This is a 18 page PPT which is based on the book Hatchet. I created this following reading chapter 4 of the book: just before Brian enters the woods. The class will imagine that they are in the same position as Brian and will write a list of items that they feel will aid survival until rescue comes. They will then discuss animals that they many encounter in the wilderness and the dangers of encountering these animals. Following this, the learners are given a scenario and then will answers 8 scenario based multi-choice questions ( answers and short explanations provided). The aim of the quiz is to determine whether or not they would survive a night in the wilderness! An extension task is provided also at the end of the PPT. a fun classroom activity.

A fun game! When the Teacher says “Go,” the learners fill in the blanks with words that begin with the same letter. When they have finished they will shout “Pride!” Each answer is worth one point!

The first activity is to get learners to use their skimming and scanning skills and to extract information from the book. The second activity is an article writing task. Great for KS2 & KS3.

These can be cut-out and laminated to be used as flashcards for revision. I have also attached 15x blank cards so you can get your students to locate and write down their own key quotes. Pin the crown on the queen! An A3 poster and additional sheets with cut-out crowns. There are three different designs: a queen with a crown, a transparent crown and a queen without a crown. You can print out and play the game with your chosen sheet. Get your learners to cut out a crown each and attach blu-tack to the back. Get them to close their eyes and see if they can correctly stick the crown on the queen! They can close their eyes or wear a blindfold!

Cut out and hide the clues around your building / classroom. The learners should be split in teams of two. They have to locate each clue which will contain an individual letter. Once they have located the clues they have to unscramble the letters which will reveal the name of a piece of school equipment. Separate sheet provided which contains clues and answer.
