French present subjunctive battleship games
Everyone loves a good game of BATTLESHIP, and the French classroom is a better place than any! You can use this classic game format to practice forming the PRESENT SUBJUNCTIVE. This resource includes 45 verbs. There are regular verbs and irregular verbs to practice with. 5 different versions of the game are included.
*There is not an answer key included with this resource due to the number of responses possible. I encourage you to allow your students to use a resource that you choose for them to check your answers. If you’re not sure what to use I can highly recommend verb2verb.com.
This resource includes 5 versions of the game with both black and white and color copies and instructions on how to play.
All battleship games are also sold separately for $3.50 each. Check out my collection of BATAILLE NAVALE games!
Just print out one page of the version you want to use per student. Students place boats (which are squares on the game sheets that they will have darkened with a pencil) on the game board. Students play against each other to try to find and eventually sink their opponent’s boats.
Subject pronouns preceded by QUE are written in the vertical column and infinitives are written in the boxes at the top. To choose a square, the player must say the subject and correct verb form in the present subjunctive using either être or avoir as helping verb.
All of the vocabulary they’ll need is written right on the game sheet and it is all in French. Each game sheet includes two battleship grids and a line separating the two. Students can fold the paper on the line if they want to. One of the grids is for a player to place his boats and the other is to mark and keep track of his opponent.

Enjoy this speaking or writing activity with your advanced French students. List of 32 vocabulary words related to cities and 27 discussion questions. The questions are suitable for upper level and AP French or for high school French immersion. This resource is especially useful for your chapter on cities and urban development.
Tourisme et voyages - Discussions ciblées - French themed conversation questions
Part of our series of “discussions ciblées”. List of 35 vocabulary words related to tourism and travels with 20 thought provoking discussion questions. The questions are suitable for upper level and AP French or for middle and high school French immersion. This resource is especially useful for your chapter on travels and tourism.
I like to print the list of words on one side of a page and the questions on the other side so that students can easily refer to the new vocabulary during their conversations. If you make a two sided copy everything will fit on one page. We now include a page with the vocabulary and no English translation for our Immersion school friends!
Also included is a set of speaking cards for students to use prior to using the discussion cards so that they can become familiar with the theme and many new words. The cards just need to be printed and cut out so that your students can use them in pairs or small groups. Each card says, “Décris le mot suivant en français et ton partenaire le devinera.” The vocabulary word is written both in French and English since many of the words will be new. This exposure to the vocabulary will make the discussion that follows flow easier. Students will still have easy access to the list of words on the other side of the photocopied questions.
Don’t want to print? That’s ok! A PDF with just one card per page is included for easy projecting or for tablets.
Included:
➯ 35 vocabulary words to get ideas for discussion and studying
➯ 20 thought provoking discussion questions
➯ 35 vocabulary speaking cards

Here’s what some teachers have to say about these French conversation cards:
Great addition to my resources. Merci. The students really enjoy using these for our conversation times.
Excellent resource! Many different verb tenses used. I am looking forward to using them later in the year with my french 3 students.
I love these! Thank you so much for putting these together. Printed and put on rings they are a great filler for any time.
Use these cards at the end of the year to bring together all that your upper level students have learned, use them at back to school as a review, or just cut them out and have them ready to go on key rings at any time of the year for quick bell ringer activities or for when you want your students to practice speaking French. You can even use these cards as writing prompts.
Merci beaucoup!
Halloween Game - I have…Who has?
This version includes 24 cards. Depending on class size you could either give each student more than one card or have them play with a partner. I recommend printing out and laminating these cards if possible so that you can use them over and over again.
Here’s how this game works. Once each student has a card (or cards), the one who has the card that says I’ll start the game begins the game. He says, for example, I’ll start the game. I have a pumpkin. Who has a spider? The person who has the card with a spider on it says, I have a spider. Who has a broom? And so the game goes on until the last card is called and that student’s card will say, The game is over. Happy Halloween!
Another idea is to prepare two sets of cards, divide your class into two groups and let each group have a go to see which team can get through the entire deck of cards the fastest. It’s a lot of fun, and though you can play with younger students the older ones love this game just as much.

Here are ten intermediate level French dictations to use with your students. They are a little bit longer than my beginner and beginner + level dictations (see links below). Each dictation is a separate audio file. Answer key and translation provided for each dictation.
Sample:
TITRE : Un joli endroit
TEXTE : Nous aimons notre quartier. On y trouve un parc, une boulangerie et une école
maternelle. Les rues sont toutes nommées en l'honneur de personnes célèbres. La rue
où nous habitons a été nommée en l'honneur d'un homme politique très connu. Mes
parents, eux, habitent une rue qui porte le nom d'un chanteur qui est né dans notre ville.
"Dictation is the transcription of spoken text: one person who is dictating speaks and another who is taking dictation writes down the words as they are spoken. Among speakers of several languages, dictation is used as a test of language skill, similar to spelling bees in the English-speaking world."

