A stand alone lesson that takes students through a detailed analysis of the language techniques used in an extract from The Handmaid's Tale with regard to its position as a Dystopian Fiction text. The lesson is fully differentiated with stretch and challenge tasks whilst developing students independence.
This is so much more than a quiz, it asks questions but also answers them in detail, using PEE paragraphs, full explanations and text references. The questions include challenges relating to language, structure and context and conclude with a 'big question' before offering guidance on how to respond to the question (which links to some of the prior questions) and essentially a homework task.
This powerpoint is heavily differentiated using images and bonus questions to support and stretch.
If a student has not 'got' this text, this powerpoint should go a long way to filling gaps. If you find this useful please do leave a review.
If interested in a marking service for the resulting essays please contact me on Twitter @jomarsh1 as this is also available, subject to demand.

This powerpoint is designed for use as a CPD presentation that explores a full range of methods for showing the use of differentiation in classrooms. This presentation is based on pedagogical thinking and uses time efficient but effective ways of varying teaching methods to support students and also make learning enjoyable and challenging.
These resources introduce students to the themes contained in this text, explores the characterisation of Silas Marner and uses some engaging kinaesthetic activities (Human Weaving Machine and Court Room) to capture the imaginations of students who might find studying 19th century fiction more difficult. Chapter 2 is also included here and concentrates predominantly on teaching students 'how to' analyse extracts at GCSE level. If you like this resource please follow me as more resources are being prepared on this text and will be released very soon.
This resource offers a step by step guide to this poem and covers all the detail required by the new GCSE 9-1 specifications. There are slides on context, form, language and structure, interspersed with activities to ensure students enjoy this lesson. This lesson also includes SMSC links which are overtly indicated and an exam style question as a plenary.

Enjoy!! Mwahahahahahahahaha...
This resource is challenging through differentiation and equally supports the middle/lower ability learners. This powerpoint offers a mix of informative slides, with activity slides to ensure that everyone is stretched and engaged. This lesson concludes with a comparative essay title to enable learners to evidence their understanding of the devices at play in this text.

This assembly uses music, interesting facts about New Year, an inclusive ‘hands up’ activity and challenges students to adapt their approach to setting new year’s resolutions and instead aim to be more reflective and make changes all the time to ensure they achieve successes in their education, personal and emotional lives. This assembly draws on facts that traverse a range of cultures and is overtly linked to the SMSC agenda. This would be a perfect assembly to use as a first assembly back in 2020 and will save you thinking/planning time over the festive season.
This resource is fully differentiated, includes assessment with a DIRT task, close textual analysis modelled using PETAL and then supported with prompt questions, a fun wordsearch and some high order thinking tasks. This lesson is engaging, progressive and fun and offers a detailed study of both the language used in this text and the structure within these chapters and of these chapters as part of the whole novel. This resource is part of a collection of resources on this novel, so if you like this be sure to look up my other resources in my TES shop, or follow me @jomarsh1 on Twitter.

This bundle comprises resources across the entire first book in this text, assessments in the style of exam questions, extract analysis, exemplar responses, activities based on language and structure, characterisation of key characters and themes. Lessons are differentiated and encourage independent learning (and hopefully a genuine fascination with literature!).
This resource takes students through extract analysis using the mark scheme (Eduqas) and then blends into a guided full essay response based on the concept of 'Authorial Morality', paralleling the exam structure. Other activities include a character focus on Godfrey and separately Silas and Eppie alongside consideration of structural devices used in this part of the novel.
This resource covers these three interlinked chapters and challenges students to engage with characterisation, links to the motif of sacrifice, characterisation, extract analysis (and exemplar answers), peer assessment and the crafting of the two narrative strands that are linked across these chapters. This is a key resource on this text and will cover at least 4 hours of teaching, if not a little more.
It is available as a single resource, as part of a bundle, or as part of a bespoke bundle.
This resource bundle includes an Assembly based on the Holocaust Memorial Trust theme of ‘the power of words’ and considers both the ethos of the Trust in honouring survivors whilst also focusing on the importance of ‘words’ to ensure discrimination and prejudice are eliminated from our society. This assembly is interactive with a link to a video about the latest recordings of Eva Schloss and offers students some practical ways to get involved with Holocaustian projects post assembly. The assembly is fully scripted and ready to use and is accompanied by a handout about some of the projects mentioned in the assembly for tutors to explore during tutor/PSHE time for potential ongoing individual and whole school involvement.
Suitable for use with both the AQA 2017 specification or the Edexcel 2017 specification, this set of resources takes students through this poem step by step, the collection of resources includes an alphabetised version of the poem, contextual information, challenge activities, language activities and higher order questioning on language, structure and form before providing a stanza by stanza analysis. This is everything you need to teach this poem.
This resource takes students through a range of engaging activities in order to instil a love, understanding and ability to analyse the text, in terms of language, structure and thematic links. This is everything you need to teach Act 2 of this play, activities are designed to be pick and mix if you are tight for time. If taught in full this powerpoint would take between 4-6 hours of teaching.
