PRIMARY FRENCH REFERENCE MAT FRENCH DAYS MONTHS SEASONS I create a whole series of high-frequency vocab reference mats and lists for my French students, as I like to ensure they are able to build a comprehensive vocab bank from the beginning of their learning. I get students keep them carefully in learning files or folders for current and future reference. I also have a stock for class work, printed double-sided and laminated - they last for years.
There are two alphabetical lists - one French-English, and one English-French, as I’ve found that students prefer to have both, particularly younger learners at the beginning of a particular topic or theme.
There are two non-editable files in a zipped format. They’re copyright, all rights reserved. They may not be copied, rewritten, shared or distributed in any way. Please read the Terms of Use carefully.

BACK TO SCHOOL FRENCH GREETINGS BONJOUR BUNTING It’s great to create a new look for the new school year - I use bunting not only to create a real French look and feel in the learning environment, but also to promote everyday language and core vocabulary for learners of all ages. Bunting works well throughout the entire school year, but definitely has a celebratory back to school feel! The bunting has a small tag that you can clip to a line of string across the room (like a washing line!), or to a wall.

EFL ESL ENGLISH NUMBERS 0-100 LIST Create an instant reference resource for students focusing on high-frequency beginner English vocabulary. I’ve found that these kinds of reference lists are a really successful learning support resource, and are really popular with students too. They work well when students keep them carefully in learning files or folders for current and future reference. They also work well printed double-sided and laminated for small-group work in class. I designed this specifically for my young and/or beginning learners of English, and it’s suitable for a range of ages and learning stages.
There are two backgrounds to choose from - England flag, which I often use for display in the EFL ESL ELL classroom, or black wave. The numbers are written across single page in landscape format - I use this for more experienced English learners, who are a little more comfortable with reading in***English***- the font is fairly small.

PRIMARY MATHS NUMBERS 0-10 Word searches a fabulous way of encouraging learners to engage with the written word, practising and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This is a free word search, focusing on Numbers 0-10. The search offers a really useful learning opportunity - consolidating not only new numbers, but also working on reading, writing, spelling and literacy skills in general - children often focus on the arithmetic skills involved with numbers, but it’s just as important to work on consolidating the written words too. It’s ideal for both independent learning, as a fun-time filler as well as a targeted practice of the written numbers themselves.
Word searches are easily differentiated, with opportunity to increase challenge gradually, and learners have to look very carefully at letters, and how words are constructed to complete the grid. They are able to identify which direction words are located in within the grid by referring to the arrow key. Here, for additional consolidation, they also rewrite each number in the word column. There is an answer grid for the word search, so that learners can check their answers - or use for a little extra help if they need it! For me, answer keys are essential, as they not only provide learners with another opportunity to engage with language, but they also help them develop more independence in their learning. They’re also a great teacher time-saver - a real bonus!
The word search is in landscape format, mirroring the common direction of reading and writing in English from left to right, facilitating learner engagement with the activity. The landscape format is also really useful for learners whose first language is written from right to left. There is a single grid per 8.5 x 11 (A4) sheet - I like to ensure that text is accessible to all learners, and at this stage of their learning, it’s absolutely essential that language looks accessible and manageable.
Please note this is the math center version of my ESL / EFL Numbers 0-10 Word Search freebie. The file is non-editable in a zipped format. It is copyright, all rights reserved - it may not be shared, distributed outside your own classroom, copied or rewritten in any way - please read the Terms of Use.

ESL EFL ENGLISH VERBS LIST reference resource for students focusing on high-frequency English verbs. I’ve found that the lists are a great learning support resource, and they’re really popular with students too. They work well when students keep them carefully in learning files or folders for current and future reference. They also work well printed double-sided and laminated for small-group work in class.
This list is a collection of 100 high-frequency and common English verbs that students generally need in the advanced beginning to intermediate stages of their English Language learning programmes. It includes regular and irregular verbs, with some modals. They are all in the infinitive form - it’s an important step in learning is to ensure that students quickly develop a useful vocabulary bank, are able to recognize English verbs, and are confident with the meaning of those verbs - at that point we can move swiftly on to looking at conjugation and using the verbs in a communicative and practical context. Students shouldn’t take on the task of learning the verbs all at once though - this is more of a longer-term reference resource that students can use to audit their developing English verb vocabulary.
There are two backgrounds to choose from - England flag (which I tend to use as part of a grammar display), and black wave - students tell me that this makes vocab lists more visually appealing, which is really useful when they’ve got a lot of vocab to work through and learn.