Both black and white and color versions are included.
This is a 40 question exercise on the French subjunctive. In this exercise students must indicate whether they should use the subjunctive or the indicative before filling in the blanks with the correct form of the verb in parentheses.

French connector words or linking words help more advanced students make their point and seamlessly transition from one sentence to another. Answer sheet included.
These 30 questions are just right for beginners who need to practice the FUTUR PROCHE, and they are a perfect no prep speaking activity for busy teachers. Each EST-CE QUE question uses the verb ALLER with infinitives. In order to avoid OUI and NON answers, each question also includes an interrogative word which is great practice in helping to remember what they mean and where they're placed in the sentence.
Since all of the questions are asked in the TU form, all of the answers will be in the first person singular. This is so that students can really focus and get used to using these verbs when talking about themselves and when talking to a friend.
Just cut out the 30 cards, punch holes in the spaces provided and attach the stack of cards with a key ring. It would be a great idea to print on card stock and laminate the cards before punching holes and attaching them. Super easy and no prep for years to come. Both black and white and color versions are included as well as a 2 page print out of the questions if you should decide to use them as a quiz or homework assignment.
I am a firm believer that repetition is key in learning a language, and that's why I've created many different versions of these speaking cards. All of the cards ask the same basic questions, but each time in a different tense. My students really appreciate the familiarity of the cards even when learning a new tense.
Want your French students to use their MAISON / HOUSE vocabulary? This NO PREP activity is a fun way to encourage your low intermediate to advanced students to speak more.
This resource is also part of a money saving bundle that you are going to ♡:
La Maison - Vocabulary Speaking Activities 4-PACK: https://www.tes.com/us/teacher-lessons/la-maison-vocabulary-speaking-activities-bundle-11576015
You can use it after learning specific vocabulary for the house or as a fun interactive activity on a day when you want to just focus on speaking and reviewing vocabulary in a different way.
There are 30 questions in all. Most of the questions are in the EST-CE QUE form, and they are asked in the TU form. More than half of the questions begin with an interrogative word encouraging more than OUI and NON responses. Most questions are asked in the present tense, but some are in the passé composé.
Topics used in these cards:
* Different kinds of homes
* Household chores
* Rooms in a house
* Furniture
* Preferences
All cards are visually stimulating and feature a circle to punch out in the upper left corner so that you can print, laminate, cut out, punch holes and hook the cards together with a keyring. Have a look at the thumbnail to see how cute they turn out. Using these cards this way makes it easy to pull them out year after year to use as NO PREP speaking activities.
This is a really fun game to practice with your students who are learning vocabulary about CHEZ LE MÉDECIN, and it involves NO PREP once you've printed and cut out the cards. I've included both a beginner and intermediate version of the game as well as black and white and color versions. The beginner version has the words written out and the intermediate version only shows pictures. Have a look at the thumbnails to see what they look like.
Each version includes 41 cards. Depending on class size you could either give each student more than one card or have them play with a partner. I recommend printing out and laminating these cards if possible so that you can use them over and over again.

Here's how this game works. Once each student has a card (or cards), the one who has the card that says "Je commence" starts the game. He says, for example, Je commence! J'ai une fraise. Qui a une orange? The person who has the card with an orange on it says, J'ai une orange. Qui a du bacon? And so the game goes on until the last card is called and that student's card will say, J'ai fini!
Another idea is to prepare two sets of cards, divide your class into two groups and let each group have a go to see which team can get through the entire deck of cards the fastest. If the vocabulary is completely new you could start out with the beginner deck and as the words become more familiar you could move on to the intermediate level. It's really a lot of fun, and though you can play with younger students the older ones love this game just as much.

There are many ways you can use this set of 83 speaking cards:
➤ Print, laminate, cut out, punch holes and attach on a ring for small groups to ask and answer questions.
➤ Use as a warm-up speaking activity or ice breaker with a conversation partner. As students enter the classroom have them choose 2-3 cards from a box.
➤ Students who finish their work earlier than others can choose a few of the cards and write out their answers including reasons for their preferences.
➤ Use as exit tickets. Give each student a card before the end of class and as they walk out of the room they tell the teacher their answer.
➤ Stations: Put students into groups and divide the cards amongst them. Have groups rotate to a new station as they finish the cards.
➤ Scoot: Put one card on each desk in the classroom. Give each student a response sheet and set a timer to give them just enough time to answer the question. When the timer rings students move on to the next desk and the next question.
