culture = famous people = food = geography = history = landmarks & monuments = language = literature = music; = politics = science = society. You can be Quiz Question Captain, but students do enjoy taking on that role in turns. The questions often stimulate further and deeper discussion about particular themes and topics - for example, the question regarding Eyjafjallajökull is a great example of a ‘modern-day’ volcano eruption, and the implications for both national and international communities, particularly following the recent eruption of Cumbre Vieja on La Palma, one of the Spanish Canary Islands. I often prompt students for additional responses based on the answer options - for example The longest river in Europe, the Volga, runs through which countries? Which countries does the Danube or the Rhine run through? and so on. I always award extra points for this, which increases the competitive edge a little. The quiz is non-editable for copyright reasons. The first slide shows a map of Europe, which I use to discuss general geography and the range of European countries, some of which students may not be aware of. Each question slide is followed by a corresponding answer slide, with the correct response in capital letters. The quiz is ideal for whole-group or team quizzes, with students choosing a European-themed team name . Play in homeroom / form time or in any subject area lesson as a brain-break - the questions really are cross-curricular! I use the quiz several times at intervals across the school year - this really does put students’ memory and developing knowledge to the test. The quiz goes down particularly well on the European Day of Languages, and at key points in the school year: end of year, back to school, Christmas and so on. SPANISH AR VERBS CONJUGATION PRACTICE #1

GCSE SPANISH KS4 SPANISH KS3 SPANISH SPANISH AR VERBS CONJUGATION PRACTICE Files are non-editable in a zipped format. The product is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed outside your own classroom, in whole or in part, in any way. The license is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use 3 workbooks, 3 tenses @ £1.10 each in the bundle focusing on 25 high-frequency Spanish AR verbs. The tenses are: = present (presente) = perfect (perfecto compuesto) = preterite (pretérito) There are 150 quick conjugations in each workbook across 3 differentiated conjugation challenges, so 450 conjugations in total in the bundle. My students really like this kind of grammar activity, as they like to work and learn independently, which is a successful way of varying teaching and learning methodologies - I’ve found it’s really important to avoid predominantly teacher-led learning in the languages classroom. The workbooks are ideal for advanced KS3 Spanish into KS4 Spanish / GCSE Spanish students who are beginning to work regularly with more complex language and texts, and generally developing their knowledge and understanding of conjugation and tense in Spanish. I use these kinds of workbooks in lots of different ways: for practice during the introduction phase, for independent choice in class time, for home learning, for practice, reinforcing and revision during vacation and at return to class, and for individual activities during sub lessons - I move onto conjugation quite quickly in my language learning programs, so that students can apply language practically and creatively, which is essential for progressing in language learning, as well as consolidating language and grammatical concepts. I give my students regular opportunities to practice the conjugations during the whole schools year, which they find this really useful for mapping their own progress and developing their overall understanding of how Spanish conjugation ‘works’. When they are able to provide the correct conjugation very quickly, and out of a specific context, they feel really confident that their conjugation skills are developing well Language learners do often try to conflate what they know about grammar in their first language with the grammar of the language they are learning. With the Spanish perfect tense for example, students with English as a first language frequently use tener instead of haber as the auxiliary, as they tend to be more familiar with tener. Students do need to to have a good grasp of the auxiliary verb haber in the present tense to ensure that they can form the Spanish perfect tense accurately. When we look at the preterite tense in Spanish, students often confuse it with the imperfect tense when they are conjugating verbs, as well as when and how to use either tense. There are specific and important differences in usage between the tenses, and I do always discuss this with students about this when we’re using the workbooks. Each set is structured as follows: Two alphabetical verb reference lists: Spanish-English and English-Spanish, useful for longer-term reference too Three differentiated conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations: Conjugation Challenge 1: each verb conjugated in Spanish across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English verb conjugation. Conjugation Challenge 2: gives the infinitive of each verb in Spanish, specifying the target pronoun. Students write the corresponding verb conjugation in Spanish. Conjugation Challenge 3: students write the corresponding Spanish verb conjugation, and its infinitive, from a Spanish prompt. I use the Notes and Next Steps template to encourage my students to reflect on their progress, and think about what they can reasonably and realistically do to meet learning targets and move on - we revisit the conjugations, and the Notes and Next Steps, regularly - sometimes students haven’t quite embedded learning before it’s time to move on, so revisiting for 10-minute ‘chunks’ is really popular with them. Students not any new verbs they learn, which in time builds into a really comprehensive verb vocabulary bank. We also use the Notes and Next Steps to inform, guide and focus whole-group discussion on learning and progress in general, which is a really popular activity. The answer key has six pages and is in book format. Answer keys are essential for this kind of learning activity, as they do provide a really essential additional opportunity for students to engage with language, and my students prefer to work and learn independently, assessing their own progress, either individually, in pairs or in small groups. They’re a great teacher time-saver too, which is always a good thing!