PRIMARY LATIN KS3 LATIN NUMBERS ROMAN NUMERALS 0-20 A great instant reference resource for students focusing on beginner Latin vocabulary. I’ve found that the lists are a great learning support resource, and they’re really popular with students too. Numbers and Roman Numerals definitely provide lots of ***opportunities for cross-curricular learnin***g in class time, particularly with mental maths games, which really helps beginner Latin learners get to grips with the target vocabulary.
There are two backgrounds to choose from: colour or black wave - I use the colour background for Latin vocabulary display, and I find that the wave background adds a ***visual appea***l to the vocabulary list, which can be a real motivator for learning, particularly when students have a lot of vocabulary to learn.

VIELEN DANK UND VIEL SPAß IN DER DEUTSCHSTUNDE!
GCSE GERMAN DOMINOES GAMES High-frequency German verbs dominoes games: 3 games and challenges are a lively alternative to more traditional grammar & vocabulary ‘drilling’ activities. They will help students build up and embed their vocabulary and knowledge of high-frequency German verbs in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. There are 99 common German verbs in the infinitive form, along with the corresponding English verbs. Students can work happily challenging themselves and each other to create a perfect domino bilingual verb sequence, on the classroom floor, or on a long(ish) table, by matching the German and English verbs. The game has a bonus multi-focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, and reading, and also helps students identify cognates and words that may look similar to English, but mean something different.
There are three games, each with a different level of challenge:
Challenge One features the verbs in alphabetical order, German to English
Challenge Two features the verbs in random order, also German to English
Challenge Three again features the verbs in random order, but this time from English to German, which works a little different in terms of vocab recall
There’s a full alphabetical German-English verb list, which students find really useful as they begin to build and embed their verb vocabulary - we find it useful to have a quick look through the list prior to playing for the first time, and it’s also really good for some additional whole-group pronunciation practice. Each challenge is on a different background, so that they can be easily identified.
To ensure successful learning, play regularly as you work with verbs and vocabulary - against a timer in teams works well to map both improved recall and word recognition, as well as increasing confidence - students genuinely enjoy seeing if they can beat their own time record. Dominoes games work really well in language learning as a free-choice activity - I have folders of resources for students to select their own activity, according to what they feel they would most like to revisit. We have free-choice activity time every few lessons for a half hour or so, which also provides a welcome break from the particular target focus.
There’s definitely prep involved - printing and cutting out. I always laminate my dominoes games, as they’re far more learner-friendly, and they last for absolutely years, so once you’re prepped the set or several sets, you will never have to prep the games again.

VIELEN DANK UND VIEL SPAß BEIM SPIELEN!
My students love to play these dominoes games and find them a lively and interactive alternative to more traditional vocabulary and grammar ‘drilling’ activities. They enjoy being able to work and learn independently, and I give them regular chances during the school year to play. The focus is on 99 high-frequency GERMAN verbs in the infinitive form. There are 3 games, each with a differentiated level of challenge.
CHILLOUT CHALLENGE features the verbs in alphabetical order, GERMAN to English
CHAMPION CHALLENGE features the verbs in topsy-turvy order, GERMAN to English
SUPERCHARGED CHALLENGE features the verbs in topsy-turvy order, ENGLISH to GERMAN - your students will really have to know their GERMAN verbs to complete this sequence in record time!
I’ve included reference sheets of all verbs in both alphabetical and topsy-turvy order for students to use as a learning support resource.
I’ve classed the game as suitable for ages 11-18, because it really does depend on when your students begin GERMAN - the games work well with any appropriate year group, depending on their starting point. There’s a bit of prep - printing and cutting out. I always laminate my dominoes games because they last for years, so laminating is definitely worth the time and effort.

LATIN GRAMMAR LATIN VERBS LATIN VOCABULARY **PERFECT FOR DEVELOPING LATIN LANGUAGE SKILLS AS WELL AS PRACTISING AND REVISING 99 ESSENTIAL LATIN VERBS! **
This set of games and activities featuring 99 high-frequency Latin verbs offers an interactive and communicative alternative to ‘traditional’ vocabulary and grammar drilling activities, and really does help to create a lively and multi-skill language learning environment. The Latin-English alphabetical reference list of all 99 verbs in the infinitive form, with the first person singular conjugated, works well as a learning support resource. The cards are versatile, and can be used for a number of language learning games; I’ve described several games you can play and ways you can use them in the classroom. They’re great for a ready-made quick vocab quiz too! The game card template lets your students put their knowledge of Latin verbs to the test as they create cards for each other - preferably from memory! There are 198 matching Latin and English verb cards - it’s a lot of prep, particularly if you laminate them - but it’s definitely worth the effort, as they last for years, and are very popular with students across the entire school year.
The Reference, Recall and Write workbook has 18 pages, and is best photocopied double-sided, and double-stapled in workbook format for students to work through either in direct class time, or as independent learning at home. I encourage my students to complete the NOTES AND NEXT STEPS TEMPLATE regularly to help them reflect on their learning, and to set progress targets. We also use this to guide and inform whole-group discussion about learning and progress in general, which is also a really useful activity.
There are 3 differentiated recall and write challenges:
Recall Challenge One
Students recall and write all the verbs in English from a Latin prompt - the Latin verbs are in alphabetical order
Recall Challenge Two
Students recall and write all the verbs in English from a Latin prompt, with the verbs appearing in random, rather than alphabetical order
Recall Challenge Three
Students recall and write all the verbs, including the conjugation of the first person singular, in Latin from an English prompt.

FRENCH CHRISTMAS ACTIVITIES - CHRISTMAS IS ON ITS WAY! 99 BEGINNERS FRENCH WORDS & PHRASES, 198 MATCHING FRENCH & ENGLISH VOCAB CARDS WITH A 60-QUESTION MULTI-SKILL QUIZ!
I think students appreciate the chance to try something new in lessons during the run-up to Christmas, and I always have several sets of vocab cards that they can revisit language we learnt earlier in the year - it really is the perfect time to practice and consolidate knowledge. The Christmas theme gets them feeling pretty festive, and they’re more than happy to work independently together, selecting the areas of vocab they feel they’d like to focus on. There are lots of games they enjoy playing, and I’ve described several that are really popular. The quiz works well as a whole-group quiz, but I always give my students a pdf version that they can load on to tablets to play the quiz in small groups if they prefer to do it that way.
The French vocabulary I’ve focused on here is a selection of:
Les salutations
Les jours de la semaine
Les mois de l’année
Les quatre saisons de l’année
Les nombres 0 à 31
Les couleurs
Quelques pays du monde

GCSE GERMAN KS3 GERMAN KS4 GERMAN IMPERFECT TENSE CONJUGATION PRACTICE 25 high-frequency German separable verbs in the imperfect tense, 3 differentiated conjugation challenges, 150 quick conjugations, answer key and verb lists ideal for advanced KS3 German and KS4 German students who are developing their knowledge and understanding of conjugation in German, and working with notion of past tense in German. I do tend to introduce the perfect tense and imperfect tense fairly closely together, as usage of the tenses is not directly equivalent with English for example, particularly in spoken German, and it’s really useful to be able to compare and contrast tenses. The focus is on common separable prefixes such as ab, an, aus, ein, um and zu. Prefixes such as***entlang and entgegen*** are not included in this particular collection of verbs.
The resource has the following structure:
Two alphabetical verb reference lists: German-English and English-German.
Three conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations:
Conjugation Challenge 1: each verb conjugated in German across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English verb conjugation.
Conjugation Challenge 2: gives the infinitive of each verb in German, specifying the target pronoun. Students write the corresponding verb conjugation in German.
Conjugation Challenge 3: students write the corresponding German verb conjugation, and its infinitive, from an English prompt.
Notes and Next Steps sheet, which encourages students to think about how their understanding of German conjugation works, what progress they have made, what their targets for improvement might realistically be, and what they might reasonably do in order to meet those targets. Students also note down any new verbs they discover, which enables them to build up a really sound verb vocabulary bank.

TIMES TABLES MATHS FOR EARLY YEARS PRIMARY MATHS Multiplication tables 1-6 cards, with matching question and answer cards.
I've used these in school and for homeschooling too. Children really enjoy sorting out the cards, on a large table (and often on the floor!) and working independently, either alone, in pairs or in small groups. I always give children a reference mat - it's a great way of ensuring everyone can enjoy the games, and lets them check their answers too. I've numbered the question cards, which helps children track their answer when they're looking at the reference mat.
My Monster Maths cards are a firm favourite (in French and Spanish too!) with young learners - they find the visual aspect really engaging, which is such an important element to helping them engage with the content happily and with confidence. They are ideal for small-group and intervention work.
I always laminate learning cards and reference mats, because they're so much easier to work with - and they last for years! I've uploaded a black and white version too, which can really help to keep costs down.

IDEAL FOR DEVELOPING CONFIDENCE AND PRACTISING LANGUAGE SKILLS IN LATIN!
LATIN ANIMALS GAMES CARDS are perfect for young learners of LATIN. They provide lots of opportunities to learn a range of animals, both masculine and feminine, and really do help to create a lively language learning environment. Children can develop their skills in word recognition and recall, listening and reading in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. They’re a great way of introducing the concept of gender, and of looking at the general absence of determiners in LATIN too. It doesn’t matter if any of the animals don’t feature in your immediate or even longer-term learning plan: the card games encourage children to engage happily and confidently with LATIN and to begin to identify similarities with ENGLISH - encourage children to look for cognates and near-cognates such as DINOSAURUS and ELEPHANTUS for example. The games also help learners begin to work out the meaning of unknown words using linguistic as well as visual clues and prompts. For example, can they recognise CANINE from the LATIN word for dog? They may even know the adjective VULPINE - can they identify this from the noun for fox, VULPES? Along the way, children may even get to know some new animals and enhance their vocabulary in English too!
There are 80 CARDS in total, which include 2 DECKS of 40 CARDS to enable you to vary and differentiate your games:
DECK 1: matching LATIN & ENGLISH cards, with both the picture and the word. The ENGLISH cards have a different frame, with blackline pictures. To keep costs down, simply print all the cards using just black ink.
DECK 2: this pack features word-only cards in LATIN, with a matching set of picture-only cards. This is really useful for a focus on word recognition and recall.
I’ve included a word & picture reference sheet for children to read through before they play. The sheet can be shared between small groups of children, or distributed individually for children to file in their workbooks or learning folders for future reference.
The animals featured are:
- bee
- bird
- cat
- cow
- dinosaur
- dog
- donkey
- elephant
- fish
- fox
- frog
- giraffe
- goose
- horse
- lion

PRIMARY LATIN AND YEAR 7 LATIN Latin animals bingo games: an ideal activity for developing listening, speaking, reading and writing/spelling skills. It’s also really useful for a focus on the general ‘absence’ of article in Latin, as well as gender.
The pack includes 21 non-editable files:

You can also cut out the grids, and place them in a small bowl or similar object on tables. Students select grids randomly from the bowl. Depending on the size of your class, you should have several winners per game! You might prefer to laminate the grids, especially if you are printing in color - students can use wipe-clean pens, and you can recycle the grids many times. Color and B&W.

PRIMARY LATIN FRUITS BINGO LATIN FRUITS BINGO GAMES 100 DIFFERENTIATED BINGO GRIDS AND 40 CALLING CARDS
Bingo games are perfect for language learning, and they’re really easy to differentiate. All my students, regardless of age, find playing the games a great way of consolidating their vocab, and developing their Latin language skills in general - bingo is absolutely perfect for speaking, listening, reading and writing/spelling.
In this set I’ve included 100 differentiated bingo grids and 40 calling cards - 20 in Latin, and 20 in English - I always play with English calling cards too, as I’ve found it’s a really great way of further consolidating vocab - students have to focus carefully on the language ‘switch’! It’s definitely useful to have calling cards, so that you can keep track of what you’re calling out, and it also lets students be the bingo master or mistress too, meaning they can play quite independently.
There are twelve Latin fruits in masculine, feminine, neuter, singular & plural:
the apple
the lemon
the oranges
the peach
the raspberries
the pineapple
the olive
the pear
the bananas
the grapes
the strawberry
the watermelon
I differentiate my bingo games by using picture-only cards, which are great for general vocab consolidation and listening skills. There are 40 9-square grids in total, and there’s a set of color (which I sometimes laminate so that I can just get them out whenever I need to - make sure students have wipe-clean pens on their tables!). I’ve also included the same grids in black and white - simply print these out. I sometimes give out pages with four grids on, and let students choose which order they play the grids in - they have multiple pages - or sometimes, I get the students to cut out the grids, place them in a small bowl or similar on tables and they then randomly choose grids - depending on the size of your class, you will definitely have several winners per game! The grids are designed for all the squares to be crossed off in order to win the game.
I also use word-only grids to help students focus more on their reading skills, so I’ve included 40 Latin word-only 9-square grids, 4 per page (10 pages). The mixed word and picture grids are ideal for additional challenge and differentiated - there are 20 of these.
